Thanks Hopefully they may inspire you in yours!

“No job is too big, no pup is too small… Paw Patrol, to the lookout!” ☎️ 🐕 🚨

A fun play invitation to extend our Paw Patrol interest.
I created ‘phone numbers’ to call each Pup for different rescue missions 😉

This encouraged number recognition, role play and social interaction.
It also provided the opportunity to create
conversations and engage in communication 🙌🏼

Feeling hot, hot, HOT 🥵 Teachers I know that you are trying to get your children to concentrate through their last few lessons of the school year in this heat, as am I… ☀️ So before you put back your classroom drawers after their end of the year clear out, fill them with water 💦 and place them underneath the children’s desks to create your very own school 'spa day' 😂 Children’s feet 👣 have lots of particularly sensitive pulse points that give their bodies an instant cool down when dipped in water 💦… 6 year olds willingly working at their desks, plus some very clean drawers to finish the week. What’s not to love ❤️😂

Connect 4 was a huge hit with my kids today. It’s the first time I’ve tried this review game, and I definitely plan on using it in the future. Here is the way that I would organize it.

•group students in teams
•give them material to review
•for every correct question, they add a post it to the grid
•they can try to connect 4 or block another team
•if the answer it incorrectly, they do not get to put a post it AND they have to redo the problem (kept them from speeding)
•each time they connect 4, their team gets a point

Rainbows on our windowsill 🌈
We made these as part of a measurement lesson in Maths. Students practised using a ruler to measure and cut each strip of coloured paper. We then stapled the ends to form these little rainbows!

Very jealous! And so pleased it goes to 120 and not 100!

We finally got a beautiful, new 120 grid in our playground!! I can’t wait to play so many fun games with all the children starting with counting games, multiplication games, place value games and so many more!

Teachers are those squirrels. Not because we are forgetful, but because we plant and nourish those seeds who grow into our beautiful kids.
Happy 2022 in the classroom

Number lines have multiple uses and students should always be exposed to them in a variety of ways
- 0 starting
- any starting point
- open number lines
- positive and negative integers
- for solving problems
Even this giant ladder number line which started at -34 was a highly engaging way for students to find the difference as a way to understand subtraction.
Students used more than one strategy to convince themselves, a friend and a sceptic of their answer.

Arrays, arrays, arrays!!
They are everywhere around us. A fabulous way for students to build their understanding of multiplication, division, fractions and solve problems. Using arrays in context is the key to building real connections in mathematics.

- How many cookies can we fit on the tray? How many trays of cookies do we need to bake if we want to make 100 cookies? If we sell them at the café, how much will they be each? What is we sell them in trays? How many will fit in the tray?
- Two rows of three eggs is half of two rows of 6 eggs (conceptual knowledge of multiples of three, six and twelve.
- Square numbers
- Sharing that chocolate bar - or finding a way to make it last over several days - if I was to have one row per day - how many days will the chocolate last me?
- Bathroom/kitchen renos - how many tiles do we need to fit the floor of the kitchen? What if we want to extend the size?

All of these connections and more will be covered in my workshop on Thursday 17th February: Building a Culture of Mathematical Thinkers - head to my website to book: https://motivatingallmathslearners.com/professional-learning

🧦 I grew up watching , so it was pretty surreal to be a guest on the show & unpack some foundational mathematical ideas. Genuine understanding & positive mindsets to maths can begin at a very early age! You can watch my segments here: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5KkMZvBpo5BFFpph-KoF8_ao2QSo15ja

👏 👏👏👏👏👏

Provocations✨ It’s a FAQ I receive. I loved this post by & recommend his books often (this graphic by 💕). I hope you all find it helpful! 😘 Jen

“I can….share some of my most loved spaces to locate provocations.

✅Loose parts offer learners an opportunity to construct, story tell, and engage in discourse around what they’re doing/building/creating and their learning. These don’t have to be super beautiful bins of colourful items. Let kids play and follow their imagination.

✅Unsplash is a fantastic website that essentially is an image database but with the most stunning photos you’ll see. I typically search a concept/big idea and see whatever stirs my curiosity from there.

✅National Geographic is an amazing account. Consider [saving] on Instagram some of the most compelling [posts &] accounts you see. Archiving them will allow you to find them and use them later.

✅Using Google Image search but accessing the “Type” feature to search for GIFs is a great technique for animated images to spark curiosity. This is a fav technique and a type of provocation that hooks kids.

✅No matter the age I always consider picture books as provocations for learning. Searching a book database, library, or Amazon could warrant results. I also have a few fav that I have purchased and have at the ready on my shelves.

✅Getting learners outside (whether in an urban or rural setting) and prompting them to notice the concept you’re exploring through a series of questions and having them document their noticing as you go. See where their noticing (and curiosity) takes them!

✅”Who knows something that could spark our curiosity?” I often reflect on this question when it comes to considering who may be a powerful provocation. Whether f2f or virtually, guest voices offer diversity, expertise, and authenticity to the learning.

The power of a provocation surfaces with the questions that are asked, explored, and documented. Curating provocations is one thing, what you do with it is the magic.
