Thames Valley Police rating has dropped. It requires urgent attention to bring it back up to standard.

Speaking at Usdaw Union conference today, I set out Labour's plan to back our retail workers and tackle crime on our high streets.

Shoplifters might get away with it under a weak Tory government, but they won't on my watch.

30/04/2024

I've been talking to MPs across the Thames Valley area about issues in their constituencies, including Matt Rodda, the MP for Reading East

30/04/2024

Smaller communities in Thames Valley are concerned by a lack of visible policing. Labour will recruit 13k Police Officers and PCSOs for neighbourhood policing teams.

30/04/2024

Safer roads are vital for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and other road users. I spoke to the Chair of Reading Council Cycling Forum to learn about what we can do to make roads safer. If elected as your Police and Crime Commissioner I will continue to speak to councils about the safety of local communities in the Thames Valley area.

There has been a 37.5% increase in shoplifting over the last 12 months. It's time for a change. Vote Labour 2 May 2024.

26/04/2024

There have been huge cuts to the community safety partnership, which has effected the way we prevent crime in the Thames Valley area. Vote Labour on 2nd May 2024 so that we can support communities to stop crime.

on 2 May 2024 and elect Thames Valley’s first Labour Police and Crime Commissioner.

Labour has consistently been the challenger in these elections. Thames Valley includes the populations of Reading, Milton Keynes, Slough, Oxford and High Wycombe, as well as the villages and towns that sit between them. A Labour vote won’t be wasted, I can win in Thames Valley and I’m asking you to support me.

This weekend I was knocking on doors, meeting voters and talking about the 2nd May Police and Crime Commissioner election, with Olivia Bailey for Reading West and Mid Berkshire

Only 53% of respondents to the force’s “Trust and Confidence Snapshot Survey” feel Thames Valley Police treats everyone fairly, and only half think police listen to the concerns of local people.

Thames Valley Police urgently need to re-build trust, starting with an overhaul of their vetting and misconduct procedures. I would prioritise victims of crime, creating policies to build confidence in officers. Recruiting more neighbourhood police is also vital, as their numbers have been decimated under the Tory government.

This is the legacy of 12 years of Conservative Police and Crime Commissioners in Thames Valley but change is possible this May.

The report into the murder of Sarah Everard by serving Met Police Officer Wayne Couzens clarifies that better vetting and training are required for UK police. Labour's call to prevent those with a history of domestic abuse and sexual offending from serving as police must be enacted to keep women safe.

I will work with the next Labour government to ensure the measures outlined by Yvette Cooper MP are carried forward in Thames Valley. We will not drag our heels on creating safer justice.

This weekend I’ve knocked on doors in the Micklefield area of High Wycombe to meet voters ahead of May’s election for Police and Crime Commissioner, and the upcoming general election. It’s and in Bucks, which has a Conservative led council, many Conservative MPs and a Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner, there is a real opportunity for positive change.

I've spent some time in Hook Norton, a village in Oxfordshire. I'm determined to prioritise crime in all areas of Thames Valley, rural and urban.
