Keep these 5 C’s of college care packages in mind anytime you send something to your college student: convenience, comfort, connection, creativity and customized.

I love telling parents how often their kids talk about them in class and how much they genuinely miss and love their families. And when they get a care package from home? They are absolutely thrilled.

These 5 C’s are what they really need from you–they’re getting plenty of opportunities to focus on academics and career preparation. But sometimes they neglect themselves and struggle to find a balance.

Right now, a thoughtful Halloween care package can be just what they need.

This is about the point of the semester when I get tired of grading. And I start to lose my patience with students.

I’ve learned that I have to reframe it—usually in the context of gratitude.

So…I’m grateful for a job I love and students I genuinely enjoy. There’s nothing better than watching them improve as writers and speakers, and seeing their confidence grow. I get to be a small part of that.

But it doesn’t happen without grading, good feedback and patience.

Life is full of things we don’t like but can’t change.

Reframe it.

Our classes start tomorrow and we can’t wait to be back! I love walking around campus and feeling the energy of thousands of students starting a new semester.

Getting back into a routine or starting a new one is so important to your success in school. Focus on one area and be consistent—study time, sleep, exercise, time with friends.

This isn’t easy for college students because your schedules aren’t the same every day. But if you’re intentional about routine, you’ll do better in your classes and have a lot more fun!

Be consistent.

Since our boys were little, we’ve stopped at a college or university on every vacation.

It’s an easy way to experience different campuses without the pressure of an official tour. We just park in a guest spot and explore!

Ken worked at both Brevard College and Montreat College earlier in his career, so it’s always fun to go back.

We visited UNC Asheville for the first time. There’s nothing like college in the mountains.

That gorgeous view in the first picture is from a house we rented through Greybeard Rentals and Realty. We love them!
