Marcelite J. Harris - Became the first woman aircraft maintenance officer in 1971. She continued to break barriers for women of color and illustrate the brilliance of women by working on aircraft hydraulics and aerodynamics.

In 1995, she was promoted to Major General and became the highest-ranking Black woman in the Air Force.

Octavia E. Butler - “I was attracted to science fiction because it was so wide open. I was able to do anything and there were no walls to hem you in and there was no human condition that you were stopped from examining.”

Butler was a renowned African American science fiction author. She was a trailblazer in creating a space for black girls to like science fiction and a recipient of a number of prestigious literary awards.
