→ You’ve noticed the scales moving
Gaining or losing weight without changing your diet or exercise routine can be a sign of a hormonal imbalance. Thyroid hormones, insulin, and cortisol play significant roles in regulating weight.

→ You’re unusually irritable
Experiencing sudden mood swings, irritability, or feeling more anxious or depressed than usual? Estrogen, progesterone, and serotonin levels could be fluctuating.

Achieving hormonal balance isn't just about managing stress or getting enough sleep—it also requires nourishing your body with the right nutrients.

Here's why:

☑️ Cofactors in Hormone Synthesis
Nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and amino acids act as cofactors or coenzymes in the synthesis of hormones.

☑️ Building Blocks for Hormones:
Some nutrients serve as building blocks for hormones themselves. For instance, cholesterol is a precursor for steroid hormones like cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Without an adequate supply of cholesterol, the body may struggle to produce sufficient amounts of these hormones.

☑️ Regulation of Hormone Metabolism:
Nutrients play a role in regulating the metabolism and clearance of hormones from the body. For example, antioxidants like vitamin C and selenium help protect against oxidative damage to hormones, while fiber aids in the excretion of excess hormones through the digestive system.

5 ways your teflon pan could be harming your hormones 🫣

1️⃣ Endocrine Disruption: PFAS (a group of synthetic chemicals used in non-stick cookware) have been shown to interfere with the endocrine system by mimicking or blocking the action of natural hormones. They can disrupt hormone signaling pathways, leading to dysregulation of hormonal balance and function.

2️⃣ Thyroid Dysfunction: PFAS exposure has been associated with alterations in thyroid hormone levels and function. Some studies have found that PFAS may decrease thyroid hormone production, disrupt thyroid hormone transport, or interfere with thyroid hormone receptor activity, potentially leading to hypothyroidism or other thyroid disorders.

3️⃣ Reproductive Hormone Disruption: PFAS exposure has been linked to disruptions in reproductive hormone levels and reproductive health outcomes. Animal studies suggest that PFAS exposure may impair fertility, alter s*x hormone levels, and affect reproductive organ development.

4️⃣ Insulin Resistance Some evidence suggests that PFAS exposure may contribute to insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction. Studies have found associations between PFAS exposure and markers of insulin resistance, impaired glucose metabolism, and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.

5️⃣ Obesity and Weight Gain: PFAS exposure has been associated with higher body mass index (BMI), increased waist circumference, and obesity in both children and adults. While the mechanisms underlying this association are not fully understood, PFAS may disrupt metabolic processes involved in energy balance and adipose tissue regulation, contributing to weight gain and obesity.

Efforts to reduce exposure to PFAS through environmental regulations and consumer awareness may help mitigate these potential health risks.

I have a little secret to tell you.

Something that you probably don’t want to hear. 🙃

Healing journeys are rarely linear. It is rare for someone to go from point A ⟹ B without a detour, roadblock, and/or wrong turn.

Those things are all part of the journey. When we realize that, it can help to ease some of the frustration, guilt, and shame that often coincides with those road bumps.

There is no such thing as a linear healing journey, but I believe that with a proper game plan and serious commitment, healing is possible!✨
