We have four scouts participating in the NYLT Pack and Paddle this week. The hot temperatures from last week seem to have cooled off, but there is rain in the forecast to keep up with our tradition of camping in the rain.

This will be a week of learning, canoeing, camping, and fun!
Thanks and cheers to the scouts, leaders, and volunteers that will make this week memorable.

With scouting, youth can gain skills that will carry them through life. Having leaders that promote healthy lifestyles, Merit Badge Counselors to share their knowledge, and Troop Support for adventures can only happen when adults are willing to share their time.

Our scouts started their scouting journey as cubs at Camp Hiawatha !

We send big cheers to young scouts on their path to advancement and fun.

Cub Scout Summer Camp begins today! How many Cub Scouts and adults will be taking their swim tests today?

19/07/2024

There's just nothing better than camping with all your friends!

We are very fortunate to have Camp Hiawatha available to us and all the fun we can have together. It has been a busy week of activities, and we are accomplishing our goals.

Our older scouts will be heading off to National Youth Leadership Training soon, which means we had some Patrol Leaders step into big leadership roles this week. Learning and skill building takes time, but Troop 346 has made some impressive growth.

A hearty scout cheer to all the Leaders, Staff, and Volunteers that have created a safe environment for learning and fun!

The biggest success of Camp week so far is getting FIVE scouts their Astronomy Merit Badge completed after a year. We've had several star watches scheduled and have been thwarted at every turn. UNTIL NOW. The skies cleared, the moon was out, and after waiting and waiting for an opportunity, the last requirement has been completed!

Scouts work towards Merit Badge requirements all year long. Lots are completed at Camp, but any scout can find an interesting Merit Badge and work independently. Some Eagle Required Badges take time logging and documenting, other badges just need the right place and the right weather to cooperate.

Wednesday is the day to work as a troop, complete requirements, earn some rank advancements, and have fun.

The Order of the Arrow has been around longer than Negaunee Troop 346, and yet we are thankful to have a legacy of dedicated scouts that have achieved honors.

Today the Order of the Arrow celebrates its 109th birthday! On this day 109 years ago E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson started a movement that has positively affected many arrowmen.

16/07/2024

What a beautiful day to be in the woods and lake of Camp Hiawatha! The hot day lured in some evening storms to make it exciting, but cooling off was nice.

Our busy day included an early morning swim, tasty meals, Merit Badge Classes, and some service hours. There is always something to do at Camp.

We recently had 9 scouts rank up at our Court of Honor and exploring new lessons at Camp makes learning so much fun.

15/07/2024

Summer Camp is something we look forward to all year long. With an opportunity to learn new skills, gain more merit badges, and hone our cooking talents, we enjoy the excitement and fun of Troop Camping.

Returning to Camp Hiawatha, we get to meet up with area scouts we've met before and meet new friends from troops we haven't met yet.

And did we get wet? Yep. If Troop 346 is camping, the rain will come. But maybe that will be it for the week, and our days ahead will be clear.

08/07/2024

We have enthusiastic scouts that are learning and growing, and this evening we get to award all the merit badges and rank advancements!

Scouts around the Upper Peninsula and Beyond are gearing up for Summer Camp at Camp Hiawatha.

Additional Ecology Staff is needed to create the amazing atmosphere of learning and skill building scouts have come to know and expect.

Our full day at Spring Camporee has come to an end, but what a day it was!

We started early in the morning and are still enjoying our evening festivities, but the learning and challenges have concluded.

Rank advancement, camping nights, new skills, Merit Badge requirements, and delicious food filled our day. We accomplished great things before the threat of rain on the horizon hustled us to our closing ceremony.

Our morning was full of activities, and the weather couldn't have been better for our scouts.

First Aid and Search and Rescue are providing great information and opportunities for our scouts at the Spring Camporee.

Lunch is concluding, and the next segment of adventure is starting. Our scouts are off to learn more and enhance their skills.

The 2024 Spring Camporee at Brasswire Campground started with enthusiasm!

A weekend adventure with over 100 scouters and more than 9 troops from all around the Upper Peninsula have gathered for learning and fun.

Scouts will be working on orienteering, leadership, teamwork, and learning new skills.

We appreciate all the leaders, organizers, volunteers, and scouts for creating a healthy environment for advancement and development.

The Hiawathaland District Spring Camporee starts tonight, and the James Barr Traveling Trophy has arrived.

Scouts from the Upper Peninsula will compete in a weekend of activities that will be scored on Leadership, Participation, Teamwork, and Spirit.

Thanks to all the leaders, volunteers, and scout families that have gathered to allow this exciting event to take place.

Which means we have leaders and volunteers from all over to ensure scouts have a safe weekend of learning.

Scouts will be Camping, Cooking, Orienteering, and learning the Search and Rescue Merit Badge!

We know Scouting is a family commitment.
Traveling to meetings, preparing gear at home, and practicing all the skills in everyday life to make better scouts wouldn't happen without Scout Moms and those who step up.

Happy Mother's Day!

04/05/2024

This weekend our older scouts are working on their Leadership Skills and have a great opportunity to get our camping season underway.
In scouting, we learn best by helping others learn as we share our skills, but sometimes we all learn new skills together.

Today is the Day!

Did we drop a bag for you to fill last week?
We'll be stopping by today after 1:00 pm to see if you have any donations on your porch!

Scouting For Food gives us an opportunity to support our community with your help.

19/04/2024

This Saturday you may see scouts in the community as we start our Annual Scouting For Food event.

We will drop off bags on Saturday, April 20th, to neighborhood porches. Simply take the week to collect some donations and we'll stop by on Saturday, April 27th, to collect any nonperishable donations you place on your porch after 11:00 am.

We have had great success in previous endeavors and hope to help our local pantries restock for the months ahead.

If you're not in an area we are likely to stop by, we encourage you to support our efforts by dropping off some items to your favorite food pantry.

It saddens us when area trails sustain damage or graffiti.
As our spring hiking and biking adventures start up, it is important to have clear trail markings for safe adventures.

We appreciate those community members that have leapt to action to clean and protect the area.

Through scouting, youth learn how to respect property and Leave No Trace while enjoying outdoors activities such as hiking and biking.

Some not nice things. If you see any kids with spray paint and looking like they are not up to good things on the North Trails tonight, please call the Marquette Police Department. If you have kids that left the house with paint or bought paint today, we would love to have them come clean up. We so far know of a couple signs painted by the Cedars and Oxbow, please let us know if you find any other damage. 😞
