Upcoming 3 day sterilization clinic πΎπ
This is what it's all about. This is what we do. This is how we help animals on Nusa Penida.
The MOST important thing that we can do right here, right now is to sterilise as many dogs and cats as possible.
It's a lovely feeling to rescue a dumped puppy or kitten, it changes their life forever but it DOES NOT stop the problem. There is one solution only and that is to sterilise dogs and cats to:
πΆ Lower the overpopulation
π½ Stop dumping of unwanted litters
πΆ Stop the spread of transmissible venereal tumour in dogs
π½ Educating pet owners to be responsible
πΆ Improving overall dog/cat health
π½ Reducing the spread of zooontic diseases
Please consider sponsoring a sterilisation for 350,000 IDR ($35 AUD). Donating through Donorbox is tax deductible for Australians.

We are looking for corporate sponsors to help with sterilization overheads.
Each sterilisation clinic incurs costs. Our vet team and dog catcher comes to Nusa Penida by fastboat. Once here they hire scooters to travel to various locations to perform sterilisations. We like to keep them well fed & hydrated so that they work well. And at night they are accommodated in a local hotel.
We also have a lot of gear that we need to move around like surgery table, dog crates, medicines, consumables, dog catching nets etc so we have to hire a vehicle and driver for this.
Until now, we have absorbed these added costs but we would really like to find a sponsor or two that would be willing to cover these costs.
If you are interested in helping, please contact us to discuss costs. We will be more than willing to give your business a shout out every time we host a sterilization clinic.
Next sterilsation clinic is coming soon.
Please help us to create a positive change for the dogs and cats on Nusa Penida, your support is greatly appreciated ππΌπΎ
Saturday 3rd August the Bali Vet Association put on an event in Nusa Penida which we helped to sponsor.
82 vets came to Penida, they donated their time and skills to sterilize 83 dogs and to administer 158 rabies vaccinations. They worked in 3 locations namely Ped, Batununggul and Batumulapan.
We thank the Vet Association & vet team for their time & effort to help us control the dog population on our island.
Every dog sterilized means less puppies dumped & a healthier dog population, that can only be a good thing right?!
July was a great month for sterilising dogs & cats around Nusa Penida. We visited many villages with our mobile vet clinic.
Sometimes I'm frustrated by what i think are the low number of sterilisations but then i have to remember where we are.
Sometimes we are lucky and we have people lined up wanting to have their pet sterilised, but more often than not we have to go door to door encouraging people to get their pets sterilised. We also dart unsuspecting street dogs, wait for the sedative to kick in and then carry them back to the vet or drive them back on a scooter. It's time consuming and it's hard work in the heat of the day.
But it's totally worth the effort to know that we are working to reduce the population of dogs and cats on the island to a manageable level. It's worth it to know that we have prevented pregnancies, it's worth it to know that we have stopped unwanted litters from being dumped and left to die.
And just look at these young boys in the photo, they were fascinated watching the vet perform surgery. It's the best education that we can give them.
We have so much work to do on the island. If you like what we are doing, please support us by sponsoring a sterilisation for $30 AUD. It makes a world of difference to the lives of animals here.
We are the only registered charity helping animals on Nusa Penida πΎ
As I was driving though the middle of the island to meet the vet at a predetermined location to do some sterilising I stopped on the side of the road to check the map to make sure I was heading in the right direction. There were two buildings, one was a shop that was closed. The other building had a small western breed dog sitting outside, the dog's right eye was a mess, it was distressing to look at, I looked around but didn't see anyone so I had to continue on.
When I met up with the vet he mentioned seeing the dog. We agreed to go back to the location after we had finished sterilising.
When we returned to the dog we found a young boy at the house next door, he called the owner of the dog, she was also the owner of the shop. We asked what happened to the dog's eye and she told us that it had fallen down the steps a few days before and had injured it's eye. I saw the steps and can attest to the fact that they ascended very steeply and each step was very high.
We explained that the dog needed to have it's eye removed, she agreed. We set up our mobile clinic outside her shop and the vet performed the surgery. While we were there locals passed by and when they found out what we were doing they brought their cats and dogs for sterilisation also. We even had a request to sterilize wild monkeys but that's a story for another time.
We primarily run a sterilisation program but when we come across dogs and cats with life threatening injuries, illnesses, skin issues etc we treat them also. We are really happy that we came across this little guy because left unattended he was going to run into real trouble with his health if that eye wasn't removed.
Dog crates are an integral part of our sterilisation days.
Dogs generally arrive on a scooter with no lead or collar. We can keep them safe by putting them in a crate. Nervous dogs also feel more secure in a crate. If they are bitey we can sedate them while they are in the crate.
Post surgery dogs are put back in the crate so that they can wake up in peace. When they wake up they are not thinking straight and feel threatened because they know they are somewhat incapacitated, this causes them to try to get up and move to a safe, quiet place. This can be dangerous when we are working close to a road. If we lose sight of them we cannot monitor their condition. The crate keeps them calm and allows them a safe place to recover while we watch over them.
This is why we need to get another 10 crates. We have a three day sterilisation clinic next week and we would love to have them in time for that. We would appreciate your help so that we can help the dogs.
Each crate costs $53 AUD. Even a $5 donation will help us to get to our goal of $530.

It was great to be out and about all over Penida this weekend helping the vet with sterilising dogs and cats.
It wasn't so great to finish the weekend with a report of a dog lying in a car port in severe pain. Unfortunately the vet had to catch the last boat home so after I found out that the dog was still lying there I felt like I had to take a look because the photo was too distressing to leave the dog there until morning.
When I got there, he was still there crying out in pain. The staff at the mechanic shop on the other side of the small dirt scooter track said that he had been there since yesterday morning. They motioned to me that he couldn't use his back legs. Perhaps he had been lying under a car that then started up and drove off. I had to put him in a box on the back of the scooter, it was the only way to get him home.
He appears to be a very old street dog, he hardly has any teeth left. He's extremely dehydrated and is in pain. We have given him pain relief, water and an infusion to try to help him get rehydrated. He's comfortable for now and knows he's cared for. We will reassess him tomorrow morning. I'm not hopeful that he will walk again but let's see what we can do for him π€πΌ
Our sterilisation program helps to stop unwanted litters from being born, being dumped and ending up as unloved street dogs with no one to look out for them. We really need your support to help the animals here. Please tap on the bio link to see the ways in which you can donate to help them.
THANK YOU! πΎππΌ
TO ALL OF YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE WHO DONATED π©·β€οΈπππππ§‘
Your generosity means that we hit our target which was to raise $1000 AUD. A private donor has agreed to match that sum so now we have $2000 to spend on sterilising dogs & cats. I can't tell you how happy that makes me! Lucky that the vet is coming this weekend, so he will help us to spend some of it right away.
Ruki pictured above is on our list. He is owned by a local family who had him sterilised by someone in their village who is not a vet. Apparently he still has one testicle which was enough to make him chase the ladies and get into a fight which left him with maggots in two head wounds which turned septic. We were asked for help so he's now recuperating with us. Ruki will be sterilised this weekend and we will send him home a few days later.
This is where your hard earned money goes!
We have an island full of puppies and kittens that are dumped daily because they are unwanted.
We have many dogs dying from infected head wounds due to fighting over females on heat.
We have many female dogs that are skinny and in terrible condition because they are trying to feed their continuous litters of puppies.
We have so, so, so many dogs with transmissible venereal tumour TVT which is a transmissible cancer passed on when dogs mate.
100% of your donations will go directly on the cost of sterilising, no overheads, expenses will be taken out.
Once again, our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us and who continues to support us. Together we really can make a positive impact on the lives of dogs and cats on Nusa Penida island.
We need your help!
One of our supporters has promised to match donations up to $1000 AUD π©· for sterilisations. This is fantastic news! That's over 60 πΆπΊ
This means that if we can get people to donate collectively to a total of $1000 we will receive $2000 in total. Your donation matters no matter if it's just $5, it all adds the total!
We have a list of requests for sterilisations and we would love to put on another sterilisation clinic soon. With your help we can.
Please donate to Paypal or Gofundme (tax deductible for Australians).
Please LIKE & SHARE so that we can take them up on their incredible offer.
Let's do it for the dogs of Nusa Penida, this is the only way to stop their suffering.
Can you help us?
We need sponsors for our upcoming sterilisation day.
Ruki, the dog pictured above, is a young male bali dog. He has an owner who lets him roam free like most people do with their dogs here.
Being free roaming he's prone to getting TVT transmissible venereal tumour which left untreated will cause his death. He's also prone to getting wounds caused by fighting over food or females on heat. This is exactly what happened to Ruki. He's one of the lucky ones that is being treated at our care centre. We will sterilise him before he goes home.
Our main focus is to sterilize as many dogs and cats as we can this year. One sterilisation costs $30 AUD. We have a list of customers that are desperate to get their pets sterilised. Our program sterilises animals for free for locals on Penida. Please can you help us so that we can help them and their animals.

Last weekend we were out and about in 4 locations across Nusa Penida sterilising 49 dogs & cats. The vet ran out of time and will be coming back soon to finish at one of the locations and to start in different villages.
We also treated 3 dogs for TVT (transmissible venereal tumour) which is now spreading like wildfire throughout the island.
The ONLY way to help the dog and cat population on the island is to sterilize as many adults as possible. This has always been our focus and will continue to remain so. There is no shortage of animals to sterilize here.
Sterilising dogs:
Reduces the spread of TVT
Stops unwanted litters from being dumped
Improves the health of dog & cats
Reduces the dog population to a manageable level
Reduces animal/human conflict with farmers whose livestock get killed
Reduces injuries when males fight over females on heat

This beautiful girl also has TVT (transmissible venereal tumour). While we were out looking for the male dog with TVT in his nasal cavity we came across a distressed local woman who told us that her dog had a tumour and the local vet said he couldn't help the dog, she was sad because she loves her dog and doesn't want it to die this way. In reality it's likely that she couldn't afford the vet fee and didn't want to tell us that.
So we added this girl to our list and gave her the first dose of chemo, we reckon she should be feeling a lot better already. We will follow up again to see how much the tumour has shrunk already and to see how many more doses she will need before she is cured and can continue her life as before.
Please help us to fund these extra costs on top of sterilising dogs. It costs $25 AUD for a single session chemo treatment and a dog needs anywhere from 2-8 chemo treatments.

We adore puppies BUT we don't like to see them dumped in the middle of nowhere, left to die.
The only way that we can put an end to this practice is to sterilize as many female dogs as possible. And we also need to do some education with regards to responsible pet ownership.
You can help us by sponsoring a sterilisation, we have no shortage of customers out there. We travel the island sterilising dogs & cats for local people that could otherwise not afford to pay for it themselves which leads to puppies & kittens being dumped.
Please help us to continue to make a positive impact on this island. Together we can make a difference to the lives of animals here.
Each sterilisation costs 300,000 IDR / $30 AUD / β¬18 EUR.

$30 is the cost of one sterilisation.
Daily, puppies & kittens are being dumped in various locations around the island. Some are found & rescued while others are found and left to die, while others are never found and die.
Sometimes whole litters are dumped, at other times it's just the females. Females are not valued, they are not wanted & so they get dumped. Sometimes their owners cannot afford to get the female sterilised, sometimes they do not know that it is possible to sterilise them. This is why we offer free sterilisations to locally owned dogs & cats and we also sterilise street dogs too.
Dumping unwanted litters is a cycle that has to stop and the only way to do that is to sterilise as many dogs & cats as possible.
Please be the change that you want to see by sponsoring a sterilisation. We have no shortage of customers for the next upcoming clinic.

It's well known that one unspayed female dog & her mate & their offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies in 6 years. That means we have already prevented 13,266,000 births.
But it's not enough, we are finding puppies & kittens that are being dumped daily. The only way we can prevent this from occurring is through sterilisation & education.
Please consider signing up to Patreon to sponsor a sterilization or two on a monthly basis. Or help us with a one-off donation for our upcoming sterilisation clinic. $30 AUD per sterilisation.
We are the only organisation doing this kind of work on Nusa Penida & we need your help to ease the suffering of animals here.

The last sterilisation day for 2023.
Our main focus was on finding and sterilising a male street dog that had horrific injuries caused by fighting. Hopefully he's feeling better and is on the road to recovery.
We also sterilised street dogs & dogs owned by locals.
Or focus for 2023 was sterilising but we have to admit that we got sidetracked by the number of rescues that turned up at our door. Being the only organisation helping dogs and cats on the island we have no choice but to try to help them all, it's a mammoth task but we do what we can. We ended the year with a rescue tally of 81 puppies, kittens and adult dogs.
Our focus for 2024 is to sterilise more dogs and cats than we did this year, in fact we want to triple it, we have to, it's the only way to improve the lives of animals here.
Sterilisation stops unwanted litters from being dumped
Sterilization stops TVT (transmissible venereal tumour) from spreading
Sterilization reduces the number of street dogs
Sterilization reduces human animal conflict caused by dogs predating on livestock
Sterilisation improves animal health
Sterilization stops suffering

Wishing you all a peaceful 2024 filled with love and happiness. Please remember to keep your four legged friends safe during the fireworks.
We started in August 2017, this is our story...
We found a very sick puppy at the Nusa Penida festival in 2016, he did not seem to be owned by anyone so we felt that we had no choice but to take him home and get veterinary assistance, his name is Batman and he is now second in command. A few months later a stray entered our property with a badly mended broken leg, he did not want to leave, his name is Tiga (Bahasa Indonesia for three because he only walks on three legs), he is the boss! A few months later a pup entered our property and she quickly made friends with the boys and refused to leave, her name is Sweetie. Finally a very young puppy was dumped on our terrace one morning in a box, her name is Midget and sheβs not so small now.
At this point we worried about what would happen if another dog came along, what would we do with it? It was at this point that we started to fund a few sterilisations of female bali dogs in the neighbouring village so as to stem the flow of puppies, it was a purely selfish act to begin with. As funds grew we went out to other villages and offered free sterilisations to locally owned dogs. Everyone we approached took up us on our offer with gratitude.
Since then we have sterilised around a hundred female bali dogs as well as female cats. We also catch, sterilise, release stray female dogs and cats where possible. We also provide emergency vet treatments to dogs and cats in distress. We work alongside local vet Kadek Widada Asmara who was born in Nusa Penida. We also try to re-home abandoned puppies and kittens were possible.
As tourism takes hold of the island we hope to be able to attract more donations which will fund our program. We would like to extend the program to sterilising male bali dogs, to vaccinating all dogs and to educate the local community about what we do in a bid to reduce the numbers of kittens and puppies that are abandoned or dumped annually.
