TENBY LODGE PRESENT CHEQUE TO SURF LIFESAVING CLUB
Members of Tenby Lodge presented a cheque for £600 to Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club after their training session.
Lodge Charity Steward Steve Thurgood said “This donation was part of a major programme of support by the Freemasons of West Wales for hard working charities across the whole area that provide excellent community service voluntarily, particularly to young people.”
The club have been teaching the multi-disciplined sport of lifesaving since 1993, educating participants from ages eight and upwards in surf safety, open water skills and swimming confidence to ensure their safety on the coastline.
Weekly training sessions take place throughout the Summer from its Training Facility and Building based at South Beach Car Park, Tenby. In the cold winter months it runs weekly Pool Sessions at Tenby Leisure Centre, building core swimming skills ready for the Beach Sessions. With its direct links to the RNLI, training and assessment is also provided for those wishing to become Beach Lifeguards, or as first aiders and sports coaches.
They also provide a lifeguard service for local coastal events such as Ironman Wales, Long Course Weekend, Saundersfoot New Year Day Swim and Tenby North Boxing Day Swim. Their stated aim is to save lives and prevent drowning through education and training on Surf Lifesaving in the Local Community.
Tenby Lodge Master David Marshall said “We have a long tradition of supporting local youth projects so were delighted to nominate the Surf Lifesaving Club to receive this donation.”
Club leader Tai Jackson added “We are always in need of new equipment such as boards and life-vests and we are currently looking to install wi-fi at our premises so this money is most welcome and much appreciated.”
If your kids are interested in joining the Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club all enquiries should be sent to [email protected]

Ray Dorset is a Freemason and a member of Chelsea Lodge No. 3098. Dorset can be seen performing "In the Summertime" in the 5-part documentary "Inside the Freemasons," produced by the BBC in 2017.

In 1968, Dorset formed the group Good Earth, which included Colin Earl on keyboards, Dave Hutchins on bass, and Ray Bowerman on drums. They recorded the album It's Hard Rock And All That on the Saga record label, before Hutchins and Bowerman left. Joe Rush joined on washboard and the group adopted a more acoustic-based skiffle style.

In 1970, with further line-up changes, the group became Mungo Jerry with hits to follow such as "In the Summertime". The song took Dorset only ten minutes to compose on a second-hand Fender Stratocaster while he was taking time off work from his regular job, working in a laboratory for Timex.

One song recorded by Mungo Jerry, "Feels Like I'm in Love", was originally written by Dorset for Elvis Presley, who died before the song could be recorded. Nevertheless, in 1979 it was recorded by the Scottish disco singer Kelly Marie, and became a UK Number one in September 1980. This made Dorset one of the first songwriters to top the UK Singles Chart with singles performed by himself, and by another musician.
