I had my second posing lesson with my fabulous coach Jodi Boam IFBB Fitness Pro. The key aspects we focused on this time were: 1) Posing in heels: I borrowed a pair of my coach's shoes because I haven't bought my own pair yet (ignore the ankle socks 😅). 2) Posing for the individual presentation round, both for Bikini and Figure categories. 3) Transitions between poses. Yes, I still look awkward but I'd like to believe I'm getting the hang of it. Also, I've been under the weather for a little while. Although the cold symptoms were mild, the bug completely drained my energy! No amount of sleep felt like it was enough and I've had no appetite. I definitely do not feel my best nor do I think I look my best either. It's now 20 weeks out! My official contest prep begins very soon! I had my very first posing lesson with my wonderful coach @jodiboam this weekend. She taught me the basics of poses in 2 categories: Figure and Bikini. Yes, I look extremely awkward because nothing about these poses feel natural to me hahaha! 😄 The professionals and experienced bodybuilders make them look so effortless! I know I have a lot of physical work and practice ahead of me but not only that, a lot of mental preparation too. If you notice from my previous posts, this is probably the most skin I've ever shown. 😅 In a competition, I realize I'll be showing a lot more! 😨 One thing you won't see on me right now is a chiseled 6-pack. This is because I'm in the "building" stages of my preparation. Yes, I had to get over the fact that I won't be as lean as I have been recently and my pants are getting a bit tight but I'm keeping my focus on the ultimate goal. Several people have asked me what I eat so here's everything I've had over the past 7 days. Thank you to my coach, Jodi Boam IFBB Fitness Pro, for the nutrition plan and for accommodating my specific dietary needs. 🤗 In general: 🍴 I weigh everything to the gram! 🍴 I log everything I eat and drink. 🍴 I drink 3 to 4 litres of water everyday. 🍴 I eat as much organic food as my budget allows. 🍴 I stopped drinking cow's milk years ago and I don't think it's a coincidence that I haven't had any major intestinal or skin problems since. I don't use whey protein either so the protein shakes you see are all vegan. 🍴 Coffee is half decaffeinated most of the time. I sometimes have it with a 1/4 cup of unsweetened, organic non-dairy milk, sometimes black. Never any sugar or sweetener. 🍴 I consume the equivalent of a 1/4 teaspoon of organic turmeric powder everyday and I eat a lot of ginger too. This helps reduce inflammation. 🍴 I also consume 1 scoop of vegegreens, 1 scoop of marine collagen, 5g of organic spirulina powder, 1/2 teaspoon of organic reishi mushroom powder, and 1/8 teaspoon of organic matcha powder daily. This is on top of the supplements I take. 🍴 And as you can see, I do endulge from time to time. 🙂 To be completely transparent, what you are seeing here is a caloric cut. Bodybuilders go on a cut usually before a competition to shed body fat while maintaining muscle. I'm not competing (at least not yet) so the reason why I'm cutting is in preparation for an upcoming trip. I know I'm going to eat a lot of extra calories there 😜 so cutting now will reduce recovery time later. I actually don't mind cutting. Happy National Health and Fitness Day! Where else would I be but my second home, the gym. I do not take for granted my ability to move. In fact I consider it a great blessing and gift. I honour it the best way I can with the lifestyle choices I make.

I accepted a new position at my "day job" so it was with deep regret that I had to give up my BODYPUMP class at GoodLife Fitness Bloor and Bay. What an awesome class! Look at all of these beautiful people! I appreciate the effort you made to come to class each and every time. I know it was challenging to book a slot. I will miss you but this is certainly not goodbye.

Most people only get to see their instructor for the hour they are teaching on stage. What they don't often see are the hours upon hours upon hours of preparation for that class. I decided to share this video clip of me practicing one of the tracks I'll be launching this Tuesday. I've got my earbuds in so you can't hear the music (can't give everything away now, can I?) However, instead of muting the audio, I left it on so you can hear what I'm saying. The sheets of paper in front of me are a combination of choreo notes as well as my scripting notes. I spend just as much time (if not more) on my coaching and cueing as I do learning choreo. I've always done that, even before the pandemic. And yes, I've gotten some strange looks from people who've walked in on me talking to myself. 😁 I want to make sure I land all of the mandatory cues as well as the other layers of coaching too. Obviously I don't say all of the cues verbatim (I'm not a robot). I purposely leave space to be able to coach to the people in front of me as well as for those spontaneous moments. You can see from the video that it's not polished. That's why I practice. Hopefully I'll be ready by Tuesday.

I'm not fortunate enough to own a home gym, fancy equipment or even a set of dumbbells and I've really been missing working out with weights. 🙁 I guess I gotta make do with what I have. You may like to integrate this exercise into your workout too: Single-arm, laundry detergent, coffee table row. 😁 BTW, a 9.24 litre bottle of detergent is exactly 10 kgs. Stay tuned. Here's an easy, time-saving recipe using the slow cooker that I've made a few times now. I found the recipe online but changed it a lot for several reasons: ▪︎I had to change the quantity of the ingredients because the recipe called for a much larger slow cooker. ▪︎I have allergies to some of the ingredients. ▪︎I used boneless skinless chicken breasts instead of bone-in turkey thighs -- although I admit, bone-in thighs would taste much better -- to cut down on saturated fat and to make it easier to portion into even servings. ▪︎There's a sauce that you drizzle on top but I found that I don't need it and I wanted to save time. ▪︎I also reduced the salt to about 1/2 (I find that many recipes online have way too much salt!) So here it is. My Moroccan Chicken Stew Ingredients: •1 tsp allspice •1 tsp sea salt (or Kosher salt) •3 large (or 4 small) boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into large pieces •2 medium carrots peeled and roughly chopped (or use the equivalent of mini carrots if you don't want to peel and chop) •2 cups butternut squash chunks (you can buy them pre-chopped) •1 red onion peeled and roughly chopped •1 can (540 ml) no salt added chick peas •1 can (796 ml) no salt added whole tomatoes •1/2 cup golden raisins •zest of one lemon •2 dried red chilis I prep everything the night before so all I have to do is switch on the slow cooker the next day. 1) Rub the allspice and salt on the chicken (for a richer flavour, you can brown the chicken too but it's not necessary). 2) Put all the ingredients into the slow cooker and give it a gentle stir. 3) Cook on low for 6-7 hrs. Makes 8 servings.
