Built in 1887 and refurbished to its original splendor, this home offers all the character of the late 1800s combined with modern conveniences, large light-filled rooms, and a huge screened back porch!
"I enjoyed my stay at this house. I have stayed at quite a few Victorian Houses and this is among the nicest of them. I believe my experience was heightened by having so many other historic in Eau Claire in the neighborhood to walk around and enjoy viewing. Nice quiet neighborhood with the very lovely Putnam Park to enjoy a stroll through." -Joshua B.
The Old Girl is getting a new A/C system and backup furnace today. The previous unit was a commercial-grade Trane installed in 1972, the oldest running system the installers have come across! The backup furnace is being installed after the Squirrel Incident in February, where the chimney was filled with debris, resulting in the boiler shutting down. Good times!
"The photos don’t do justice to this historic home! The space is immaculately clean, well-maintained and fully stocked with anything that you could need. The hosts are very helpful and responsive. Highly recommend this space for families looking for a spacious place to stay in Eau Claire." - Stefanie S.
"We had the best time staying here. The hosts were unbelievably accommodating for me and my extended family while we stayed here for a family wedding. Gorgeous home, lovely backyard with access to a park, and an overall really positive experience. I’ve stayed at a lot of AirBNBs in the past 3 years, and this was top notch for both service and value. Would LOVE to stay here again. Thanks!!" - Gregory E.
"Katie and Matthew's house (the Demmler House) was beautiful, spacious, and homey at the same time. They were very responsive and easy to work with, and everything in person looked just like it did in the pictures, although the pictures couldn't really do the house justice. The proximity to a park (literally connected through the large backyard), lack of clutter and abundance of open spaces inside and out made it a great place to stay with our small children. We are already talking about planning our next visit!" - Alix K.

"Beautiful, spacious house with a great playground out the back for anyone with kiddos! House was really gorgeous and comfortable - could not have been happier!" - Paul R.
One of my favorite things about this house: the prisms that dance around the walls in early evening.
“My group of 5 met up at this beautiful home for a very fun UWEC alumni weekend. This house was perfect for many reasons: It is very centrally located and everything we wanted to do was either a walk or short drive away. It has 5 spacious bedrooms so we each got our own space and bed. For a beautiful, historic home, it was so comfortable and we didn’t feel like everything was fragile and quirky like many old homes. Checking in and out was very easy and convenient. I hope this place is available for our next friend weekend!” - Cathy and Friends
"We found our stay here very comfortable. Lots of room to enjoy this beautiful house. To sit and relax in a living room from the past that feels like time has forgot is worthy. There is such beauty in the old fashioned detail of the original construction of the house, it was a delightful learning experience in itself. Plenty of windows casting light into the rooms with their wood floors, spacious living & dining room. A special treat is the screened in back porch, from spring thru winter this is a gem to enjoy a meal or just sit and be with nature. The back yard is large for the kids and is adjacent to a park with athletic fields including a skating rink in the winter. We had plenty of storage space for our family . The location is minutes from Eau Claire's business district and yet tucked away in a quiet edge of the neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay and were taken care of very well by our host who was kind, considerate, and helpful. There is a lot more to say about this beautiful property and host but limited space to say it. From the A-Team: Thank you Katie for a wonderful time, we would definitely stay here again in the future." -The Andersons

"Five college friends and I stayed here for three days/two nights to catch up with one another. The house is beautiful and we enjoyed exploring it! There were enough beds for everybody (only two of us shared a room) and the house was toasty for winter. The kitchen is very well appointed with modern appliances and a coffeepot and kettle were included! We stayed in and played board games and watched movies, cooked food and talked. A very peaceful and clean stay." - Danielle

"Perfect and convenient location. Beautiful home. Beds are super comfortable - everyone had a great night’s sleep after laboring tirelessly at a venue for a wedding. Highly recommend! Shoutout to the owners!"
Sharing History
Otto and Lina Demmler were the original owners and builders of the Demmler House, a late Queen Ann style home, in 1887. Otto ran a floral business, growing flowers and seeds in their greenhouses behind the house where Demmler Park is now. At the time, their greenhouses were the largest in the Midwest, containing 6,050 square feet of glass. Otto also ran a retail flower shop in downtown Eau Claire, which was later taken over by their son Walter. The Demmler kids and, subsequently, grandkids owned the house until 1998. The land where the greenhouses once sat was generously donated to the City of Eau Claire by the Demmler Family in 1992. The next family owned it for approximately 17 years and did much of the restoration to bring it back to its original splendor and also received Historic Landmark status despite the modern garage.
Matt and Katie are only the third owners of this beautiful place and are so grateful to have the opportunity. The decision to turn it into a short-term rental came from the wish to share it with others (and not wanting to let it go!). It is a comfortable, easy place to find peace, hang out, enjoy the quiet and the birds, and nature surrounding it.
The house is located in the Historic Third Ward Neighborhood of Eau Claire, six blocks from the University, Water Street, downtown, river bike paths, nature walks in Putnam Park, and the park behind the house is great for the kids, complete with a lighted skating rink in winter.
