Check us out! Mrs. Inwald's class is celebrating 100 days of school by singing one of our favorite folk songs, "Old King Cole." We have learned about 30 songs thus far in music class. Mother goose nursery rhymes are not only fun but great for practicing the manipulating of our voices to go up and down with the melody. We also love to show the quarter note beat on our bodies.

I could state the many music curricular objectives covered in Mrs. Barnes class today. I could share that we learned how to play the handbells and to recognize this instrumental timbre often heard during the month of December. I should tell you that the students are beginning to read music and play their bells on the first beat of each measure. As a teacher I should inform my community that the word "harmony" and the sound of chord progressions have now entered the children's world and will stay in their hearts for a lifetime....but I won't.

For over 300 years the music of this German Baroque composer has needed no words. And if you think that I am being a little too dramatic...listen to the video☺️

It is kind of a rite of passage in music class. Third grade students begin to play hand chimes which causes chords and harmonies to come to life in their developing ears.

Enjoy this arrangement of a classic patriotic tune.
Do you hear how no student is mumbling or screaming? Rather, the musicians are opening their mouths and allowing their voices to resonate.

Beautiful job Mrs. Gallant's Class!

Why is "Rain Rain Go Away" such a popular children's song? Well I am glad you asked! The minor third interval dominating the song is one of the first that children learn to sing in tune. It also consists of the most basic I-V-I chord structure. But wait, there's more! One can wear boots and raincoats to music class, chivalrously hold one's umbrella to keep a friend dry, learn how to play the rainstick, shake one's maraca to the eight note rhythm pattern, try to hold one's part while one's classmates sing a contrasting part, and learn that Papa Smurf is the only smurf that wears a red hat and red pants! WOW! Well Done, Mrs. Hebert's class!

Here's the test. Name the tune that the piano is playing. If you are thinking that it could be one of three different songs than you are beginning to, like Mrs. Walsh's class, understand melodic contour. And if you can hold your part while your friends are singing a different part, than you are a ROCK STAR!

MTV changed everything for performing artists. In the 70s musicians concerned themselves only with where they could record to get the best sound. Then came the 80s and the visual element became a major consideration in the recording. Mrs. Kwas' class requested that they perform their song against a brick instead of a wood wall because it would "sound" way more "cool." What do you think?

Hey Mrs. Stunk's class! Why is the music alphabet different than the English alphabet?

Mrs. William's Class performs an original bilingual arrangement of the French folk song, "Frere Jacques." Note the two ostinatos that create a brilliant three-part harmony. The singing awakes "Brother John" in time to strike the gong for Matines. Fantastic job A-3!
