Made with no brown! That’s purple and green in that gold and brown. I still learn something each time I do this.
It's time for me to start the 20 day tiedye marathon. Do you need a new tiedye? Are you coming to Blue Note and need me to make you a Blue Note Tee? If so, message me with your size and I'll be your Tiedye Atelier! Fluffy's. Where our hands are blue and our hearts are pink!

Found my glasses! By then, I figured out I have not had a prescription review since 2021. No glasses ever really fit because there is a big gap between my uncorrected vision and seeing oncoming vehicles. Its as if my aperture is getting really refined into a narrow depth of field. My sweet Mamow wore red lipstick and teamed up with a blind man to deliver braille books to rural blind people, and teach them to read braille. I guess all of that got 'tractored out' by books on tape, and then audiobooks, by the time she passed on in about 1989. I have gratitude that I don't need fine-tuned vision any more to read so many briefs and docs all the time. It's a fun to sew, quilt, tiedye and garden. Also, I do some cooking. Right now I'm processing a crate of Stilwell berries for cakes, winter oatmeal and trail mix. It's prime time to get another flat for freezing. Being retired is a lot of fun!!!
Buttery Chardonnay awaits you. Brownies await you. Come to TC Gallery in TQ at 6:30 for tunes, poems, conversation and art. I'm asking Scott Aycock what it has been like to host Folk Salad on NPR for 25 years, because that would have been my dream job. Tahlequah Creates, 215 N Muskogee. Tahlequah.
Want to work on Earth Note Underground Stage decorations? Like, a sheer flowey wall of glittering backdrop? Call me. Let's do an art thing for May.
It is quilting day in Fluffyland! Working on a sweet lil antique vintage hand-stitched quilt top with 'football ovals' in shades of raspberry sateen and rust orange velvet. I'll post pics in the comments after a couple of hours.
Saxon's Periwinkle is finished! Here's a pic.
I'm working on a new quilt... pretty different from the quilts I have made in the past. I thought it might be fun to 'Journal' the quilt I am making here at the atelier du Fluff`i. Something like this:
Vintage Raw

In this quilt, I’m challenging our traditional notions about hiding womens’ work. For generations in civilized societies, womens’ work has been supposed to look magical, or as if it happened by magic. I understand the cultural origins of making hard things look easy or hiring a specialist who is an advanced craftswoman to do that which we might not know how to do. “Crude” is a term that is usually not a compliment—unless we understand that the gift of time is an ultimate tribute. Personally, I like crude things. ( I like sleek design and perfected, evolved things also. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.)
Joanna Macy is an insightful writer who was one of the first deep ecology writers of the 1980s. She recognized that humans have an alienated relationship with our authentic full selves by the way we do society. It is possible to find extremely refined 1300-year old muniments of life in America that are awe-inspiringly perfect. We shouldn't write off those civilizations as all being in perfect linear progression from ancient to modern. I think evolution is not an upward arc of refinement, but more like ratcheting paradigm shifts and torquing 3D innovations and adaptations. Jared Diamond talks about some of that sort of thing in "Collapse."
But for now-- this day in early Spring when seeds are speculating about when to stretch out, this quilt is like an intergenerational hug between the skills of the women of the past and us today with our playful quirky individualism. That freedom is like a deep breath of nourishing air and cool dirt meeting warm sunshine.
This quilt in particular first began on an early March day in 2024, and it was in the 60s on that day… getting up to comfy 80s or so. The Bradford Pears, love them or hate them, have popped. My neighbor’s Forsythia hedge (!) was showering forth in VanGogh’s yellows. It was a good day for ideas to unfurl from their tender buds.
This vintage raw-edged quilt top gets its collaboration from a new generation of modern design embellishments. The back measures 64”x82”… a bit shorter and narrower than a Twin Size bed quilt. In that sense, it is the size of a personal quilt, or a bed topper. It is a useful size for chilly winter nights. Some people use them for movie quilts.. interesting enough to leave out for a comfy layer when you watch movies on the sofa. Also good as a car quilt to keep under the seat in case you get stranded or a guest wants to nap during a drive.
This quilt is Summer weight. It has no batting, and gets its weight from the embellishment. The Quilt Back is vintage yardage mostly. It is from, I am guessing 1950s to 1970s. The ovals foursquares are hand-stitched into squares, and those were machine-stitched in strips. I’d like to know how many handstitches have been applied in order to make the FormerTop Backing.
Wherever We Are Cherokee Cabinet Introductions Part 1 Edition It's official: The new Cherokee Nation cabinet has been appointed by the Principal Chief and confirmed by the Tribal Council!
If I ever left home, I would want to go make Mardi Gras floats…
Finished version: Matt's Quilt. This quilt is bespoke. But get on my Spring list and I'll suss-ya-one-right-up sometime between now and Summer. $550 if ordered in January. I am having to raise prices because fabric, batting, edging and time is going up and up. It takes about 2 months from order to delivery. So if you have a Spring upcoming wedding and want to give the most wonderful wedding gift, plan now. If you have a graduate going off to college who needs a dorm quilt made from dad's flannel shirts and mom's gardening apron, and all those high school tees, plan now. If your beloved is pregnant and you need the most exquisite nursery quilt, let's get started! I have time for making one special quilt by Valentine's Day, so let me know if you want that spot.
Get it in Bamboo batting or cotton (I prefer bamboo... sustainable and less likely to have thread issues).
Pick your 5 favorite colors.
Message me for details about ordering.
Mysterious Ethnic Kookaburras are coming thru the Fluffy pipeline, slowly and not without having to be pried-loose from the frailties of trying to do this work in a world devoid of Egyptian long-staple cotton and proper Titanium needles. When emergencies present themselves at a time when time itself is master, Ordinary Girls give up and go make fruitcake. But NOT FLUFFY! Here I am (although you can't see me), powering thru to In Time For Christmas Victory, with too little sleep and kinda woozy from plenty of coffee with pure-dee cocoa powder and oat milk, dreaming of a White Christmas.
Fun special quilts, coming thru the pipeline here in Fluffyville. This dark beauty is a mystery quilt. A sofa quilt for cozing up in front of the TV some chilly winter night. It is spoken-for. And I have all the quilting orders I can do by Christmas. But if you'd like a quilt about January or February, reach me and we'll game ya something very unique and unusual and one of a kind, to keep and use for a lifetime and to pass down to the grand-babes. My quilts run about $550. They have about $350 in materials in them. My effective wage after costs, based on the amount of time in each quilt, is about 40 hours is less than minimum wage. But I can't help it! I have ideas stuck inside me, and being a curious experimental person, I'm compelled to ask "What if?" and then discover the answer. It gives me great joy to make these. Nothing I'd rather be doing!
On Friday December 8th at 6 PM George Fulk will open an exhibition of 13 barn paintings, which are all new and not exhibited before. Come have a look! This to be followed by the famous Joe Baxter and Andrea MacMullin live house concert at 7:00

They're calligraphy with margin illustrations by Santa theirself. (Is that a word now?)

Available for one person or for social bubbles of up to 4 students. This class will be 3 hours or less.
2. Poured Acrylic Canvas: I'll provide everything you need to make 2 poured acrylic canvases, size about 6" square, deep canvas. Poured acrylics are fun. This class will be 2 hours, more or less.
3. Advanced Tie-Dye: Think of it as apprenticing with a master. In this class, you will get hands-on experience with new techniques you've never tried before. Learn how to get dramatic longevity and coverage in every tiedye you do. There is business potential with this class. Depending on the students' knowledge we can do mudme, shibori, swirl, scrunch, bulls-eye, and more. $40 for a 2-hour class, and all the dyes will be prepped for you in advance.

Our Story
As a teen, Kathy Tibbits learned silversmithing from her father and dressmaking from her mother. She has taught courses at Northeastern State University (Tahlequah) and Flaming Rainbow University (Tahlequah and Stilwell), ranging from Environmental Problem-solving to Estate Planning and still is an occasional guest lecturer at NSU. In past years, she owned Fluffy’s Compleat Boutique in Stilwell Oklahoma-- a fiber arts studio and tie-dye store, where she hosted Wednesday Night tie-dye workshops and taught long-arm quilting, and made art quilts and tie-dyes. She has won many quilting awards. One of her assemblage guitars hangs in Hard Rock Hotel. These days, she lives at Lake Tenkiller, making art quilts, upcycled clothing, and tie-dyes. She also works in assemblage, encaustic, wet canvas acrylics and watercolor.
