Last year on this day, 8/8/23, I flew to Lisbon, Portugal to start my Portuguese Camino adventure. I would spend the next two days in Lisbon as a tourist before heading to Porto.

As I reach this time in my life, I read and repeat this every day.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
old age should burn and rave at the close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I walked the Camino walking west each day into the darkness of the day. Daily turning around catching the sunrise when I could. To see the day begin, as I walk to the end of the day. To see something new each day. To say goodbye to the day as it passes overhead.

I walked the Camino with the sunrise on my right each day. Following the day as it passed overhead to show me what's on either side of my day, reminding me to look on all sides of life. To the right, where I am going, to my left and where I came from.

The days will end, but keep walking through the day and do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rate against the dying of the light.

I fight to the end, and dance to the music of the day as I hike. Singing my heart, loud and bright. I will not go gentle into that good night.

Find your path, the day is bright. Walk the way to till the end of the day, fiercely, not blind. but fully awake. Grab the sun as it goes overhead to keep it near and in sight. Do not go gentle into that good night.

I add my brightness, to share the day, to share the fight. I refuse to go gently into that good night.

My Camino Brother Jan Hendrik and I hiked from Germany 🇩🇪into Denmark 🇩🇰 yesterday. It was my first time to hike and visit Denmark. It was a circular trail from the village of Niehuus into Denmark through Krusa and Smedeby and back to Niehuus. We also were able to hike on the German Camino route for a while as we headed back into Niehuus.

I’ve wanted to hike to Mt. Diablo’s summit since I moved here 13 years ago.

Today, my friend Jeff Davidson, and I conquered the summit from Rock Creek Park.

It was a great hike.

Waiting on early bus to Santiago de Compostela airport. Flying to Pamplona to start my next CAMINO FRANCÉS.

Day 8 of our Camino Portuguese. Orbenlle, Spain to Arcade. Our first day in Galicia and we get welcomed with a wet Galician kiss! Rain! Rained most of the day. Made it the seaside town of Arcade. Didn’t realize it was near the ocean until we arrived.

I have officially walked across Spain!

I am taking the train to Porto soon. I had a wonderful two days at Home Hostel Lisbon. Mamma made a great
dinner last night. Yesterday I had a great Pastel de Bachalau, Codfish Cake, famous in Lisbon.

Waiting for my flight to Lisboa. I will be walking the Camino Portuguese this month. It is my fist time to Portugal. Every day will be a new experience.

My daughter and got off the train in St. Jean Pied de Port, France to start our Camino. Day 0. We are excited to start the Camino Frances August 2, 2022.

Does hiking make you happy?

Hiking is one of my favorite activities. I took my new dog, Luna Camina on our first hike together with my friend Suzanne and her dog Layla. This is a great trail overlooking Walnut Creek. Great views with hills that remind me of the Camino Frances route of the Camino de Santiago.
