Few books I've read this winter. All about finnish bands.

I dont necessarily consider myself old but when it comes to Stam1na and Swallow The Sun books it's kinda odd and fun at the same to realise that they are now writing books about bands whose debut albums I've bought when they first came out 20-years ago! And also went to see some of their earliest shows. And there are also some familiar names from my own life on these pages! 😉

Kesä Espalla is a book about finnish rock band Keba and its singer/guitarist Ali Alikoski. It gives a great perspective to finnish rock scene in the 80s and the pressure, anxiety and eventually a burnout the author goes through due to too much shows/work. I really enjoyed the kinda straightforward "journal" writing style the book had.

All recommended!

"Is that a machine gun you got in there?" A bus driver to me on one of my many train/bus trips I've taken recently.

We did three shows with Volucrine to support our new album "ETNA". But because of me living in Lapland and all the shows being in south it feels like I've done a World tour. So I've "slept" few nights on benches in different moving vehicles recently. But I'm not complaining 'cause it was so much fun!

Now few months rest/work and the ETNA tour continues in May!

New album “ETNA” by Volucrine out now! Oh boy, where do I even get started with this one. It’s not the most easiest task to produce and mix an album for the band you play bass for. And have done since 2011 (I’m still 24 the band has just grown a bit). This time we did quite thorough pre-production with even some of the backing vocals in place. Of course things always change when the process goes on but those demos really helped along the way.

This project started back in May 2021 with drum recordings. But don’t worry, this really wasn’t our “Chinese Democracy”. In those sessions we recorded drums for total of 15 songs! The first batch of songs was released in fall 2021 as “Relinquished” EP that contained four re-recorded and arranged songs from our first album to celebrate its 10-year birthday.

The first singles from the ETNA album also came out back in 2022 so we’ve been sitting on this for some time now. But NOW it is out by Inverse Records!

Thank you Jupe Velin for awesome songwriting and guitar playing, Antti Heikkilä for tight guitar work, Jani Aalto for awesome drumming, Jarmo Hienonen for guest solo in “Riptide”. Thank you Deep Noise Studios for awesome drum recording space.

When you produce and mix an album it’s really liberating to outsource mastering. So thank you Miro Kiiski for banging master once again!

Safety first! Tuhto is a bit anxious about New Year's fireworks but luckily all went well.

Big thanks to the customers and all the people I had pleasure to work with in 2023. 2024 will be my fifth year as an entrepreneur! Not an easy path but a rewarding one!

Long time no post! Just too busy making music and twisting k***s! Lately I`ve been lucky to have worked on some diverse material.

Mixed & mastered a single for german pop-punkers Generation Boomer. To be released in a few weeks. More of that stuff also coming. Go give them a follow!

The new Volucrine album ETNA is also finished. That was produced and mixed by me and mastered by MIROMASTERING. The release side of the album is still a bit blurry, but I`ll keep you posted. Three single versions are already out though. I`m sure you know how to find them!

Been also working with some pop-stuff with mr. Michael Piroli.

Also been composing some of my own stuff lately. Different kind songs ranging from heavier stuff to even Pop. Don`t really know an outlet to those yet.

My last weeks at old KyySounds headquarters were filled with recording sessions. Now I've been busy mixing those together. Been tweaking and turning k***s for and .kaihosalo lately. Also finally able to start finishing the mix for album ETNA!

In my line of work it's usually a luxury to have a window in a workspace. Let alone one with a view like this!

Muutoksen tuulia!

Muutan 13.5. ainakin vuodeksi eteenpäin Pohjois-Suomeen. Tarkemmin sanottuna Sallaan. Etänä tehtäviin tuotantoihin, miksauksiin, masterointeihin yms. tämä ei vaikuta mitenkään, vaan hommat jatkuvat kuten ennenkin.

Kouvolassa sijainnut KyySounds “headquarters”, joka on palvellut asiakkaita pienempiä äänityksiä varten kuitenkin sulkeutuu. Pienellä varoitusajalla tulevia lyhyitä äänitysprojekteja en siis tällä hetkellä ota vastaan. Paitsi tietenkin jos satut vaikuttamaan Itä-Lapin alueella, niin mobiilikalusto voi mahdollisesti puksuttaa luoksesi vaikka treenikämpälle äänityksiä tekemään!

Mikäli haluat minut tuottajaksi/äänittäjäksi isompaan EP tai albumi kokonaisuuteen ihan sillä tavalla “vanhanaikaisesti livenä”, kannattaa laittaa hyvissä ajoin viestiä, niin katsotaan mitä keksitään. Suomi on täynnä mahtavia studioita jonne voimme mennä ns. lock-outtina taidetta luomaan!

I`ll be moving to Lappi (northern part of Finland) on May 13. Planning to stay there for at least a year. But for you nothing changes really. For remote production, mixing, mastering etc. it`s business as usual!
