Tis the season to think about next spring!! Bear Paw Maple Syrup Days are coming!! Before you know it the big fat old guy (Santa not Jim Wellens) will be done again for this year, and it will be time to make plans for this year's fun and adventure!!

See how we make maple syrup and have a fun time at Camp. This event is intended for families with Cub Scout aged children (5-11 years old). You don’t have to be a Scout to join us!

BEAR PAW MAPLE SYRUP DAYS APRIL 6 OR APRIL 13, 2024

This Scout age (11–18-year olds) program introduces Scouts to making maple syrup in a hands-on experience. For those that want a better understanding of the processes that go into making maple syrup, we have in depth focused experiences as well.

explore Bear Paw and the greater Mountain area.

Bring your tents, camper, or RV to set up in one of our campsites.
Your Scout and family can participate in our planned weekend activities or
explore the forests in and around Bear Paw.
Some of the activities planned are swimming, boating, BB guns, archery, family camping fun, Saturday Night movie on the waterfront, family games, and much more.

NYLT Traditional Course needs our help!
As you all know, NYLT is an incredible leadership program that is beneficial to our youth and our units.
Unfortunately, the current number of scouts registered for NYLT is low. If they do not get 8 more scouts to register by May 19th, the 2023 Traditional Course will be canceled.

Let’s try to help this not happen! 🤞 (Staff have been preparing, and there are 22 youth registered – all of them will miss out if it gets canceled!)

Here's the ask:
Do you know a scout that has been thinking about registering for NYLT?
Maybe you have a scout attending. Can they reach out to a friend that may want to sign up as well?
Look within your unit. Do you have a scout that is eligible but may not be planning on attending?
Please encourage everyone to get registered as soon as possible (this week!) to help Course continue!

Course Details:
NYLT is at Camp Hiawatha from June 18 - 23, 2023. The cost is $300, which covers a week of hands-on leadership training to help our youth leaders become the leader they want to be. Participants must be at least 13 years old as of June 18, and must hold the rank of First Class.

Join us for a day of fun and learning. Most merit badge classes are expected to take around 6 hours to complete. Some badges may have requirements for Scouts to finish after they leave. This is a one day event, however if troops would like to camp for the weekend sites will be assigned on a first come first served basis. Saturday lunch will be the only meal provided. Dietary restrictions beyond Gluten Free, may need to bring a bag lunch.

Maple Syrup production is in full swing at Bear Paw Scout Camp. Sap is brought in from the trees, pumped from the transportation tank, then run through UV lighting to cut down the bacteria growth until it goes to the evaporator. One more chance to participate in Maple Syrup Days and find out the full maple syrup production process, the STEM involved and loads of fun on April 1, 2023. Maple Syrup Days is an event designed for Scout age youth (5th grade and up). We have three tracks for Scouts to choose from. Those attending should be capable of participating in physical activities and 6th grade science-based principles.
The program starts on Saturday morning with check-in at 8:00 a.m. and a pancake and porkie breakfast featuring real Bear Paw Maple Syrup. Participants will learn about the process of making maple syrup from tree to bottle in both modern and traditional methods. The cost of the weekend program is only $30.00 per person and includes breakfast, lunch, commemorative patch and an 8 oz. bottle of Bear Paw Maple Syrup customized with their name.

He didn’t have the best pan for the job but he reports it did not affect the flavor.
