mayor mike enjoyed a day trip visiting all the monuments in Washington D.C. with his family this week. This Tuesday, January 4th at 7:30 PM he will be sworn in for his 6th term as Mayor of Brooklyn Heights. Wishing everyone a safe and healthy new year!

mayor mike will always go above and beyond to get things done for the residents and the Village of Brooklyn Heights. He has worked together with residents and countless organizations on the Deny the Permit: Enough is Enough initiative in an effort to prevent a new landfill in our village. From mailing out communication to residents and collecting petitions, to speaking to the media and at zoom and in-person board meetings-he didn't just stop there. He worked with all of his contacts he's developed and maintained over the years to go a step further by getting a bat/ecological study done, the County Planning Commission wrote letters in protest about the tree canopy and the ecosystem, and then he used an idea from West Creek to use a drone video to give the full view of the landfill. mayor mike rode in a police car with the drone operator ontop of the landfills and through the village to help bring the message home in the video first-hand. There has never been a permit denied in the state of Ohio and we are in uncharted waters, together. mayor mike will always work with you, alongside you-to do what's best for the residents and the Village of Brooklyn Heights. Halloween is just around the corner...but in case you didn't know, mayor mike has been "Rick the Click the Seat Belt Clown" at the Greater Cleveland Safety Council Day at the zoo for over 33 years. He is currently the Vice President of the Greater Cleveland Safety Council, member for 36 years. mayor mike also lobbied for mandatory seat belt laws starting in 1985. (And yes, he even does the makeup himself!) 🤡

A fun trip down memory lane when mayor mike met actress Jennifer Garner while she was filming a movie right here in Brooklyn Heights! Brooklyn Heights had a sound stage in a building owned by Ray Fogg on Valley Belt. Jennifer and Kevin Costner both had rv trailers parked there while they filmed the movie "Draft Day." We were one of the first film locations selected after the Cleveland Film Commission was able to use state tax credits to attract Hollywood to Ohio.

"Wensco Cleveland moved into Brooklyn Heights 6/2/20 and their business has grown tremendously in their 1st year in BH. Another new business Stoveguard moved into the old Leff Electric building on 3/15/21. I reached out to Stoveguard as Wensco needed extra parking for vendors during their recent Open House event. Stoveguard was a great business neighbor and welcomed 20-30 vehicles to park in their lots. Another example of how we treat our business residents as if they lived here. George Murray FOP Lodge #67 held their annual reverse raffle earlier this month that mayor mike attended as in years past, along with some of the officers in attendance. mayor mike finished the 1 mile walk yesterday, backwards ofcourse for some added fun at the 8th Annual Brooklyn Heights On the Run 5k and 1 mile walk yesterday. There was a large turnout, exceeding the number of participants from the last race. Thank you to the Police, Fire and Service Departments for preparations/help for this event, all the other sponsors, volunteers and especially Dawn Casey for chairing the event. It was a great time for all!

Tomorrow is the 8th Annual Brooklyn Heights On the Run 5k and 1 mile walk. Proceeds from the race go to the Park Board which funds the Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Stockings & Santa visit, summer concerts in the park, Family Fun Day and more. As always, thank you to the dedicated volunteers and everyone who has signed up to participate! Reminder that Schaaf Road will be closed from 8:30-10 AM tomorrow for the race.

Council's legislative duty is to set the budget, approve expenditures and adopt ordinances. My job is to operate efficiently within that budget with our department heads and employees. We have NEVER been over budget since I've been your mayor. Due to the result of my endless work on Economic Development over the past 5 years, we have INCREASED our municipal income by an ADDITIONAL 1.2 million dollars. Since I was first elected, we have received over 7 million dollars in grant money, to stretch our tax dollars even more for road repairs, new vehicles and EMS.

Last Wednesday, Cuyahoga County Mayors and City Managers Association met with Owner Paul Dolan, County Executive Armond Budish and Cleveland Indians/Guardians Executives to learn more about the 202 million dollar investment in the public owned stadium. mayor mike is the immediate past President of the Association. He's pictured 5th from the left, or as he says "I'm the short guy near the middle, lol."

"Thank you again to the Park Board, countless volunteers including youth volunteers, NOPEC, residents who sponsored this event through monetary donations, the Fire, Police, Service, and Community Service Departments for making Family Fun Day such a great 1st event! And thank you to all of you who were able to attend for some delicious food, bounce houses, games, face painting, a balloon artist, live music by The Diamond Project and most importantly-time well spent with family, neighbors, and friends. CHS Boys Varsity Soccer has only 1 home game and 2 away left for the season. mayor mike has enjoyed attending the games to cheer on the team wherever they play and also giving a helping hand to Alice Tyna in the concession stand at half-time for home games. Alice has dedicated so much of her time over the years to the CHS Athletic Boosters and the concession stand for various sports and she is always looking for volunteers!

A little rain didn't stop the good times at the Cuyahoga Heights Annual Corn Roast last night! mayor mike enjoyed talking with many of you from the CHS school district communities including residents from Brooklyn Heights as well as those from Cuyahoga Heights and Valley View. He enjoyed having a little fun with a few of his grandkids too! Thank you Cuyahoga Heights, Mayor Jack Bacci and all of the dedicated volunteers for putting on this great family event!
