Hi. So I'm trying a bunch of new things. And what I mean by that is I've decided to somewhat radically abandon my pursuit of perfection and just try to go with the flow (much less stressful!). I am getting ready to release a trilogy of songs to share how an artist like me uses his art to work through the grieving process.

This can be at times quite overwhelming when you are mixing and producing songs that are mentally exhausting given the topic. One of the ways I cope and metaphorically splash cold water on my brain (maybe luke warm is better?) is to work on new songs. This song "Superstar" was born in a quaint country house about 1 hour north of Bogotá in a city called Tabio.

A few chords that stuck in my brain and then once I was back in the bay, the lyrics came knocking on my door:

Song: (song struts up to my door) "Knock knock"
me: (cautiously opening the door) 🙄 (did they seriously just say 'knock knock?' "Ok, I'll bite, who's there?"
Song: "Got some lyrics for ya pal"
me: "Oh, uh, cool, like just a verse or chorus or the whole thing?"
Song: "You know that thing when psychics are channeling a spirit?"
me: "Oh yeah, and they can't give the exact name or word?"
Song: "uh huh"
me: "Oh, so it's like that?"
Song: "Here ya go, buh-bye!" (hastily walks away and hops into waiting cab)
me: "...bye"

This is the song that revealed itself to me and I wanted to share it with you. Alas, I present, "Superstar" live without a net from our kitchen to yours.

Hola. Estoy probando muchas cosas nuevas. Lo que quiero decir es que he abandonado radicalmente la búsqueda de la perfección y ahora estoy intentando dejar que las cosas fluyen (menos estresante!). Estoy preparando una trilogía de canciones para compartir el proceso de cómo un artista trabaja con su arte para navegar el proceso del duelo.

Esto puede ser un proceso que deja uno estar muy abrumado. Mezclando y produciendo canciones es difícil, pero cuando el sujeto de las canciones es algo que te afecta...aveces uno necesito un descanso. Una de las formas en que lo manejo y metafóricamente echar agua fría en mi cerebro (mejor agua tibia no?) es trabajar canciones nuevas. Esta canción "Superstar" se nació en una finca en Tabio. Me llegaron unos acordes pegajosos y cuando regresé a San Francisco, las letras llegaron a tocar mi puertica:

Canción: (caminando rápido a mi puerta) “Toc toc!”
Yo: (abriendo suavemente la puerta) (en serio, dijeron ‘toc toc?’) “Bueno…contesto, quién está?”
Canción: “mano te tengo una letricas”
Yo: “Ah, chévere mano, que cosa? Estribillo? Coro? O la canción completa?”
Canción: “Jeje…mano sabes lo que pasa cuando una psíquica esta comunicando con alguién?”
Yo: “achiss, y no pueden recibir el mensaje completo del otro lado?”
Canción: “Sip.”
Yo: “Que joda mano”
Canción: “Aqui te la dejo mano, hablamos pues, juicioso mano!”
Yo: “Jue pucha…”
