Isn't it interesting how seeing photos of ourselves can change our perception of how we feel about ourselves and potentially derailing our efforts in the gym. Feeling like we're making big changes, we can see the changes finally happening.
The hard work is paying off and then we see the photos...
It's an unflattering angle. The clothes seem like the wrong choice, accentuating our perceived flaws. We then pick ourselves apart, tearing into every little detail! And start the negative self-talk and become a critic from hell!
What just happened?
There are a few things at play:
1. We've been taught subconsciously to compare ourselves to others. Through magazines, tv, socials, and our peers and family.
2. Be objective.
Once the emotions settle, look back at the photo and objectively find the positives first! Set the frame. Then, you'll be able to use a critical mind to make decisions as to what needs to change to progress forward.
3. We judge ourselves harsher than others so that we, in turn, expect others to judge as harshly and reduce the emotional trauma that may follow. And it's sh*t that we even have to worry what other people think.
3. It's a photo, a moment captured in time. It doesn't identify you as a person.
Some tips to help:
1. Don't take it personally! It may seem counter-intuitive and ridiculous to even think, and if you can become confident in who you are, opinions (including your own, which hold the most power) will start changing. Water off a ducks back.
2. Self-Worthiness and self-love are big factors! Learning how to love and appreciate yourself is life changing. As you start the journey, you'll begin realise that it doesn't matter how you look, peoples views are their own and what they say is their projection of everything they don't like about themselves.
3. The most important one is to just have fun and find the positives in all things. Life is the meaning we give it.
Remember, it's about the journey...
Journeys have their ups and downs...
Persevere! 🔥
You got this!!
Growth is all about the journey to the destination!
Not the destination itself.
If we reach our desired place/state/position, then we get comfortable, don't we?
We say, "Yep, I'm here now, I can relax" right?
What happens to our growth if we get comfortable? Chances are it dimishes, and we fall into a stuck state.
COMPLACENCY.. the place where dreams go to die🧟♂️
1% growth each day, whatever it is you're doing, 1% is all you need to continue to grow, and you'll get your dopamine rush more frequently, resulting in continual drive to do more! Growth, my friends🔥
..and for all the people who need their Dopamine fix. Dopamine is actually released before the reward or completion.
They body releases the neuro-transmitter during the anticipation of the reward...
