The more we can bring oxygen to our cells, cerebral blood flow to the brain, the happier our mind AND the stronger our body.

The reason behind the reason.
While a lot of the women I work with come to me because they want to 'get stronger', find their fitness again, get their mojo back, move more and have more ease in their mind and body, get out of pain and stop having stiff joints and constantly feeling overwhelmed - the REASON behind those reasons is one simple one.
To be HAPPY.
Happiness always sounds a bit hippyish or vague but we know it when we feel it.
It's not magical thinking that everything should be positive all the time either.
It's HAPPY to know and feel that we are in a good place of health both now and in the years ahead.
It's HAPPY to experience how it feels to move in ways we thought weren't available to us any more.
It's HAPPY to know and feel that our fitness is available to us and provides more autonomy in our lives.
It's HAPPY to know that we can handle the stresses of life and bounce back.
HAPPY equals less FEAR.
And fear reduces our capacity for critical thinking which makes it hard to know where we're at, what we should expect, what to do next and then implementing the right actions with support and accountability consistently.

Just casually creating something very very cool! I'm excited...
FATIGUE: your body's 'Do Not Disturb' sign.
Most people will have had some experience of fatugue. It's that feeling beyond tired.
It's tired squared with no possibility of willpower shifting you out of it.
You don't have the energy and can't summon it a did you somehow do, you pay the price even more.
During the past 2 months while recovering from Ramsey Hunt Syndrome I had fatigue.
I slept for 8-10 hours a night and 2 hours solid in the afternoon and sometimes a little mid morning nap too.
I wasn't 'oversleeping' and tired as a result.
MY BODY WAS BUSY HEALING!!!!
It was rebuilding damage done to my cranial nerves.
It was fighting a virus and bronchitis.
I was not being lazy or useless.
MY BODY WAS BUSY!!!!!!
An immune system working 24 hour shifts. THANK YOU BODY!
And the signals and symptoms of fatigue were communicated very clearly.
DO NOT DISTURB!
After a full nights sleep I had some energy in the morning and could do little things - get dressed, short dog walk, make breakfast, write a few messages and then ...
'DO NOT DISTURB'
My energy quota had been used and my body's heirarchy of needs was pulling rank - that's what our body's intelligence does - and was back to the more important work of HEALING.
It was an unusual and extreme set of circumstances for me and yet a lot of people deal with fatigue on some level on a regular basis.
We are an 'energy in energy out' system. Yes we can do things that CREATE MORE ENERGY - how we breathe, move, what we eat and how we think - and there's also a finite limits on that.
And what demands we and life places on us or we choose to do.
The first place to start is 1. if you're sick or injured, dont get in the way and please respect the 'Do not disturb' sign.
If you want your healing journey to be longer and slower then knock yourself out and keep pushing through, pretend you're fine, keep people pleasing and draining your energy and open yourself to more unknown consequences of not dealing with it properly when given the chance.
2. Understand that every cell in your body needs 2 things - oxygen and glucose. How you breathe and what you eat and when matter.
3. Your body always wants to heal and is always communicating.
Learn your body's language and respect the process.
We all want to feel better yesterday rather than go through a process where our body is helaing or recalibrating once it gets what it needs.
FATIGUE is not weakness, it's a communication for us to interpret and perhaps approach things a little differently or that you need to pay attention to something you weren't.
Strong Resting brings sustainable gains!
Navigating grief, bereavement or being close to someone at the end of life is really hard.
A lot of the time we don't know what to say.
I am so grateful to know and have 2 incredible friends who are end of life coaches, Rhonda Walsh LoPresti & Lori Krause . They are experienced guides in exactly that and have helped me both find the words and also new unexpected perspectives.
Culturally we lack a vocabulary around death and dying and simply spending time with them has helped, supported and informed me on how to navigate those times and discover ways of being and words so that I havnt felt stuck, scared to say 'the wrong thing' and judged myself harshly or not shown up or called from not knowing what to say and avoiding the 'difficult' moments.
They are hosting a 3 hour workshop on Saturday June 15th, 9am-12.30pm PST on 'THOUGHTFUL TALK - difficult discussions around death and dying'.
They are incredible and the work they do can benefit us all.
What will you do today that your future self will thank you for?
- and that feels really good today as well....
Everyday we get to make 1000s of what may seem inconsequential choices.
What to wear, eat, where to go, how to respond in a conversation, who or what to say yes to, to work, play, research, learn, to do nothing, to watch one more episode, to cook, to walk or drive.
And they all matter when we zoom out and see how frequently and consistently we do the same tiny things all the time.
Everyday we get to choose.
No matter how small the choice.
Is the bank account of your life in all of it's wonderful ways being depleted or benefitting from compound interest?
Are we putting in and investing in quality assets, good energy, acts of joy, connection and meaning?
Or going fast, cheap, convenient and hoping for the best?
Overdrawn, low energy, poor mental and physical health and feeling unhappy with ourselves and really annoyed by people who seem to be doing well.
There's always a price, it just varies if it'll come sooner or later.
The cost of eating fast food looks a lot more expensive when you've got gut health issues, a waist that's become a barrel, poor metabolic health and riddled with inflammation.
The cost and effort of moving instead of staying chair shaped and going from sofa to car to bed to chair to car to sofa when your joints are stiff and the choices to move are getting less and less.
When you stay looking after the bags becuase you're actually worried you'll slow everyone down and you dont want anyone to see how deconditioned you've become.
Whatever choices you make know that they are YOUR choices.
Radical responsibility is a key component to the tiny choices.
And know and expect that it's hard to make changes that last which is why for most people starting small and sustainable is what works over time.
Notice the choices and stop doing life on auto-pilot.
Notice if you're mouth breathing or can nasal breathe when you're resting, walking or active.
Notice if you're always taking the 'easy' path of least resistance and are grumpy a lot.
Notice when you feel good!!!
Notice how you feel when you implement a better tiny choice.
Notice if you eat more or less when you're alone or in company.
Notice things and know that you can make choices that are going to be good, better or best for you. It doesn't have to be extreme.
Whatever happened yesterday is gone, reste today - good, better, best. You choose!!!
Will you go outside to play today?
If you are Under Resting you are OVER TRAINING>
Here's the thing - if you don't have the right kind of Strong Resting in place your Strong Training wont get you what you want.
You'll be in constant loop of tired and breaking your body down.
Oh and you CAN NOT EXERCISE OUT A POOR DIET!!!!!
Life would be so much simpler but it's not how our physiology works and how our organs and hormones respond to poor nutrition, toxic chemicals and ultra processed products.
If you don't have the rebuild and repair ingredients on the plate - your training wont yield results...
If you don't have a nervous system that's in rest and digest to produce the digestive enzymes to ABSORB THE NUTRIENTS FROM THE FOOD ON THE PLATE, your training wont give you the results you want and deserve.
There are SO MANY elements that all link together to help you get the results you want, but if you don't have the majority of them consistently in place you will stay in the tired, training hard, injured, feeling flat and poor sleep mode and staying frustrated camp.
That's not a fun camp to hang out in.

This is probably why 90% of the yoga teachers I've worked with have dysfunctional breathing patterns...
It's very humbling to be introduced to the idea that what they thought was 'the thing they're good at' isn't actually what they thought it was.
Yogis have a special relationship with breathing and a LOT of them seem to get VERY UPSET if you even SUGGEST there maybe something for them to look at with their breathwork.
This is MY experience so far.
I've had somewhat abusive messages from them, it's revealing.
UNLEARNING is a LOT harder than learning.
Our brain LOVES doing same same, regardless of whether it's healthy or good for us. It's an evolved energy efficiency strategy.
BUT we can rewire and do things differently and it takes
REPETITION
REPETITION
REPETITION
So dont expect results overnight!
Consistency is a game changer.
We breathe over 20000 times during the day.
And that's why when it comes to how we breathe we want to integrate a little often, really often.
Regardless of how you're breathing in your yoga class, how you're breathing in ALL the hours of the day in ALL of your other activities, when you're sleeping will influence you more.
I want to help people find ways to assess and then improve their energy, sleep, movement, memory, cognitive function, nervous system regulation, performance, recovery, metabolism, fat loss, blood pressure, all the the things that create and influence our day to day experience of doing life with vitality and health.
If I upset a few downward dog fans along the way so be it.
Breathwork is REALLY HONEST!
Your BOLT score is a simple assessment of where you're at.
Don't blame the messenger.

What if the simplest things became your most important things?
What would it feel like to wake up calm, refreshed and a body that feels at ease even after training yesterday?
What would it feel like to ignore annoying htings, comments and people and not give them your time and energy?

You'll never know unless you make 'simple' the most important!
This is how important 2 out of the three 'simple' things wiht a lot of 'depends' added in invisible ink :) :
Breath hold record (without taking in additional oxygen first) - 12 minutes.
The body can go without water for anything from 3-10 days before shutting down.
And how much attention are you giving to these 2 necessary functions?
How you breathe and are you hydrated?
Yes we are breathing all the time but if you are "OVERBREATHING" you are not giving yourself the gift of balancing your hormones, digesting your food, sleeping well through the night, increasing your healthspan, lowering your blood pressure and being able to keep clam and carry on!
I dont teach people how to breathe in their yoga class or when they are singing or lifting weights.
I coach people how to breathe well and better in their everyday life because that's where we spend most of our time.
How to regulate their nervous system so they are set up for success mentally and physically in everything they do.
The results my clients are getting are the most beautiful things to witness and experience.
They sleep through the night.
Have more energy and less anxiety.
Become better communicators and listeners.
Improve their athletic performance and recovery times.
Stop focussing on the 'hacks' the powders and supplements when the foundations of your health are off.
