Elaine Nutter Art
My landscape oil paintings express peace and tranquility while evoking memories of time and place th
This painting is currently in progress on the easel.
I am calling this oil painting "Uplifted ". The setting is the Olson homestead of Christina's World fame. Instead of looking up the hill toward the house it is looking toward the water. Instead of Christina, who couldn't walk, these children move freely and joyfully. Even the clouds are uplifted from the winds above. My family has deep roots in Cushing, Maine, the location of the Olson House and Christina was a distant cousin of mine
My latest oil painting is close to done.
A fake account using my artwork and the name Elaine N. is sending out friend requests. Don't fall for it!
My latest oil painting called "Healing Place. "
"Haying in Broad Cove " painting is done, at least for now! 16 by 20 inch oil on canvas.
This painting is getting close to done. I am calling it "Haying in Broad Cove " and it depicts a scene that used to be common generations ago. The location is a field in Maine that used to be part of a farm that once belonged to my husband's family. 16 by 20 inch oil on canvas.
This is the underpainting for my next painting,. The subject is a look back in time and will be called Haying in Broad Cove. I have changed my usual toned ground to Van d**e brown to reflect a traditional look and the intended earthiness of the finished painting.
Been working on this painting today.
This painting, which I am calling "Ode to Cushing " is getting close to done. It is a larger version of a painting I did earlier. Many generations of my family lived in Cushing, Maine, and the inspiration for this painting was a visit to Robinson Yard where many are buried. I use transparent and semi-transparent layers of oil paint, so it takes awhile to see if I am getting the effect I want. I will be able to tell in a few days if it needs more work.
I worked a bit more on this 16 by 20 inch oil painting I did awhile ago. It is painted from a photograph I took on Monhegan years ago. I changed the horizon line and added more motion to the water.
My latest oil painting called "Generations".
This oil painting, called "Walking to the River ", is close to done. I wanted to capture light spreading up the river from the right, and trees that appear to be walking toward the light and water.
Some of my latest oil paintings drying. Some people have asked if I work with a gallery. I did work with a small gallery where I live a few years ago, but have found more success selling directly from Facebook. If you see a particular painting which interests you, just send a message and I will send you details. To give you an idea, my paintings go from $150 to $500 US, depending upon size and my cost of shipping, which is included in the price anywhere in the continental USA. I do not deal in NFTs. My goal is to put original art directly into the hands of an appreciative viewer.
I finished the touch-ups of this latest painting.
This is the latest painting on the easel. I thought the trees looked like they are waiting for the light, thus the possible name of "Silent Witness. " 9 by 12 inch oil on canvas board.
I went back to this painting, called "Abiding Rocks" this morning to make a few changes to the rocks. I softened some of the lines of the midground rocks and sharpened the foreground rocks to try to bring them forward. It is 16 by 20 inches oil on canvas. The idea of Abiding is one that I keep coming back to in my art.
I am calling this oil painting "Peace Tree. " The Eastern White Pine is a symbol of putting aside our differences and coming together for peace in some cultures, as well as one of the symbols of the state of Maine. This tree is anchored by an "abiding rock " and overlooks the bay and three balsam trees in the distant. The paint is still wet, so the richness of color is lost a bit in the glare.
Start of my next painting. That is a white pine by the rock. I will add branches and boughs after the sky dries a bit. Still keeping with a limited palette.
Small quick study I am thinking of as "Abiding Rock." Need to decide if I will take it to a larger canvas and spend more time with it. Still experimenting with a more limited palette.
Another painting of Otter Cliffs, on a smaller scale and in a different light.
This 9 by 12 inch oil painting of Otter Cliffs in Acadia, Maine is close to done. Perhaps just a few touch-ups after I look at it for awhile. I am continuing a series using a limited palette to convey a peaceful harmony.
My next painting is "hatching. "
Framed and headed to a new home soon.
Latest painting on my easel. 16 by 20 inch oil on canvas. I used a limited palette to try for a harmonious effect to capture the peace of the subject.
