We have some amazing Latinx artists here in Iowa! Today we're featuring Ana Mendieta, a Cuban-American artist who moved to the U.S. in 1961 under Operation Pedro Pan. Mendieta earned a BA in art and an MA in painting from the University of Iowa and built a career as a performance artist, sculptor, painter, photographer, and video artist until she passed away in 1985. Mendieta is best known for her "earth-body works", which center on themes of the female body, death, cultural displacement, and transformation.

We are very excited to announce that our keynote speaker for the 2019 Latinx Youth Summit will be Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodriguez!
"Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodriguez was born in Managua, Nicaragua but calls Nashville, Tennessee home. She got her Masters of Divinity from Vanderbilt University in the Spring of 2015. The bulk of her work is around making accessible, through story telling and curating content, the theories and heavy material that is oftentimes only taught in the racist/classist institutions known as academia. To date she has published over 200 articles online and particpated in the YA anthology 'Nevertheless, We Persisted.'
She started the platform Latina Rebels in 2013, and currently it boasts over 200k organic followers online. She has been featured in Telemundo, Univision, Mitú, Huffington Post Latino Voices, Guerrilla Feminism, Latina Mag, Cosmopolitan, Everyday Feminism, and was invited to the White House in the fall of 2016. She is unapologetic, angry, and uncompromising about protecting and upholding the stories of brown folks. Que viva la gente!"
We invite you to learn more about Prisca at her website: https://www.priscadorcas.com/
