Interesting Fact : In 1951 Mervyn Victor Richardson hit on a winner when he built a rotary mower in his garage in the Sydney suburb of Concord. His prototype model had a hand built frame and a peach tin petrol tank. Tired of pushing hand mowers around their lawns, Australians flocked to buy the new Victas. The first production Victa mower was made in 1953 and by 1965 Richardson was a millionaire. This is the start of what we know as the traditional lawn mower these days.

Grass Maintenance Tips to keep your greens KLEEN!
1. Disease & Weeds
Lawn disease can be evident through discolouration which starts as yellow patches on your lawn, but it can eventually lead to your lawn dying. Common lawn diseases include fungus and mold based diseases. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda and 5 litres of water. Spray the solution on your lawn every three days until the fungus dies. Neem oil is also an effective fungicide.
Weeds can also take over and make life difficult for your lawn to flourish, a good w**d killer (natural options also available) can help with this.
2. Mowing Mistakes
Mowing your lawn too short or too high can cause your lawn to starve from lack of nutrients. Remember that the green part of the grass blades assists with photosynthesis. Oil leaks from the machinery can also cause fuel or oil to go to the roots and kill them at root level over time so make sure the machinery is well maintained.
3. Lawn Nutrient Deficiency
The underlying soil could be void of important nutrients, this is common in coastal areas like Kouga. The nutrients required by grass are as follows :
Nitrogen (Most Important)
Phosporous
Potassium
Magnesium
Iron
Oxygen
It may help to spread a thin layer of fertilizer over your lawn every 3 months to assist the nutrient intake and to help make your grass greener.
4. Seasonal Change
It will be fairly common for us here in Kouga to see our lawns go a bit browner during the summer months as this is when we get the least rainfall. Due to the fact that we are in a water-restricted area, there is not much we can do other than use reclaimed water.
5. Frequent Traffic
Any busy part on your lawn, for instance in front of your driveway or leading up to any entrances etc will be very difficult to resolve because the grass simply won't have much chance to recover. Consider paving these areas.
We know maintaining a garden (large or small) isn't perhaps the easiest task which is why KLEEN K*T is here. You can rest assured the job will get done timeously, with a smile! ππ Let's get the job done, it's what we do best.
We figured it's time for a new face so we teamed up with Darren Morrisby from Codeular who helped us put our new branding together and we are very pleased with the outcome. Along with the new branding, comes a revitalised business approach and a new sense of purpose πͺ We hope you like the new look and we hope to see you soon! The KLEEN K*T Team.
Tip for the week: Garden Plants love coffee just as much as you π€
Coffee contains a lot of nitrogen, which not only kills off w**ds and bacteria but can also help certain types of plants (a.k.a those that prefer more acidic soil) flourish. Plus, your daily cuppa also contains significant amounts of magnesium and potassium, both of which are key factors in plant growth and health.
Statistically, Kouga generally receives most of it's precipitation during the winter months unlike inland areas which receive most of their precipitation during the summer months so we are not only excited because a busy period is approaching for us, but Kouga desperately needs the water and hopefully the catchment areas benefit this year.
