Shout out to another amazing PMEA All-Stare Conference this year! Got to engage in so many great sessions and performances from musicians/educators all around the state and beyond! Some session highlights were definitely Strategies for improving Double Reed Intonation, How to sustain A Modern Band Ensemble, and the Keynote presented by Maria Ellis (The Girl Conductor). Performance wise outside of the Pershing’s Own and the All-State performances, the Poquessing MS Select Choir, WCU Wind Symphony, and the Doylestown Symphonic Winds! Can’t wait for next year!

Final complete my Modern Band I Training session at the PMEA All-State Conference! The topic of Modern Band has been an area of interest for so many year and to see so many PA Music educators engaged in this work to reach more students than those found in our Band, Choir, and String programs has been inspiring! Thank you to my past coop teacher Henry Pearlberg for all the work he’s been doing even in retirement to continue helping pre-service and active teachers! Also to Little Kids Rock (MusicWill) and the modern band trainers for all of there assistance today! Enjoy, a performance of an original song by the Sagewood Shakers, with me on drumset along with other members who are also on instrument they either learned to play today or have minimal experience on!

Been spending some time exploring more Tuba music these past few week as I begin solidifying music for a potential solo recital in the spring. One area of tuba music in particular I’ve been looking at are unaccompanied solos as finding/scheduling an accompanist can be challenging for those outside of university or school. Enjoy some tuba music!

Been a while since I’ve attempted a new composition, but was in the mood to compose today! So decide to start/plan a new piece for band inspired by another piece I composed in college, themed around the coming of winter. Enjoy a rough intro to “Winter Awakening”, featuring some MIDI audio without much dynamic balance.

Had a great performance tonight with The Philadelphia Wind Symphony and Temple University Wind Symphony! Felt very much at home again at the Temple Performing Arts Center and to share the stage with so many wonderful musicians was truly special! Thank you to everyone who attended and tuned in online, also shout out to my co-host/music education buddy Micaela Hickey for coming out and supporting!

As I begin getting back into shape for an upcoming self-produced solo recital this Spring. Here is a practice run of Marcello’s Sonata V in C, Adagio, which will most likely open the recital program. Always loved playing baroque pieces on tuba and this piece holds a special place in my tuba career as it was my first jury piece on CC Tuba while at Temple University! Enjoy with headphones!

16/07/2022

The Maestoso and Piu animato sections from Harold L. Walters Concertante! A fun tuba piece for any high school tuba player to learn. Plus it’s also the PMEA district 11 audition piece for 2022, so if anyone is looking for a reference recording here’s something to listen to! Outside of just notes and rhythm remember style and phrasing are king!!!
