Can’t sleep. It’s 8/22 at 2:22 am. If you know me at all, you know 22 is my angel number. It has followed me my whole life, normally at times of joy and love. This time, in death. Not mine of course, but of that of my dad. 8/22 will forever be etched into my brain as the moment my life changed forever. It’s been 3 years and I still grieve like it’s yesterday. Coming to grips with you actually being gone has been very difficult for me, and for Tara. We knew you were sick and we knew, eventually, you would be healed in heaven but as anyone can see from the FaceTime photos below, your decline was faster than we could have ever imagined. Hours. That’s all it took to take you from joking about racing your wheelchair down the street to you not being able to speak. 4 days in hospice and that was it, you were gone from this earth forever. It doesn’t matter what you know and when you know it, 4 days was too short. It was like it was 4 seconds. We needed more time. More time to process but more importantly, more time with you. I am currently going through a season of my life where everything is changing and most importantly, I am. It’s scary but I know that both God and you are telling me this is where I need to be. Dad, I think of you often, and talk to you even more than that. I have never needed you more. I talked to mom and you will never believe how amazing she is doing. She gives her all to her patients and then the rest, she gives to God. She makes me feel so much better and every time I talk to her, I feel at peace. I wish I could have more of those moments with you. I know you are with Jesus but I can’t help wondering if you’re alone. I wonder if you are happy. I wonder if you’re proud. The unknown is what bothers me so much. It’s also the not being able to pick the phone up and call you. …Cont’d in the comments…
