Home in a Hundred Places
A Novel by Sarah Dayan Mueller
Raymond Blanco never intended on leading a life of many roles, but after more than 90 years of experiences, he has a hard time remembering many of them. Raised in a Sephardic family in Egypt during the height of a growing resistance against Jews, Raymond maneuvers his way through childhood and into young adulthood with the guidance of his ol
When NYPD forensic artist Sophie Meyers sketches a facial composite of a suspect in a botched armed robbery, she didn’t expect to draw to her estranged twin brother, Thomas. In between the chaos, she’s able to contact him and gives him 24 hours to turn himself in.
The Lies on Their Lips portrays dynamic relationships rooted in loyalty but stained by dishonesty and deception. It is a novel that tests the bonds of siblings and questions the foundation of morals. A mixture of truths and lies illustrate how a family can be pulled apart and brought together again.
Sophie suspects there must be more behind her brother’s motives, but it is more than either of them are willing to acknowledge. Will Sophie ultimately decide to turn Thomas in to the authorities after time is up, or protect his secrets?
🚨New book alert!🚨
Time has a funny way of doing things.
I got the idea for my latest book, The Lies on Their Lips, back in 2015, when I was still a counselor in San Diego. I wrote the majority of it pretty quickly, but for whatever reason I couldn’t finish it. Time went on, we moved across the country a couple of times, and I became a mom. My novel sat frozen in time, unfinished and nearly forgotten about.
Fast forward to 2022, something made me open up that first draft I wrote seven years ago. A little editing turned into a huge rewrite and before I knew it, my novel was finally completed. Where I was once met with writer’s block, this time the writing came effortlessly, because the time was right.
The Lies on Their Lips is also about the right timing of things in life.

Even though it took me a while to finish this novel, I’m so excited that it’s finally here! And the best part of this whole process? I published The Lies on Their Lips at exactly the right time, on my son’s birthday. 🥰

Home sweet home
And now, for a photo of somewhere I absolutely love, the Philippines. 🇵🇭
Such a big part of Home in a Hundred Places was writing about how my dad was a natural protector in the family, and it's something I've always been grateful for.
Hong Kong holds a special place in my heart. It's where we took a special family vacation together, and it's where I one day want to bring my son.
One thing I've learned through this journey of being an author is that lots of writers stick to one genre and solely write in that style. I somehow end up dipping my toes in a few genres, like historical fiction and contemporary fiction. Up next? A romcom series that travels all around the world! #
A 3 year old in the middle of Peppa World, it's his dream come true.
Sometimes, all things align when you're in the right place at the right time
The fact that this book made its way into Barnes & Noble still blows my mind
Thank you Mixed Asian Media for featuring my book, Home in a Hundred Places, not just once but twice!
I recently wrote a piece about my novel and how much travel has influenced my life, and my writing. Mixed Asian Media also interviewed me for another piece where I talked more in depth about my book and writing process, and what’s up next for me as an author!

It's December in Chicago right now and let's just say it definitely doesn't look like that.
But somewhere across the world, there's a small island in the Philippines that looks like that. The Philippines is one of the many locations in Home in a Hundred Places, one of the many places my parents visited together and called home.

I had the chance to chat with Ardain Isma for his YouTube Channel, "The Conversation" and it was such a great convo about Home in a Hundred Places and my journey as an author!

Twins for the win
This guy is almost 3 and I'm not sure I can handle that 😭
Home has meant places like Brooklyn, Hong Kong, London, and Miami. But it's also meant family watching TV on the couch, the sweet aromas being baked in the kitchen, and falling asleep under the same roof each night.
A black Friday reminder that if you're searching for something to read (specifically an emotional and adventurous story about a spy who loses his memories due to Alzheimer's disease) while you eat all those leftovers, I got you.
One of my dad’s favorite things to do was to take a walk. So when I recently heard about Walk to End Alzheimer's, I signed up immediately for the event. My family and I walked in Chicago, and each of us held a purple forget me not, which symbolizes the loss of a loved one due to Alzheimer's disease.
I’m continuously learning how much of my dad’s adventurous spirit continues to live on within me. My novel, Home in a Hundred Places, is all about his remarkably fearless and adventurous life, before Alzheimer’s disease robbed him of his memories. He traveled the world and lived in 9 different countries. But more importantly, he loved to walk, to see the world from the ground up, to feel the fresh air on his arms.
He is the reason why I walked, and he is the reason why I will go for a walk every day, for as long as I can.
Revamped and looking good
Happy Birthday Marines!
Pssst! There's some new projects coming soon! Aside from getting the word out on Home in a Hundred Places, I'm rereleasing a polished up version of my first novel Greater than the Still (with a new cover design!) I'm also getting started on my next novel, The Lies on Their Lips, which is a psychological thriller.
For all my fellow writers out there, what's the next project you're working on?
Home in a Hundred Places is officially a number 1 best seller on Amazon 🥳🥳
GQ ready (but maybe needs a haircut first) 😂
There's Asian cities, and then there's Macau 😍
I visited Macau with my family a few years ago and fell in love with it almost immediately. Macau gets a little mention in Home in a Hundred Places as a place my parents visited while they lived in Hong Kong, and I'm grateful I got to experience it myself too.
Being Jewish in Egypt during the 1940's and1950's wasn't easy. Over 80,000 Jews were pressured to leave the country they loved, just like my family was, because of their religion. It's something that plays such a major turning point in Home in a Hundred Places, and in so many people's lives.
Took a little bit of a social hiatus, but it looks like I'm back! We spent a good part of the summer in Brooklyn, which is exactly what I needed. So much of my novel, Home in a Hundred Places, is set in the heart of Brooklyn, it was so nice to be back home where it all took place.
20 years ago today, burnt papers from the World Trade Center landed all across the lawn in front of my house and I will always remember it like it was yesterday 💔
For me it will always be New York or nowhere

Let's just say his dad is super proud of this moment 🎣
There's a bunch of cities that make an appearance in Home in a Hundred Places, but one of my favorites to write about was Hong Kong.
Hong Kong will always live in a special place in my heart. It was the city where my parents met, and 30+ years later, it was the city that I got to experience with them. Writing about Hong Kong in my novel was like reliving that family trip all over again.
Anyone have Hong Kong on their bucketlist?
Summer nights in Brooklyn just hit different.
So much of Home in a Hundred Places is inspired by the ins and outs of Brooklyn and its beautiful people. Is there a special place that inspires your stories?
✨ Home in a Hundred Places quote of the day ✨
When I started writing Home in a Hundred Places, I never planned to write about meals or food, but I quickly realized how important sharing a meal and highlighting Egyptian food would be to the story. Coming together at the dining table is something my family always cherished, and something I still love to this day.
Is there a certain table or a favorite meal that brings you back to your childhood?
For all the authors out there, there's nothing that can compare to seeing a stack of your own books, am I right?
There's no place else I'd rather call home
So much of Home in a Hundred Places takes place in destinations all across the world, but at the end of the day, home for Raymond was always New York.
What's your favorite spot in NYC? Or for those who have never been, what's one thing you'd love to see in New York?
🥰 I love exploring the world with you 🥰

A mother's voice can be a thousand things all in one: soothing, comforting, patient, loving, understanding, home.

I can't believe Home in a Hundred Places has been out for 4 months now! It was an amazing journey to write this novel and an even more beautiful experience to share it the world.

✨ Home in a Hundred Places quote of the day ✨
Both of my parents were born on tropical islands, one in the Caribbean and one in Southeast Asia. Both of their childhoods were spent underneath coconut trees, underneath the same warm sun.
The backdrop of Home in a Hundred Places is full of beautiful places all across the world. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to travel around the world with my parents. Traveling will always continue to be one of the greatest experiences I could ever have, as well as something I can't wait to share with my son.
This was taken at the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto, Japan, which also happens to be one of my dad's favorite countries. Where are some of your favorite destinations?
