I had such a lovely time with the 1st Thame Beavers last week! It was a bit of a change of scenery for me, but the children aged 6-8 loved the session I ran to help them in obtaining their Disability Awareness badge. It was great fun leading various activities and teaching them their names, the Beaver promise, and their Moto "Be Prepared" in sign language! Thank you 1st Thame Beavers for inviting me along for the evening!

It's always great to receive feedback following a training session. This lovely quote is from Jade Cook, founder of Spectrum Community Arts following their Volunteer Day where I delivered three training sessions on 'Effective Communication', 'Autism Awareness' and 'Inclusive Language and Physical Disabilities'. Thank you Jade for such a great testimonial!

"It has been an absolute joy to watch our volunteers implement the information, tools and advise given by Elisha in our sessions in the last few weeks! Our volunteers are much more confident and as a result our participants have had far richer experiences! Elisha's knowledge and experience was delivered in a consumable way with a combination of lecture style, group discussions, movement breaks and interactive games and elements! She created a space where all our staff and volunteers felt comfortable enough to ask questions and start deeper conversations and debates. The best thing about this training was that it was completely bespoke to our organisation! She took the time to find out what we're about, what our aims were but also our current challenges to make it as effective as possible! We'll definitely be recommending her services and using her again!" - Jade Cook, Founder of Spectrum Community Arts

Hello, my name is Elisha Heard and I am passionate about disability awareness, inclusivity, accessibility and removing barriers for disabled people (with a particular passion for assistive communication). I have 7 years experience working with children and adults with disabilities in a variety of settings including education, day centres, performing arts, residential services and many more.

I have a first class degree in Disability Studies and Education from Liverpool Hope University and have completed several British Sign Language and Makaton qualifications. I am also a qualified Makaton Trainer.

I set up this business with the aim of going into organisations to teach staff and volunteers on various topics including (but not limited to): assistive communication, inclusive practices, disability awareness, accessibility and many more! Each workshop is tailored specifically for your organisation and the service you provide. I aim to encourage conversations with the goal of introducing practical changes and additions that organisations can easily implement which will be effective in removing barriers for disabled people, and creating a more accessible and inclusive environment, ultimately improving the service they provide. Delighted to have been invited to present a training session on: Communication and Autism Awareness for Leighton Buzzard Mencap. The session included some practical interactive activities which everyone threw themselves into. The group were also posed with some scenarios to consider how they might apply the content of the training to these often real life situations the volunteers at the holiday club might encounter this summer. I appreciated the positive feedback received and hearing the many ways in which the training will be utilised at the holiday club to benefit the children in attendance, creating a more inclusive environment along with implementing some useful simple communication tools and increased awareness of autism.

Thank you Mencap for the opportunity and the warm welcome you and your volunteers afforded me.
