Brookline Town Hall Impromptus, 2018:

When I was invited to participate in Town Halls Walls I decided to create a number of untitled pieces--“Impromptus”--site specific to the Select Board Meeting Room that will only exist for the months of the exhibition.

I work a lot with found materials: things found on the street or sometimes in my own studio: Art Trouvé if you want to give it the French imprimatur.

Art and artists have become separated from much of our present culture, isolated by false perceptions of what art is and who artists are. We are all innately creative, just waiting for a Green Light of one kind or the other to reveal what lies within us.

For this project I wanted to “make art” with the play I had as a child and to improvise as I did in my early days as an actor, bringing together materials and forms and colors to experience how easily compositions might manifest themselves.

The frames will remain throughout the run of the exhibit but my plan is to change what is within the frames every four weeks. With what remains to be seen. Stay tuned.

True spontaneity means that you are going into the unknown, to a place you have never been before. That means leaving behind the known and the comfortable, and moving into the unpredictable. To be truly spontaneous takes the desire and courage to take risks, with a hunger to open new doorways into the unknown.
