November's Journey Home
Our journey into the world of home education.
Winter Solstice βοΈπ²π―
Today we went to our very first winter solstice celebration at
Firstly it was so lovely to be back in our favourite place with our favourite little community. Secondly I was blown away by how beautiful it was today. The feeling of walking into the round house and smelling delicious winter curry and wassail, hearing the chatter and laughter of children and gentle christmassy music, seeing the candles and lights twinkling and just feeling so warm and lovely. It was pure β€οΈ
We sang songs, made beeswax candles, listened to winter solstice stories and poems, ate delicious food and walked the evergreen circle to light the way to the end of the darkest days and celebrate yuletide.
Honestly my heart feels so full. Tab you always out do yourself. We love you π
We finally got out for a walk in the woods this afternoon after all being pretty poorly since last week.
The girls and I are still recovering but it was nice to get out the house for a little while. B got really invested in adding to this little stick house we found and she spent ages decorating it and putting in a "Christmas tree". Her adhd often means she struggles to focus on things that aren't screen related sometimes, so it was really nice to see her able to enjoy something and I actually felt bad that I had to tear her away from it.
Nice to be back home in the warm though to be honest. π₯Ά
FIRE STATION VISIT π§βππ§―π₯π

Cavies and Cake πΉπ°
Today we had a lovely visit to Cavies & Cake to have some delicious treats and enjoy some cuddles with some guinea pigs.
We loved it so much and the staff were absolutely fantastic and we're especially good with neurodivergent children and Michelle was so patient with Belle when she was struggling and couldn't sit still (we suspect she has ADHD like her Dad) and she took her for a walk round the garden and helped her refocus.
The guinea pigs were just as sweet as the staff and so gentle and chilled too. Definitely will be back to see them again.
Check out my stories for the cutest video ever!
Thank you so much Cavies and Cake β€οΈ
Summer is here βοΈ πΎ

Summer Solstice βοΈ
Yesterday and today we spent an amazing day and night celebrating the longest day and being grateful for the beautiful sunshine.
We made sun tea, ate strawberries, took a river walk to watch the sunset, sat round the fire and camped out under the stars with some amazing friends. Thank you FEN ZEN for always being a haven of peace and joy. We love you β€οΈ

Such a lovely day with friends and we had an awesome educational rockpool session in the schools room at the start which was amazing and we learnt all about crabs growing back their legs π¦ and starfish breathing through their bumps π
Amazing day up close with some awesome animals. Massive thanks to for providing this opportunity. So happy I organised this for our local home ed community.
Such a lovely experience and opportunity to handle some exotic animals.
B was so brave and handled everything without hesitation. E was a bit too scared to touch anything, but she did have a tiny cuddle with the meerkat before she freaked out haha. Everyone adored the meerkat cuddle though, so cute! π
Lovely little explore around Ryston this afternoon and a drive through the countryside πππ±πΎ
We didn't see a single other human soul and it was lush. So grateful to have all this on our doorstep.

[ NEW YEAR'S DAY WALK ] π²π³π We went for a lovely peaceful forest walk today and it was so nice to get out in the fresh air and nature again. We listened to the birds and the wind in the trees and played hide and seek.
We've spent so much time indoors and been so busy the last few weeks, not to mention the weather has been too wet to do anything and we'd missed it!
Looking forward to getting back into the for the new year.

[ CHRISTMAS PLANTS ] π²πΏβ Today we collected winter foliage to decorate a willow wreath we made at FEN ZEN and I spent tonight putting it together. I'm so proud of how it came out.
We have been so busy that I didn't post much last month as both girls had their birthdays, plus a joint birthday party and its been non stop.
We did manage to look at some weather books last week though and I meant to post but didn't get time.
We are in the festive mood now though and we are loving all things wintery and christmassy. π
We had a beautiful winter walk at and talked about the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees, including the giant redwood. We also fed the ducks and looked for Christmas plants to put on our wreath. We even did a spot of birdwatching in case we don't get time next week!
Days like today make my heart happy. β€
[ FUNGUS WEEK ] ππ This week has been a super busy week full of wet walks, birthdays and fireworks.
We went on a nature walk to hunt for fungi but it was so wet we didn't stay out long, despite that we saw so many and B was really good at spotting them, much better than I was!
E turned 2 on the 5th so we've been celebrating π
The best part was being able to go to the soft play during off peak times when all the other kids are at school so it's lovely and quiet. π
[ PUMPKIN WEEK ] π We've had lots of fun these last couple of weeks doing lots of pumpkin and Halloween themed activities. We did 2 weeks of pumpkins because we've been so busy so had to spread it out and skip tree week.
This is one of B's favourite times of year because she just lives for dressing up and spooky things.
We've had a sensory table, made clay pumpkins and then painted and sealed them, made felt pumpkin faces, carved real pumpkins, dressed up, had a home ed Halloween party at the group I run and painted some munchkin pumpkins.
Tonight we are dressing up again and off trick or treating too and tomorrow is Samhain where we shall be remembering those we have lost and talking about the origins of all Hallows Eve and Samhain and celebrating with friends at
Hope you've all had a fab week. Happy Halloween π πΈπ§ββοΈπ€
[ PUMPKINS ] π π½ We have decided to start pumpkin week a week early and do 2 weeks of pumpkins because we love Halloween, Samhain and all things related, especially pumpkins.
We went on our annual family pumpkin picking trip yesterday and it was amazing. Its so lovely seeing E getting involved now she's older too.
We are hoping to do some pumpkin carving next week and we might do some other pumpkin related things when we get the time and motivation. We have a busy few weeks!
Who else is doing pumpkins already? π π

So as I am technically an author (seems so weird saying thatβ¦!ππΌββοΈ) I felt the need to join in on . So I wrote this poem about my favourite thing in the world, being a home Ed mum.
I hope Iβm always in a position to be a home Ed mum and maybe a home Ed nanny one day. I love it and I donβt feel the need to change it. Life hits us sometimes so I just hope life doesnβt hit this..
