The next KSCI science communication webinar will be held on Monday March 25th at 12 pm CT!

We will be joined by Dr. Lauri M. Baker, an associate professor within the Department of Agricultural Education and Communication at the University of Florida. Baker’s science is communication. In this webinar she will share past and recent research that demonstrates the benefit of science communication, challenges, and best practices. She will highlight survey work with general American audiences on the role of trust in science communication and specific research with more niche audiences and particular areas of science. It is almost time for our February KSCI Science Communication Webinar!

On Monday February 19th at 3 pm CT, Filmmaker and Associate Professor of Film at California State University Sacramento, Kathy Kasic, will discuss her experiences crafting narratives from polar science research in Antarctica and Greenland. Using two case studies, The Lake at the Bottom of the World and her latest film, The Living Ice of Greenland, she will share her methods for engaging audiences through a sensory verite style of filmmaking.

Happy New Year! This spring semester we are continuing our science communication professional development webinar series!

For this next meeting, we are joined by Dr. Alex Segrè Cohen, an Assistant Professor of Science & Risk Communication with the Center for Science Communication Research in the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon. Prior to joining UO, Alex served as the Director of Operations at the nonprofit, Our Climate Voices, where she was actively involved in the environmental justice movement, climate storytelling, and centering those at the forefront of climate crises. In this webinar, Alex will discuss recent works focused in trust and trust in experts.

For this next meeting of the KSCI Fall Webinar professional development series, we are joined by Dr. Bruce Lewenstein, a Professor of Science Communication and former chair of the Department of Science & Technology Studies at Cornell University. In 2022, he began serving as Cornell's University Ombuds. Trained as a historian of science, he works across the field of public communication of science and technology, including informal science education, citizen science, and communication training for scientists.

The Kansas Science Communication Initiative is excited to begin our Fall Science Communication Webinar Series on August 14th, 2023 with a session led by Dr. Jamie Loizzo from the University of Florida!

In this webinar, learn how you (science experts!) can apply simple instructional design techniques and cost effective mobile hardware and software to design and implement science engagement programs for youth and adult audiences. Also, get a behind the scenes look at The Streaming Science Project and how college students and scientists work together through project-based learning courses and projects to develop multimedia products and outreach programs with the goal of increasing science literacy and science-based behavior intentions.
