Tree to Trinket

Tree to Trinket

I predominantly use naturally sourced and recycled timber for my work. Each piece of work I create is hand done and completely unique in its own way.

I truly believe that sometimes it's the imperfections that make it perfect! While I do various works in preparation for purchase, I also do custom pieces. If you have an idea, I will work with you to try and bring that idea to reality and produce something that will be unique and personal.

Continuing the recent theme of wood burning and it's a bit of same same but different.
Same wood burning fun, same smell in my hair as the burner does its thing, but different.
This is 1 solid piece of mountain ash that has been left quite raw with the addition of light burning on the edges to improve its rustic look.

Next one finished. (With bad shadowing in the photo from me not taking care where the light is coming from 😬😆)
I think this one may be my favourite so far.

Another wall B'ball holder, this time it's a bit smaller with a different silhouette but I have added those famous numbers!
The white resin kind of took over the red unfortunately but I still think it's turned out well.

I'm always so clean when it comes to dremmelling some new coasters!!! (& as it's clearly a new word coming to the urban dictionary some time soon, do you think "dremmeling" should be spelled with 1 L or 2? 🤣)

A couple of weeks back I whipped up as a cake topper.
Pro's - fun texture with paint over resin to create the basketball "leather" look. Also doubles up as a glow in the dark night light 😆
Cons - resin as a cake topper is heavy so next time I need to put more thought into the how it is placed onto the cake! Should've made a net under it to cover the chunky skewers I had to use.

This one is going to look amazing up on this excited 10 year old's bedroom wall.
The smile was priceless!
While I know I should've taken a photo without the ball, of course I forgot.
So just in case it's not evident, there is a wire hoop holder attached beside Jordan's head. 😁

Some like it hot!

Nothing more to be said 🤣

Gotta be happy with what this afternoon has produced.
Finished product coming soon.

These are my favourite coasters to date!
NOW UP FOR SALE!
This bowl and coaster set was created "free form" using silicone on plastic to create the shapes them draping the bowl before fully cured.
Then they were top coated in resin with the smallest hint of a shimmer.
$100 (+ shipping if required.)

I kinda cheated with this one and used a purchased board instead of making it myself, but the result is still the same!
I prepped the base with a black paint this time around so the autumn colour pallet would not appear translucent and it would keeps its beautiful deep greens.
So shiny you can even see our metal art predator in the reflection 🤣

Putting the next board through the sanding process.
Progress shots after 120 grit, 300 grit and 2000 grit. (With many more grits in between)
Now on to polishing and oiling.

My friends and family know about our shower screen mishap, but for those of you playing along at home, at the end of last year my boys shower screen spontaneously exploded leaving a massive mess in their ensuite. (No one near it, thankfully)
After the mandatory expletives flowed, my creative mind kicked in and I kept a heap of the glass thinking that surely there was something that could be done with it.
Having a play yesterday and I've found alcohol ink runs into the cracks beautifully.
Now let's see what happens when I add the resin!
🤞 the colour holds and doesn't leach back into the clear resin once poured.

Just some MDF, a wiggle of a jig saw and some layers of resin with a teeny bit of glow powder mixed in (kinda like a sprinkle of magic pixie dust 🤣) and a shark appears.

I have to admit, while in the middle of creating this piece I felt like I should put some lights around it and add it to my yard Christmas display. A marine theme would be so cool!

Last minute Christmas gifts.
I've heavily discounted them (most by 50%) so I can clear out older stock and start fresh next year creating some new beauties!
I also have some Initial key rings for only $5 for 1 or 3 for $12 (limited letters available), oyster serving tray and clocks.

PM for more info

An order for a couple of free form bowls fitted in just before Christmas.
The blue is my favourite one so far!

A bit of Christmas tree decoration fun.
I am in love with how these glow in the dark pigment powders perform from
Not cheap, but I think they're worth it.

Just a teeny deviation from normal stuff to make a pocket stone for a special boy that is missing a bud of his.
Kinda cute, but I'll leave the real painting talent to my sister (& if you're not following her page yet, you should be! 😜)

I always love creating a piece that appears quite random to me, but has a personal meaning to the intended recipient.
Hand routed and back filled with 3 different green and 2 different yellow pigments.

But, there was also a special part for me as this beautiful piece of timber came from my awesome dad. After cutting a dead tree from his nature strip he knew I would be mortified if it ended up in a fire pit, so he ripped it into a few lengths for me and it has been sitting in my garage for about 2 years drying and waiting for the perfect time to use it!!

A great one for the man cave!

Sanding is probably my least favourite part of doing resin, but it is close to the most satisfying when I actually use what little patience I have and allow the different grits to do their work.
Pics are from 180 grit to 2000 (total of 10 different grits) then followed with a plastics polish - each one is from 5 - 10 mins each time.
Yep... think I'm due for a decent neck and shoulder massage to relieve the built up tension 🤣

Photos from Tree to Trinket's post 27/07/2023

Just trying it on for size so I can work out what height legs it needs.

Lots of sanding & polishing to go and then time to whack on some Rubio to finish it 😁

Photos from Tree to Trinket's post 17/07/2023

This is turning out to be a bit of fun 😆
Kitchen warming draw being double purposed to keep the bottles warm to prevent shattering while I cut them.
I'm expecting to have to do another 3, maybe 4 layers of resin before it's ready for its finishing touches and some legs.

Japanese have used wood burning (shou sugi ban) for centuries as a method to protect and preserve wood.
Me? I did it because it is FUN and looks awesome! 😁

Blue wave board available for purchase now.
If you're interested in the pink one, you need to get down to the Altona Basketball stadium this weekend for the Gators "Pink Round" as this; and a lot other other awesome goodies being generously donated by local businesses and individuals; are being raffled off in order to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Approx dimensions
57cm top to end x 24cm wide

A fruit bowl? Decorative artwork? Trinket dish?
Doesn't really matter what it's used for as I'm sure it will be eye catching no matter what.

Next up is this chilli serving board. 5 layers of resin to create a floating effect in between camphor laurel timber.
I love the smell of this wood while working on it (and smelling the off cuts while burning in the fire pit is just as good)
A perfect addition for the entertainer at approx 50cm long, it's perfect for an antipasto board.

Just love how a coat of board oil brings out the timber's natural beauty 😍
