*** KID’S LESSON HORSE ON A BUDGET! ***
- Quarter Horse mare
- Vet aged 17-20 years
- 15.1 hh
Sweet as can be, will meet you at the gate and follow you around like a puppy dog! Previously used for a kid’s lesson program, but I’ve just ridden her around the property and on local mountain trails. Easy going, more whoa than go but will pick up speed when asked, will lope off on command. Very easy to handle under saddle and on the ground. Stands quietly for grooming, tack, and mounting. No spook or buck, doesn’t mind kids and dogs running all around her, doesn’t mind heavy equipment, traffic, etc.
However, she does have a couple vices; rides around PERFECT in the arena, but gets a little barn sour after a while on the trail. Stands fine for the farrier to trim her hooves, but cannot be shod without sedation. No health or behavior concerns beyond that though.

- Quarter Horse gelding
- Coggins says 10, but I’d guess a couple years older
- 15 hh
Handsome gelding that’s said to have spent his whole life working cattle in Texas, but he’s been sitting the last couple months.
Good brakes, backs up, flexes. Lunges to voice commands. Loads and hauls fine. Stands for mounting/dismounting. Gentle in a general sense, but not for a beginner, gets sassy if he’s not ridden consistently. After time off, he will give you a few easy bucks to test you before he gets moving nice, but overall a pretty lazy horse. Would be fun for someone who has time to put into him and isn’t a nervous pushover, will make a solid ranch horse.
Super sweet disposition, in your pocket personality. Easy to catch in the pasture. Stands perfect for grooming and tack. 100% sound and barefoot. Has been fully vetted for pain and lameness, also just had his teeth done. Up to date coggins and recently dewormed.

Gentle giant!!! Easy to catch, easy to lead and handle, stands quiet for grooming/tack/mounting/etc. Stands great for the farrier, 100% sound and good barefoot. Loads, unloads, and hauls fine. Gets along with everyone in the pasture, middle ranks of the herd.
No spook, crosses anything you put in front of him. Amish raised and trained, used to pull a cart but I haven’t personally driven him. Has been trail ridden extensively! Adult beginner safe or good for a confident kid! Slow and steady, has a nice big trot. Nothing fancy, but very responsive to cues and an all around good horse!

We are SO CLOSE to finishing the new trail system!! Can’t wait to start taking y’all out on rides again! 🖤
Welcome home Rosco!!! 🤎 He needs some weight, but I’ve dealt with much worse, this is going to be a nice horse!
Something to think about going into the new year. I have worked all my life to get this little place. It’s nothing fancy but it’s efficient and designed to make working my horses easier. But hear me out, this is not what makes me the horseman I’ve become. It was all those times when I didn’t have a decent place to work a horse. Places that made me think of a better way to get the job done. Places that made me think outside the box. This place is an accumulation of ideas I learned from working at all those other places. Yes this place is nice but I wouldn’t trade what I learned from those other not so nice places for all the gold in the world. You see don’t look at your situation (poor fences, sloppy conditions, poor footing, whatever) as a curse but rather as a blessing. These situations will teach you what you want or don’t want and they will help you become better horsemen and people if you learn to appreciate the lessons being taught. Anyone can feel confident in place with big doors, beautiful pens, enclosed alleyways. But take a barely halter broke weanling through a mud path with no fences for containment and try to get them through a walk through door into a dark musty smelly barn. I’ll guarantee you will learn more about how to handle a horse compared to if you didn’t have to worry about a c**t getting away from you and being gone down the road because it was in a safe, secure and enclosed area. Kinda of like riding in an arena where you feel more confident than riding outside but in an arena you’re really only riding half the horse where outside you’re riding the whole horse.Blessings and curses come in all wide variety shapes. What looks like one may turn out to be the other……..Happy New Year everybody!

⭐️ Miniature Pony
⭐️ gelding
⭐️ 8 years old
Solid black, fluffy, and sweet as can be!!!
Previously used for a petting zoo and the pony carousel. Doesn’t mind kids, dogs, machinery, you name it he’s probably seen it! Awesome companion pony, gets along with everyone. Would make a cool little driving pony, but I don’t have a cart for him. Leads good and will go ANYWHERE you want. Loads, hauls, and unloads with no issues. Only issue is he doesn’t like to stand still when tied, but stands for grooming, vet, and farrier as long as you keep petting him. Up to date coggins and recently dewormed. Hooves trimmed on December 13th.

Happy National Day of the Horse!!! In honor of all our four legged partners, here’s photos of all the great ones who have come through the ranch in the last couple years 🖤
(I’m only missing a few here, but they will be added soon)
Loud people make quiet horses?
Maybe.
I don’t know about you, but as a highly sensitive person, when I’m around loud, quick moving, erratic and insensitive people, I tend to withdraw. If I can’t get away from them for whatever reason, the only way for me to get through being around someone like that is to somewhat disassociate.
All horses are highly sensitive, until someone creates lack of sensitivity in the horse.
Why would I want a horse to do that around me?
I’m certainly not saying you should tip toe around your horse, and you should very certainly prepare them for life. But why would you ever want to teach the horse that our body, our energy, our feel and the world at large is meaningless stimulus to be shut out?
Quiet, soft and calm people produce quiet, soft and calm horses. Smooth people who move with awareness create confident horses.
People who have self awareness and sensitivity to a horse’s needs produce quiet horses.
People who can prepare a horse to experience all of life’s uncertainties without creating a freeze or withdrawal response create quiet horses.
Quiet people create quiet horses.
Every horse needs a different touch, and only a person willing to spend more time listening than making assumptions about a horse can create a truly soft, calm but responsive horse.
As my teacher says: leave the life in, take the fear out!
We’re headed for a temperature drop this week - a higher risk time for colic. Be sure to monitor your horse’s water intake this week as they tend to drink less to conserve body heat in cold weather. Consider adding 1-2 tablespoons of plain white salt to their meals early week to drive their thirst and get them well hydrated BEFORE the cold snap. Go for it, even if you leave salt blocks out. Some horses don’t mind if you add some water to their feed to make a mash. Remember, they make more body heat with hay than grain, so if you want to offer a little something extra to warm them up overnight - another flake of hay, not more grain.💧
Dr. Parks has been managing a group of horses who unfortunately munched on wilted red maple leaves from a down tree and wanted to remind everyone of the danger of red maple toxicity.
Eating the bark and leaves can cause severe damage to the red blood cells, resulting in life threatening anemia and kidney damage. We can give medications to reduce uptake from the GI tract if we see the horse early and IV fluids once horses are showing signs of toxicity.
Know what these leaves look like and contact your vet immediately if you think your horse has ingested any!
One of our best horses is a 30ish year old Mustang, healthy as ever and the kids ADORE him!
We have a client looking for an affordable companion horse. Not really picky, just needs to be gentle and good with one mare who just lost her lifelong gelding partner. As close to Nebo, NC as possible!
Sunset rides are our favorite!
Also, it’s a billion degrees until the sun goes down, so sunset rides are really the option at the moment 🤣
