September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This was a post written by Thomas’ Momma, posted to Truth365, 2 months after Thomas passed away at 12 years old.❤️💜
Today we honor and remember Thomas Scully. His mom, Debbie, recently sent us a message telling us about her amazing son who just passed away a couple of months ago. Please leave her some supportive and comforting comments below.
Rest in peace, Thomas.
"Thomas was diagnosed with Anaplastic Ependymoma Brain tumor when he was 8 years old. Over the course of 4 years and 3 months, Thomas endured 10 brain surgeries, 5 of which were resections. He had radiation treatments and numerous experimental immunotherapy. He traveled from Ny to Texas to Germany. He had to learn how to walk 3 times.
You know what I really want to say is my son was Amazing! He gave me strength, hope and happiness. He never complained or felt bad for himself, although he had every right to. He almost always had a smile on his beautiful face. He loved music. It was a constant in his life. He knew the words to songs that we didn't even know he knew. One of his favorites was "Hall of Fame" . He connected with the line, "You can walk straight through hell with a smile" and he did. He inspired others without even knowing it.
A family we had gotten close to in Texas said " Thomas inspired my son to get out of bed and move when that was the last thing he wanted to do because he was in so much pain." "My son looked at Thomas like -look at all he has been through! He is still pushing along with a smile on his face!" "Thomas brought Sunshine to the gloomy hospital" Thomas was my Sunshine!
He was so resilient and loved life! He loved being here! When he wasn't able to do the things he loved, like run around with his friends or climb trees, he would get into something else. He taught himself how to cook. He said it made him feel "accomplished". And let me tell you, he made the best western omelette!
Thomas was so caring. He had a heart of Gold! He really cared about others. He said it made him feel happy when could help someone else feel happy. Even while laying in the hospital dying, he would ask the nurses " How is your day going?" Or "How is your other patient doing? Even " If you need to take care of your other patient, its ok, I can wait"
He loved us! Us being his mom, dad, big brother Jimmy and little sister Jillian. He loved his baby, Snowflake! Snowflake is his cat who was in it through thick and thin! He would travel with us everyday when Thomas was doing radiation. What he loved more than anything was spending time with our Huge extended family and all of his close friends.
There was always a party when Thomas was around! Right up till the end, Thomas gave it everything he had! It was common place to hear Doctors saying "I've never seen this my entire career!" That was Thomas! I mean he was dancing in his bed while intubated! I think the lyrics from another one of Thomas' favorite songs pretty much sums him up and what he was about. The son is "The Man" by Aloe Blacc. "Stand up now and face the sun Won't hide my tail or turn and run It's time to do what must be done Be a king when kingdom comes" That he was and will forever be to me!
My sweet boy passed away on 7/7/16 at the age of 12. I miss him terribly but know I am incredibly blessed to be his Mamma! My greatest fear, besides the one that has been realized, is Thomas being forgotten. Please help by sharing this!"
If you would like for your child to be featured as a "Child of the Day" here on The Truth 365, please send us a private message or email us at [email protected]. Thank you.
