Ann Arbor’s elected officials and city staff manage our city services as revenue centers, including the city-owned water and sewer utility. The Ann Arbor for Public Power folks present no evidence that a publicly-owned energy utility would be managed any differently.

Who’s the A2Politico?
My name is Patricia Lesko. I’m passionate about higher education, learning and local politics.
I have lived in Ann Arbor 37 years, with three years off for good behavior during which time I lived in Rome, Italy and taught at an Italian University. I have two kids and my family lives on the Northside. After teaching college for a decade, I moved into publishing. I’m the Publisher at one of the few remaining independent higher education book publishers in the United States, the Part-Time Press. Our company publishes professional development books for college faculty, and along with our Canadian and European distributors we market and sell our books around the globe, including in translation to Spanish, French and Portuguese reading faculty. Half of the universities in the United States use our books in their faculty development programs. If you are an instructor at a two- or four-year college, the chances are good you’ve used one of our books!
I’m passionate about politics on every level, but particularly the local level, where I believe we see the most profound impact on our daily lives. In 2009, I launched A2Politico as a blog and posted to it anonymously. The blog, which I filled with news about local politics and opinion, attracted around 20,000-30,000 readers per month. In 2010, I added my name to my posts and invited others to contribute, including Chris Savage (who writes his own blog about state and national politics), as well as @LOLGOP.
In 2012, I shuttered A2Politico as a blog and unpublished its page. By then, there were local copycats, and I came to believe while digital is appealing, Ann Arbor needed something different. After a year of planning, from 2013-2016, in response to the closure of the Ann Arbor News in 2009 and the inaccurate, spotty and financially self-serving news product offered to our community by the politically-conservative, out-of-state owners of Advance Media in the form of AnnArbor.com (which was closed then renamed the Ann Arbor News again), I invested in and launched a weekly newspaper, the Ann Arbor Independent. The paper gave away advertising to local businesses/non-profits and accepted no advertising from local/county government or the AAPS, UM, EMU or WCC. The A2Indy served 40,000 readers online and in print and won investigative reporting awards every year it was published, as well as awards for photography and arts writing.
