Who knew team-building days could involve so much adrenaline? Grateful for the memories ziplining at the Ark Encounter with wonderful colleagues from the Creation Museum! I definitely recommend the ziplines as a way to get some cool perspectives of the Ark—not to mention, a little cardio. 😉

So wonderful to see so many moms and daughters gathering together to seek the Lord. As a bonus, the conference organizers were kind enough not only to give us a booth for the Zero Compromise podcast, but also parked us right next to the coffee! ☕️☕️☕️

I watched the Kendrick Brothers’ new movie “The Forge” this week, and it would be hard to overstate how much I appreciated its core message. Here’s why:

In 2018-2019, I traveled around the globe interviewing Christian students in 17 countries about how they kept their faith during secular university. Not one student said the secret lay in joining a youth group with the best video games, attending a church with the flashiest band, or the like. Instead, students overwhelmingly pointed to three factors:

1) Strong spiritual foundations: a close personal walk with God grounded in Scripture study and prayer
2) Intellectual foundations: apologetics training and biblical critical thinking skills for defending a biblical worldview
3) Interpersonal foundations: a strong Christian community support network including a biblical local church and godly older adult mentors.

If someone asked which of these themes came up the most often, I’d have to say mentorship. Scriptural principles and various major studies back this finding up. (More on that in the book "Prepare to Thrive.") The bottom line is, older Christian adults play an indispensable, irreplaceable role in young people’s lives. I can attest to this from personal experience, looking back at the mentors who came alongside me through secular university: the retired pastor who came to campus weekly to pray with students, the couple at church who would invite me over for lunch, the PhD biologist (Dr. Margaret Helder) who answered my questions from evolutionary science classes…

The Forge does a marvelous job not only of portraying the importance of mentorship, but also of illustrating practical ways that Christians can disciple youth. So, I encourage you to take me up on three “dares:”

1) Watch the movie.
2) Try not to cry (just kidding—bring tissue).
3) Ask God to help you live its message out.

Praying that the fullness of God’s purposes for this movie will be accomplished, resulting in impacting many lives for eternity.

First kayaking adventures in the USA! Paddling is one of the main activities I’ve been missing from Canada, so I’m very thankful God sent along good deals on kayaks—and better yet, friends who are game for exploring storm drains, skirting water snakes, and wading through ankle deep mud. 😎

Road trip! Giving a brand new talk called “Artificial Intelligence and Human Futures: What Should Christians Think?” at a free homeschool conference in Tennessee. Dr. Jennifer Hall Rivera will be speaking on, “Does Science Confirm the Bible?” Prayer appreciated!

Happily tired from five days of bioethics lectures in Chicago! Emerging technology was the theme for this year’s conference with the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, so choosing between all the interesting breakout sessions was a struggle! Lots of writing to come, God willing. :)
