Infill today using hard gel by .uk in the shade soft pink extreme. Yes that is the natural nail underneath! Still as strong as ever.

The before pic is hilarious, you can tell they’ve been through it! It also demonstrates the ideal infill gap size, If we let them grow too much out from the cuticle we would have to remove and start again, the structural integrity falls apart when the extension grows past the centre of the nail bed. Lifting, chipping and peeling all occur when this gap increases.

As I have recently begun the switch to Aprés gel x system, I have to come clean, gel x infills are the worst! Not just for me but for you, my clients. Let me explain:

- Aprés gel x tips are not designed for infills. They’re built for soak offs and fresh application. The tips are made with the perfect apex built in. Without an apex you ruin the structural integrity of the nail extension and risk breakage / damage to the natural nail, which brings me to my next point:

- Their built in apex shape means they can’t be filed down with ease after they grow out. If you have gel x and want the length taken down, doing so ruins the quality of the tip and my equipment and it just doesn’t look as smooth and polished as before. It’s not the same as getting a new shape after acrylic extensions or biab overlay, it’s incredibly difficult and having done a few recently I am realising how much better it will be to remove your outgrown set for a newer shape and length for your current style.

- They are not cost / time effective for both of us. It will cost mine and your time trying to file down the tip safely to avoid harming your natural nail and will take more product using builder gel to form an apex on top. It is far safer to soak off the tips and prep the nails for a fresh set!

I will update my Aprés gel x pricing, charging for these services more appropriately, the removal will be at a reduced cost provided you book in for a fresh application!

Gel x infills are popular and can be done with specific tips, as I use the OG luxury brand Après this is not possible. I know some techs do them but I personally don’t think you will achieve the signature Aprés look unless a fresh set is applied each time; with my application methods this means you will be lasting a good 4-5 weeks before you need to see me again ;)
