Our Revolution Texas

Our Revolution Texas is proud to endorse three strong progressives running for Texas Young Democrats positions this year. Celia Morgan for TYD President, Kolby Duhon for TYD Executive Vice President, and Jen Ramos for National Committeewoman.

Changing Texas from the bottom up.

Mayra Mendoza is a social worker by heart and profession. She resides in her hometown of San Antonio, where she is an active member and mentor in her community. Growing up, her summers were spent with family harvesting crops as field laborers. She holds dual degrees in Business and Psychology as a first-generation college student. She currently serves as Texas Young Democrats' (TYD) Secretary, YDA-Hispanic Caucus' Latina Director and Women’s Caucus Liaison, and as the youngest Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, Board of Directors member. Mayra is the final announcement of our TYDLeads team, seeking the position of Membership Director.

Passionate about affording the same opportunities she's been awarded, Mayra is a steadfast advocate for all marginalized communities. Especially; youth to whom sometimes, being ‘political’ may be an afterthought preceded only by survival, but whose livelihoods, the current political reality is first to jeopardize.

In 2000, Mayra worked her first political campaign. In 2013, she made official her right to vote, and became a U.S. citizen. Every year between and since, Mayra has continued lobbying for progressive issues and supported Democratic candidates in critical local, state and national races. "Today at 31, I remain committed to lifting TYD, it’s values and especially our membership. In my role as statewide Membership Director, I aspire to serve as a tangible source of knowledge and unyielding support for youth leaders, and young professionals working hard to build a brighter future for all Texans." -Mayra Mendoza

Steven Garza is a rising Junior at Mayde Creek High School from Houston, Texas. He became involved in political activism in 2015 as a strong supporter of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders. In 2016, he served as a Regional Director for the YDAHSC, interned for Ben Rose’s State Representative campaign, was appointed and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Texas High School Democrats. Outside of politics, he is involved in his school’s NJROTC program, serving as the Public Affairs Officer, Speech and Debate club, and the AP Ambassadors program. He is the youngest member of our team and running to serve as the secretary for the Texas Young Democrats.

Sarah Slamen is a 32 year old Democratic campaigner and activist who has worked on campaigns since her first assignment as an intern on Chris Bell for Governor in 2006. Born in Austin and raised in Ft. Bend County, she is grateful to have had the opportunity to work on local, county, statewide and presidential campaigns for the past decade including Bernie Sanders for US President. Sarah believes the path to rebuilding our party lies in supporting strong grassroots campaigns and public campaign finance reform. She is currently seeking reelection to the Policy Director position.

Jamarr Brown is an accomplished political strategist, healthcare advocate, organizer, and trainer with over 10 years of political experience. Originally from Charleston, SC, he currently lives in Austin, TX and serves as Organizing & Training Director for Planned Parenthood Texas Votes (PPTV), Planned Parenthood's statewide advocacy arm that engages grassroots supporters to fight to protect and expand access to reproductive health care at the local and state levels. Jamarr has worked on political and advocacy campaigns across the country, ranging from Barack Obama’s 2008 historic presidential campaign to working with ColorOfChange to take the Confederate Flag off the South Carolina State House grounds in 2015. Additionally, Jamarr conducts leadership trainings across the country, training leaders on campaign management, candidacy, strategic planning, fundraising, and field engagement. Jamarr is seeking election to serve as the YDA National Committeeman position.

Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, Jen Ramos became a Democrat in 2000 at the age of 8 upon learning about the Electoral College and Al Gore. Raised by a single mother and experiencing first hand the injustices faced by the working class, she has worked to get outstanding people elected to office. Within her years of Democratic involvement, Jen founded her College Democrats chapter at Texas A&M International University, served as a DNC National Delegate, and was the youngest campaign manager in her current home of Austin, Texas during the 2016 general election. When she's not working as a bartender, she is focusing on community advocacy and youth involvement, specifically in anti SB 4 efforts and adding voting access for more young voters. She currently serves as the Deputy Communications Director for Texas Young Democrats, is the Vice President of Austin Young Democrats and is running to serve as the YDA National Committeewoman.

Diana Saleh is a marketing and pharmaceutical sales professional who is currently an MBA candidate at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Raised in New York City, she's called Arlington home for the past 3 years and has completely immersed herself in giving back to the community. Apart from politics and activism, she is also a member of the Junior League and Rotary International. Diana is currently interested in filling the position of Finance Director.

Kolby Duhon was born and raised in small town Groves, TX and moved to Austin 5 years ago to cut his teeth as a fierce Reproductive Justice, Racial Equity, and Labor Rights advocate. He belongs to multiple community organizations and is currently a Statewide Board Member for NARAL Pro-choice TX, President of the Austin Young Democrats, and has the honor of serving statewide as the Executive Vice President of the Texas Young Democrats, where he is seeking reelection. Kolby has a proven track record of ensuring that Young Dems aren't just given a seat at the table, but are heard loudly and clearly at the head of the table and in the halls of power.

Meet Celia Morgan​. Celia is a mother, activist, and Paralegal for a Family Law firm in Downtown Fort Worth, Texas. Born and raised in Arlington, Celia has been an active member the Democratic Party and Young Democrats since 2003 and currently serves as the President of Texas Young Democrats. Through her role as President, Celia also serves on the State Democratic Executive Committee for the Texas Democratic Party, and the Young Democrats of America as a National Committee Member, Deputy Region Director of the South Central Region, and National Trainings Director.

Over the next few days we will be introducing the members of our team in anticipation for the 2017 YDA National Convention in August!
