Analogous Tales: A First-Gen Fellows Exhibition - Opening Reception
Wednesday, November 9, 4:30–5:30 p.m. CT
Sullivan Center, 36 S. Wabash Ave., room 1204

Analogous Tales blends fantastical dreams with the lived realities of first generation students. The artists in this collection display vulnerability and honesty in the stories with which they choose to represent themselves. This exhibition honors both the individual and communal identities and experiences of FirstGen students as they share their stories on the evolution from dreaming, to fantasy, to reality.

The FirstGen Fellows program at SAIC provides a holistic engagement experience for SAIC’s incoming, first-generation students. Analogous Tales will be on display in the Sullivan Building (1204, 12th Floor) during the months of November 2022 - May 2023.

Curated and organized by Gabriela Trinidad-Pérez (MAHA, 23) Graduate Coordinator of the FirstGen Fellows Program.

Join Dual Degree students Sophie Buchmueller (‘22) and Alice Matthews (‘23) for a pop-up event at Comfort Station this Friday the 11th from 6:30-9pm!..
Pet rocks, sock puppets, pillow forts, bottle rockets... How do things become playthings? How can the boundless potential of childlike imagination be imbued in sculptural objects? Featuring modified found objects that make goofy or unexpected characters out of both ordinary and odd materials, Plaything is an invitation to engage with playful objects on a playful platform. As the gallery’s inaugural show, these works and their method of presentation are absurd, joyful, and serendipitous—aligning with the spirit of Tiny Table Gallery.

Plaything features the work of Sarah and Joseph Belknap, Sydney G., Katherine Skwira-Brown, Allie Trigoso, Adrian Wong, and Amy Yoes. During the pop-up show, artworks will be displayed one at a time and will rotate on and off the Tiny Table every 20 minutes. Join us for this special, one night only event!

About Tiny Table Gallery:
Tiny Table Gallery is a Chicago-based artist-run exhibition venue that focuses on displaying small scale, three-dimensional work. The gallery “space” is a single salesman sample table that can easily travel between artists’ homes, outdoor parks, storefront windows, and anywhere that art should be. TTG strives to create a collaborative venue that affirms the importance of small art and provides a space for artists without the pressure of needing to fill an entire gallery.

TTG is run by Alice Matthews (Dual Degree ‘23), Sophie Buchmueller (Dual Degree ‘22), Kelly R Johnston (MFA Sculpture ‘24), and Johnny Doley (MFA Sculpture ‘23). The gallery was founded in Narrowsburg, New York in July 2022, out of conversations around a much larger table.
