TGIF at UC Davis
The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) promotes sustainable development by providing monetary resources to the UCD community.
Navigate the pages of this booklet that showcases MycoTextile Futures! 🍄🌿
This project’s objective was to advance research on mycelium-textile composite materials, disseminating the potential of fungi to revalorize local wastes through biofabrication and bioremediation.
The research involved students, faculty and Davis community into three stages that included:
1️⃣ Preliminary research on mycelium growth into textile waste
2️⃣ Creation of samples that were incorporated to the Ecomaterials Library at the Design Department
3️⃣ Dissemination of the work in different university classes like Biodesign, Sustainable Design, and MAE Graduate Seminar; as well as national and international events like PLATE23 conference in Finland, Chilean Biodesign+Industry Week, Future is Fungi Award (we were 3rd in the research category globally!), and the MFA graduate exhibition at the Manetti Shrem in 2023.

all of the tgif fee goes towards funding sustainability projects and maintaining the program. 25% of the collected fee is returned back to financial aid. this fee at its highest is just 1.16% of your total student fees, but it creates a HUGE impact on campus sustainability🌱🌎
$255 of your tuition annually goes to ASUCD, $422 annually goes to student services and student activities which includes athletics, and only $3.50/quarter would go to TGIF if we are reinstated!

Although the TGIF fee renewal did not pass in the ASUCD Spring Elections, we are still exploring ways to avoid being dissolved.
The support we received amidst our efforts for the past three elections have shown us that even though students are in favor of us passing, a lack of overall voter turnout in the ASUCD elections (20% needed) has been the reason we cannot pass.
We appreciate all the love and support we have gotten over these frustrating times and we will try our hardest to prevent this program from shutting down on the UC Davis campus.
⭐️🌱VOTING ENDS 4/28 AT 8PM 🌱⭐️ We still need that 20%! ⭐️
