Secret Art Basingstoke
Exhibition and sale of postcard-sized original works of art donated by artists and celebrities. The secret?
You'll only know who created your masterpiece once you've bought it. All proceeds will benefit the Brookvale breastfeeding counselling drop in.
Our new Christmas cards are ready! If you've ordered cards they should be with you by Monday!
Votes for Women! I (Lindsey Lawman) am thrilled to be nominated for 'Volunteer of the Year' and as part of 'Volunteer Team of the Year' for the NCT Stars Award 2018.
Juglife and Secret Art Basingstoke were labours of love during the wasteland of unemployment, so I'm extra grateful for this recognition. We're through to regional voting (South Central) which closes 10th December. Give us a click, please! Also up for 'Practitioner of the Year' is Basingstoke's very own Sarah Crowdy who frankly deserves a medal. Do they give medals? I sort of want a medal, now...
Bras off to the wonder team!

Yeah, sure. You COULD send out Xmas cards with a picture of a cat staring at a bauble. Or a creepy assed Santa. Or some drunk toddlers. But I wouldn't.

Folks, the Proteus exhibition is coming to an end (🙁) so if you've got artwork reserved and awaiting collection, please do so by Friday this week.
If you've not had a chance to purchase a piece (seriously, where have you been?) you've still got time. Either pop along to Proteus before 25th August, or check out the collection online. All artwork is £20, apart from those in the 'Little Something Extra' collection.
I will ensure that the artwork remains available to buy in some online format beyond this week for those seriously behind the curve...

Deputy Mayor Diane Taylor opening the sale.
Hi folks - this is a plea to all those who came to our launch night back in July.
My husband lost an incredibly valued personal item that night - a walnut penknife. It was a 40th birthday present (from me) and has his name engraved on the blade. We know if was lost at Desklodge that night, so someone must have seen it/picked it up. There will be no recriminations (finders keepers is a valid rule in my book) we would just really like it back, please. It has very little monetary value (about £50) but huge sentimental value (and I'm really cross about it).
Please either PM me and we can arrange collection, or drop it off at Desklodge reception FAO Lindsey Lawman. If you brought guests, please do ask them if they have it.
Thank you xx
I suppose I have to get on with finding paid employment now...anyone hiring?! To procrastinate a little longer, I've written a final (for now) blog, with lots of lovely pictures of the sale day.

Secret Art: A Debrief | Basingstoke | Secret Art Basingstoke It's been a couple of weeks since the Sale Day, and I only now have the opportunity to write it up. OK, I've not exactly been rushed off my feet, but I have tak
How is it a week since the sale day already?!
Life for Secret Art has not stopped since then...we've been on the front page of The Gazette, announced the People's Choice Award winner, announced the winners of the Secret Art Kids competition AND we've made another £525 from online sales!
We've got 63 postcards left, plus some 'little something extra' pieces. I can't believe some of these haven't gone already! To grab your little piece of Secret Art, visit the 'available postcards' page of the website.

And the winners are...
Solana, aged 8, and Annabelle aged 6!
And our runners up are...
Ollie, aged 10, and Eadie, aged 10!
And in the vein of congratulations, we're announcing the winners of our Secret Art Kids competition next!
We had an amazing array of artwork, and our judges (Rachel and Fatima from THAT Gallery) found it really hard to agree on a winner. So hard, in fact that we have two winners, and two runners up...watch this space!
We have a winner! Congratulations to Beanie-Ffion Rahwangi for winning The Topiary Salon People's Choice Award! Your beautiful image of mother and baby will be our charity Christmas card for 2018!
Wowee, you guys have been voting today! Looks like the beautiful breastfeeding mama with the galactic backdrop is in the lead with over 100 votes. With less than an hour and a half to go, which one will be our Christmas card for 2018?

FUNDRAISING TOTAL - £8236.99!!!
And that's not even our final figure, because artwork is still being sold - we sold 10 today, in fact. So if you've still not got your postcard (seriously, where have you been?) get to Proteus 10-5 Monday to Friday with £20 cash and get one. There are still some beauties to be owned (some be celebrities!)
Your enthusiasm and generosity has ensured that hundreds of mothers and their babies in Basingstoke will be professionally, respectfully and gently supported at a time when they need it the most. Go to bed tonight knowing YOU DID THAT. You're awesome, all of you.
I want to tell you a little story...
At 8am this morning, outside Proteus Creation Space, a woman arrived to begin the queue for the Secret Art Basingstoke sale . She stood on her own, quietly waiting for the doors to open at 10am. When they did, she walked purposefully up to three postcards, paid for them in cash, and left. Once outside the gallery she sat down and excitedly tore open the envelope containing her artist's biography. Reading the short script inside, she smiled broadly, proudly gazing at her three already treasured items.
This woman is Su. Su travelled from Austria to visit Secret Art Basingstoke because she knew Ben Whishaw was a secret artist. Su is a bit of a fan. When the gallery went live on the website 48 hours ago, Su trawled through 240 pieces of art. When she came upon a triptych of polaroids, gaffa taped to their postcard mounts, she knew instantly who the artist was. Because she recognised the subject in one of them. The subject was Ben Whishaw. Or to be more precise, Ben's feet. She recognised HIS FEET.
I love Su and all she stands for. Viva Secret Art Basingstoke!
Ok gang, it's all a bit quiet here, so we're gonna shut up shop at 2pm. If you still want to grab a piece, head on down. But don't worry if you can't, the collection will remain in the space and available to buy for the next two weeks. After that, you'll be able to buy online. Thanks so much to everyone who came...you are all AWESOME!
Wow!! Lots of pieces sold but lots still here to buy.
Some very happy art purchasers
Sale Day!
We're up!
I CHALLENGE YOU!
Those of you who are lucky enough to bag a postcard today will receive an envelope. Inside that envelope is a little bit of information about your artist. Then go digitally forth (facebook/twitter/insta etc), find your artist and share a selfie of you and your card. They'd love to know that their donation has found its forever home! Don't forget
Love this! Self portrait, Hannah (7)?

IT'S SALE DAY TOMORROW!
Any Doctors/Emmerdale/Coronation Street fans out there?
So many gorgeous triptychs on display...dare you split them up, or will you buy all three??
Check out our 'Little Something Extra' collection. Available to purchase on Saturday and online. Some absolute BEAUTS.
Some artists contributed artwork we couldn't use in the exhibition. Perhaps it was too big, or signed on the front, or a not-quite-original piece. However, I think you'll agree they're all stunning - and we'd love for you to give them a home!

What’s the big secret?
Taking place between 23rd July and 4th August 2018, Secret Art Basingstoke is an exhibition of hundreds of postcard-sized original works of art donated by artists, celebrities, dignitaries, graduates and illustrators. With no brief in medium or subject, the collection promises to be an eclectic mix of small but perfectly formed paintings, drawings and photographs.
The two week exhibition will be split across four spaces in Basingstoke town centre; THAT Gallery, The Creation Space, The Discovery Centre and The Willis Museum & Sainsbury Gallery. The entire collection will then reunite at The Creation Space on Saturday 4th August, where every single postcard will be on sale for the affordable price of £20 each.
And the secret? The identity of the artist - you'll only know who created your miniature masterpiece once you've bought it.
For a chance to get a sneak peak at the entire collection before everyone else, we’re holding a launch night on 19th July at Desklodge. The evening will include live music, art demonstrations and a charity auction. Tickets will be available soon (we’ll let you know!)
