Spencer High School Science
The science department at Spencer High School is amazing! This page is dedicated to showcase the many talents of Spencer High School students. Enjoy!
It is also a place to stay updated on what is going on in classes each week and ask questions.
Hanging out with these cool kids at the New Zoo today. ๐๐ฆ
Congratulations to the winners of March Mammal Madness 2024!
The Science Club is selling Earth Day shirts again this year. Youth and adult sizes are available in each design and they are $14. The order deadline is Wednesday, February 14. Message this page or contact Ms. Roehrborn at the High School with questions or order.
Science Club members and Astronomy students visited Barlow Planetarium and Weis Earth Science Museum at UW-Oshkosh today. This is the first time we have gone there and both presentations were excellent. ๐ญโฐ๏ธ๐

Estimating population sizes in Bio 2 today
Owl pellets in Bio 2 today. ๐ฆ
The wound healing lab is one of my favorites in the Anatomy class.
The Physics students are taking advantage of the nice weather. We ventured outside to gather data to work on our graphing and analysis skills.
Astronomy students did the ever-popular Oreo moon phase activity in class this morning. ๐
Students in Physical Science are working through stations to sharpen data analysis and graphing skills.
We are starting banana autopsies to help learn directional terms in Body Structure and Function today.
We started the Physics Olympics today. Mrs. Roehrborn's activity involved building bridges with marshmallows, spaghetti noodles, and toothpicks. The bridges will be judged on their masses and how much mass they can support. The results are coming soon!
Despite the chilly temps, we managed to find some animals at the zoo.
The bird beak simulation is always a fan favorite during our evolution unit in Bio 2.

Another great year of battles is coming up...
the DIVISIONS:
MAMMAL COLLECTIVES: The English language has a quirk of creating collective noun terms for groups of animals. Some of these date back 500+ years, such as Pride of Lion(esses) or are more recent like an Embarrassment of Pandas. Importantly, some of these terms are applied to species that aren't typical in social groups, so MMM players will have to research whether collectives are likely to work together or turn on each other.
WILD NORTH AMERICA: celebrate protecting & stewarding ecosystems & taxa in a Division of WILD North America, featuring a combatant from a specific population in National Parks, Conservation Areas, National Forests, & more!
QUEENS OF THE SKY & SEA: One downside of the MMM game universe that showcases an individual most-adapted for combat, is that among mammals, that is more often the male of the species. While fatherly care is found among many mammal species, male-male contest competition has commonly selected for elaborate weaponry in males among mammals. BUT across the animal kingdom, selection has favored many species where the female is bigger, badder, faster, or more knowledgeable. This Division features amazing ladies from across the Animal Kingdom! (Go orca!)
WHY NOT BOTH?! A wild selection of wonderful taxa that have weirdo combinations of adaptations! You may say "Tusks or Antlers? The Muntjac says "Why not both?" You may say "Milk or Eggs?" The Echidna says "Why not both?" You may say "Scales or Fur?" The Pangolin says "Why not both?"
Bracket with the full line-up of combatants drops to the Public Feb 23rd!
