As I sail through another trip round the sun and I reflect on my past year I canβt help but think about identity.
For a while I thought I had lost mine.. but now I realize we do not need attachments to be whole.
π¦
Letβs get comfortable with the idea of self without attachments.
I am I.
I am.
I.
π
We are not a job. We are not our parents. We are not a car, or house, or a fabulous wardrobe.
We are not our friends or acquaintances.
π
Who are you without those things?
Who would you be friends with if they had none of those things?
π±
Wear your soul inside out.
πππ»π
Happy birthday daddio, the beginning and the reason. β¨
Without the experience of losing you I would not be here.
I am grateful for the motion of events that were set by the unluckiness of being in Thailand during the 2004 tsunami. I am grateful to have been witness to tragedy as it meant I gained perspective. I am grateful for the most painful and hardest of times that followed.
All of it led me here, with a keen interest in trauma, grief and resilience. Today it also happens that I start a course. π¦π
And thankfully these motion of events also led me to . I canβt believe itβs been 2 years since we tied the knot. Grateful to be doing life together. Absolutely love you to the ends of the universe (even if you donβt believe in it)β€οΈπ«
When I talk to people about stopping djing, most of them say βbut youβre not really giving up rightβ¦ youβll be backβ some have asked me to play in a few months, next year even. Itβs a hard no. There are many reasons why I have stopped - wanting to concentrate on a psychology and healing modalities, wanting to spend more time with family and friends, suddenly realizing I was aspiring to a vampiric life spent at airports and random clubs with people you donβt knowβ¦ but ultimately I truly fell out of love with the scene and everything that goes with it. It was a hard realization, especially as djing full time is a lot of peoples dream job. I put what I felt into words. π
Itβs never too late to change your mind.
Dreams can change and so can people. Iβll be posting more musings about change soon. But for now I am happy to be pages in to my new chapter π¦π
Totally ecstatic to be on my way to today π³π if youβre there come find me Saturday night at 10pm ππ

DJING X THE EGO ππΌ
Looking at the crowd, I subconsciously count how many hands are in the air. How many smiles, closed eyes or faces lost to enjoyment, nodding and signaling at me. If there are lots, I feel confident, happy, fulfilled, proud. A good set means I get lost in this feeling, high off others enjoyment of what I am playing them. On a worse night, I notice everyone who leaves - to the bar or bathroom most likely, but βthis song isnβt good enoughβ goes through my mind - or βI am not good enough to make them stayβ. My feelings of self worth ebb and flow over the course of my set, intrinsically tied to every person in that room, every hand, whoop, cheer, whistle, feeding my ego.
A good set means a full ego, a bad set, a shattered one.
DJing IS ego. Look at me, come see me play, follow me, listen to my mixes, like my pictures. I no longer want my self worth to be defined by the amount of whistles I hear during a song I played, but didnβt make.
There is a lot I loved about playing music to people, but all of it feeds the ego. And I am in the process of dismantling mine.
Disclaimer: This is my own experience and may not apply to all DJs. Also not here to judge πππ

π From September I will no longer be taking DJ bookings. I will be consciously stepping away from DJing and into another calling. I no longer feel this industry is aligned to my souls purpose and it is making me unhappy.
π¦
I have loved every moment up till now, and I will cherish the best 20s a person could ever hope for. Iβve met some amazing people, had some crazy times, and learnt a lot. I wish only the best for everyone and hats off to you for following your own paths.
π
The last 2 years has given me space to think about what it is I want to offer the world, and due to past experiences with trauma and grief, I would love to explore this avenue.

Hopefully youβll stay with me on my next chapter learning as much as I can on healing techniques, the mind, trauma, grief, health and happiness. Lord knows the world needs it right now!

Our Story
Lucid started her life in a Ghurka camp in Singapore and would regularly attend Nepalese fetes and dances. This early introduction to world music has stayed with her. Her Father was a Party DJ, aptly named βRhythm Methodβ and Mother a self styled Disco Queen. Music was an important part of life from an early age. This start abroad has heavily influenced Lucids style, often journeying through Middle Eastern disco to acidic African groove. She has played in London, Manchester, Leeds, Berlin, Croatia, Turkey, Greece and even Uganda. Spotted by Londonβs party heavy weights Percolate in early 2016, they gave her a slot on their stage at Secret Garden Party festival and since then she has played with John Morales, Dan Shake, Late Nite Tuff Guy, A Guy Called Gerald, Cinnamon, Rune LindbΓ¦k, PBR street gang, Mark E, the Revenge, OR:LA, Dan Beaumont, Maxxi Sound System, Rayko, DEBONAIR, San Soda, The Reflex, Nadia Ksaiba, Anthony Naples to name a few. She has kept audiences wanting more at parties like Gottwood, Secret Garden Party, festival no 6, Love International, Percolate, Future Boogie, Locomotive and the Good life, and venues like Spiritland, The Lion and Lamb, The Yard, Dalston Superstore, Oslo, NTs bar, Dreamland Margate and Leeds Courtyard. Not content with just showing prowess for the dance floor, Lucid also has a growing number tune in to listen to her monthly radio show on Balamii Radio. Lucid has created mixes for Data Transmission, Slothboogie and Rinse FM. She has recently been recruited by dance music stalwarts Hedkandi as a DJ and ambassador to help with their rebrand. As Slothboogie said in her guest mix intro βA definite one to keep your eyes and ears open forβ. Find her regularly at venues across East London.
