Really felt like playing with the cards today... here’s what came up for you! 😉 A friendly reminder to fill your cup, set healthy boundaries, and to *not* mistake other people’s energy for your own. 💗 Nurture yourself by spending time in nature if possible, or at the very least, spending quiet time contemplating your natural happy place (the beach, the forest, the mountains)... 🧚♂️ From Rebecca Campbell’s “Work Your Light” cards.

Time for another shop update! This week: more , , and made it to the ! ❤️ Head on over and check it out, scatter some hearts around, and maybe even find the perfect little something! 😊 https://www.etsy.com/shop/KateWares
This summer, I started making my first ever Granny Squares! Being me, I gave them a bit of a nature twist and crocheted them more like colourful flowers. ☺️ This fall, I turned the squares into these adorable pillows!!! You can check them (and my process) out on this blog post if you're interested. I started with 7 to sell... and 4 have already been claimed! I wonder if the other 3 will get snatched up before they even make it to the Etsy shop? 🤞 http://www.katewares.com/2021/10/23/pillow-licious/
Woot! New and pretty stuff and things are waiting just for you! 😊
As I navigate the whole rebuilding my Etsy shop from scratch thing (wow, has it ever changed since I first opened almost a decade ago), I am laying the groundwork to offer additional and more frequent listings for you!
Plus, with Christmas just around the corner, you still have time to get your custom request in for that perfect gift !
Come check it out. https://www.etsy.com/shop/KateWares 💗
So, one of my dreams has always been to establish a creative studio where people can get together and test out a new medium or simply have the freedom to create something original without having to invest hundreds of dollars in supplies and lessons and such. With all of the recent migrations online, it's the perfect time to move that dream forward with virtual classes.
My question for y'all is... what of the many things that I creatively play with would YOU like to learn how to do? Would you like some photography pointers for family snapshots... product advertising... selfies? A lesson in crochet... knitting... embroidery... or simple sewing? What about nature drawing, or painting with acrylics... watercolours... alcohol inks? Or, heck... even how to better use oracle cards and crystals OR how to identify common plants and wildlife in North America? (Gardening will have to wait a few months, I'm afraid.)
I have SO much knowledge that I would love to share, I just don't know which direction to start with first. Please sound off in the comment section below! 😊
Well... I've decided to give Etsy another go. I've been avoiding it because of all the fees (Etsy itself, PayPal, Canada Post)... but I have also not been rushing out to book any craft fairs yet again this year. 🤔
So, I've raised my prices to account for the fees. Plus, I highly suggest people contact me directly to find the least expensive shipping/delivery option. And maybe, just maybe, I can get my stuff in front of a few more eyes this way. 🤷♀️ We shall see.
At any rate... If you see something you like, as always, let me know and we'll work something out just for you!!! 😉 https://www.etsy.com/shop/KateWares
Went to do the this morning... in my . 🙄 Totally frustrating without ANY ! 😖 So... I just threw on one of my , shoved my phone, keys, wallet, mask, and glasses into the ample front... and was on my way, easy-peasy. 😊 I love it when the things I make actually have both . 💗 (You can DM me if you are interested in getting one of these styled aprons for yourself. Lots of colours to choose from.) 😉
I signed up for an online event tomorrow morning, and I’m supposed to bring a of some kind...
I remembered that I had a cool butterfly that the printers had overblown (it was supposed to be gauzy and ethereal 🤦🏻♀️) and that I had been meaning to try and salvage...
This afternoon I it to lighten it up, then it for fun. Finally, I channeled my inner “Katie Daisy” (artist) and came up with a fun (though I totally need to practice my 😜)...
A gentle reminder to with whatever may throw at you. 💗
It has occurred to me that sometimes I post on my private account, sometimes I post on IG, and sometimes I post here - with occasional overlap. So I decided to do an "odds'n'ends" post on my blog, to try and round up all the things that may have fallen through the cracks over the past year or so. ;) If you're at all interested, you can head over to the blog. http://www.katewares.com/2021/05/10/oddsnends/
Odds’n’Ends – KateWares Odds’n’Ends Odds’n’Ends May 10, 2021 Sometimes I make things and either forget to post about them, or get too busy doing other things to post about them. 😉 Especially during Covid times! That’s life, what can you do? Well… you create a “catch all” post for posterity, of course. .....
Here is the full set of the second round of my recent . 😉 (with occasional watercolour additions) 🎨 8”x10” on canvas board, $20 each+shipping 🌸 Message me if interested. SO much fun to create and sure to brighten up any room. 😊
With spring taking it’s sweet time... I did another with one of the new backgrounds. 🌸 Pretty happy with the blending of shades in the different petals. 💗 😊 8”x10” canvas board with acrylics, watercolours $20+shipping
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to remind y’all about my awesome Japanese inspired utility aprons. 🌸
They’re perfect for use during everything from art projects, to pottering around the house and garden... or even for keeping your clothes clean while you wash up the dishes right before your Zoom meeting. 😉
I’ve been collecting a bit of fabric as the new colours come out, so I have a nice assortment of colours to choose from right now. As I only have one green linen apron made right now... they are currently made-to-order. 🧵 $40 each (or $25 for the upcycled patterned cotton aprons).
So, whether you are looking for something pretty *and* functional for yourself or for your mom, just message me and I’ll get you covered! (Did I mention all the pockets?!) 😊
So... all of this experimenting with patterns using my Posca pens, acrylic paints, and magazine cutouts lately had me wanting to try collage again... except using my beautiful scrapbook papers this time. My first attempt: a teacup collage with a kick! If you'd like to read more about it, please follow the link to my blog... and if you are interested in purchasing this particular piece, or one similar, you can do the same or message me. ;) Cheers!!! http://www.katewares.com/2021/04/15/grab-yourself-a-cuppa/
Many years ago, I worked at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. At first, my part-time duties included sitting at the front desk answering questions and counting people on a clicker. 🙄
Things were pretty quiet back then, so I decided to keep busy by creating some colourful decorations for the classroom.
A few years later, I took these tribal-esque / pattern-focused images a step further with portraits of our pups, and even 3D papier-mâché versions of various animals.
Then, during the stay-at-home-mom days, I revisited the idea... and it evolved into sewing patterned paper!
This year, I got some Posca paint pens for my birthday and I tested them out creating patterns on some painted backgrounds.
Next up: I’m thinking “scrapbook paper tea cup collage” ... with paint pen details? 🤷🏻♀️ Who knows where I’ll end up?
Just sewing some masks for another order and figured it was as good a time as any to repost fabric choices, including some new prints. 😊 Stay safe, y’all.
This was my adult re-introduction to embroidery (my first work was done as a child). I completed this piece 6... (turns out it was 9!)... years ago and *finally* stretched and framed it today! Woo-hoo!!! Better late than never. 😉
This morning, our furry friend Baxter got his Zen on, with a little support from a KateWares embroidery piece. Thanks for the reminder to pull out my linen and threads and get stitching, Sir Doggo!
If you or someone you know needs a smile - or a kick in the pants reminder, I can get something going for you. Plus, it’s never too early to start preparing for Christmas. 😬 Here’s what I have in stock right now... but, as always, I make to order as well. Message me if interested.
Six months ago, I made my family some face masks. Which led to making more masks for close friends and family. Which in turn led to making even more masks for anybody on my FB friends list that asked. ;) I'm now opening up the offer to people I may not know in person...
Personally, I think reusable cotton masks are more comfortable, stylish, and better for the environment than disposables. Made with 100% cotton fabric (outer layer is woven, inner layer is jersey knit), a strip of tin at the nose and a sewn dart at the chin (for a better seal around the face), and jersey ties (to prevent ear fatigue - though adjustable ear elastics are available upon request), they are a easy to wear and easy to care for.
Masks are made-to-order - that means you get to pick your design(s). To date, there are over 100 fabrics to choose from (although, some are in limited quantities, so first come, first served). They are all double washed and double stitched. Because of the design, "one size fits most"... although I have made smaller masks for smaller faced adults and kids, and some special stylized masks (striped, with a beard pouch, etc.)
If you are interested in fabric masks to update your face wardrobe and be kinder to the environment, message me and we can discuss options. Stay safe, y'all. =)
Tah-dah!!! Scavenged chair plus spray paint... purchased letters plus old plank... perfectly sized pot plus pink mums... My favourite new garden feature! 💗
Can you guess what I’m making? (Hint: it’s something from one of my most saved “Pinterest” photos...)
Earlier this week, I went fabric shopping. Found a cute panel that I used to alter a couple of things. (I think I’m still 8yo at heart...) 🦊 It got me thinking about a jacket I spent days stitching, way back in my 20s. It has some sad memories associated with it for me, so I never wear it anymore. But it should totally be worn... it’s like clothing art!!! Anyone interested? 😊
Sensational Solstice to you and yours! :) (artwork by Amanda Clark)
Just finished a custom order for kids aprons... Gotta say... they’re pretty darn cute!!! 😉
The hugest of thank yous to everyone who came by the sale this weekend!!! 💗 Not only did I have the pleasure of meeting several wonderful and kindred spirits, but I also sold enough wares to make a $50 donation to CPAWS (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society) from the profits. 😍 Nature inspires me and my work on a daily basis, so I am thrilled to be able to give back in any way I can. 🍃
Remember: if you couldn’t make the sale this past weekend, you can *always* purchase items directly from me - just message me and we can figure something out! 🐙
Now... I must get to work on all the requests made before and at the sale! 👍🏻👍🏻 I will contact y’all when your custom works are done and ready for pick up/delivery. Happy Monday! 😊
My table is in the smaller room near the front of the centre, NOT the gym, FIY... 😉 Day 1 was a success! I wonder how many Naughty Stitches I can crank out before 10am tomorrow... 😜
Today’s the big day! Well... tomorrow too, but who’s counting? 😉 Come on by for a visit an to check out all the wonderful works! 😊
Days 11+12: Oh, yeah... I am also a photography lover. ;) With images available in 8x8 or 8.5x11 frames, on magnets (which can be affixed to paper and sent as a card that keeps on giving), or even on canvas... I'm sure you can find something that uplifts you and brightens your day. =)
Day 10: Fabric Flowers. When you want a pop of colour and fun. ;) Comes with both an aligator clip or a safety pin for attaching to a variety of things.
