Overview

The Arab Physical Society is organizing the International Conference on Laser Physics, Photonics, and Applications in collaboration with the University of South Valley-Hurgada branch. The conference's goal is to bring together leading scientists and research scholars from around the world to exchange and share their knowledge, experience, and research findings on the various aspects of lasers, photonics and their applications. The conference will concentrate on femtosecond laser and beyond on October 12, the day that the 1999 Nobel Prize announcement honoring Dr. Zewail was made public.

Pigmented lesions and tattoos

Melanin-specific, high energy, QS laser systems can successfully lighten or eradicate a variety of pigmented lesions. Pigmented lesions that are treatable include freckles and birthmarks including some congenital melanocytic naevi, blue naevi, naevi of Ota/Ito and Becker naevi

Vascular lesions

Lasers have been used successfully to treat a variety of vascular lesions including superficial vascular malformations (port-wine stains), facial telangiectases, haemangiomas, pyogenic granulomas, Kaposi sarcoma and poikiloderma of Civatte. Lasers that have been used to treat these conditions include argon, APTD, KTP, krypton, copper vapour, copper bromide, pulsed dye lasers and Nd:YAG. Argon (CW) causes a high degree of non-specific thermal injury and scarring and is now largely replaced by yellow-light quasi-CW and pulsed laser therapies.

Oncology

Lasers are currently being safely used for the treatment of cancers arising in various organ systems. In neurosurgery for example, laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is a preferred treatment option for patients who are not ideal surgical candidates .Since their introduction to neurosurgery, lasers have become increasingly safe to use and have been successfully applied for the treatment of unresectable gliomas as well as hard and hemorrhagic tumors such as meniniomas, tumors of the deep skull base, or tumors deep in the ventricles

Aesthetic and reconstructive surgery

The unique ability of lasers to target specific structures and layers of tissue makes them a powerful tool in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Laser resurfacing has been a major tool used for anti-aging treatment in recent medicine, as the induction of new collagen formation is known to lessen the effects of photoaging (30). Original skin resurfacing techniques involved using ablative CO2 and Er:YAG laser systems to target a specific portion of the dermis
