Finding balance is not always the easiest thing, and it’s actually an ongoing process. It’s not like you become balanced and you’re done forever (how nice would that be👀). It’s more of a constant adjusting, and it requires a little effort constantly. Sometimes, a lot. I’ve definitely been off balance lately, but like everything, that’s temporary as long as there’s still effort made to get back to the center :) this week, that effort was doing my yoga and meditation again BEFORE starting work (instead of later in the day) and just working a few more hours each day. Both were helpful-Meditating before starting the day just helps with being more calm and focused; and more work in the week meant time for a hike today 😊 the only thing to remember I think is that what works one week to center you again does not necessarily work the next one. it’s like when you’re off balance to the left a bit, you need to move a different muscles as when you’re off to the front or back. It’s all trial and error; and from time to time you fall, and that’s ok.

Day 1 in Singapore Quarantine. I am going to try and create some sort of a routine for the next two weeks, and yoga first thing in the morning, as I am used to doing will 100% be part of it 🧘🏻‍♀️ Kinda curious about how this being locked in thing will play out for me since I haven't had to really quarantine like this before. Will keep y'all posted on how this is going 🙃

Hi hi :) Here's a quick preview of a short energizing flow I filmed a few weeks ago. If you wanna practice, you can find the whole flow on youtube (link in bio or below).

morning yoga flow today 🙃 no glitter, just some movement, and some music 🙏🏻

24/06/2020

Hi people :) I made this flow a while ago but am getting around to sharing it on here just now. You can find the whole practice on youtube, this is IGTV shows just the first 8 minutes of it for you to check out.
🧘🏻‍♀️
The link to the practice is in my bio, or you can copy this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgIltNNySfA
This is a flow for all levels. The focus is not so much on doing tons of poses, but on your intention and your mindset as you practice. In this practice, you will focus on being kind, gentle, and understanding towards yourself. Not pushing too hard, not working too little. Being where you are, and being ok with that. A good practice for those who tend to put a little too much pressure on themselves. Namasté y'all :)

If you want to get your students warmed up quickly (and a little angry at you, too) Just have them do a bunch of chair poses 😈They'll thank you later. Maybe.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ever tried to hold a block in your hands against the back of your head in ? I've been taking some more Iyengar classes online and it's just so nice to see how you can use props to support your body in all kinds of postures to get the benefits of them. One thing we did was holing a block in and I've never felt that stable upside down before. So yeah, I really recommend looking a little to other yoga styles some times, because they all have their place in your practice and can add value to it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Something to consider 🙃 turns out the issue with deeper backends wasn't my back 😅 I used to blame my spinous processes (thanks to my teacher J. Crandell I know that I have those) when in fact my quads and some part of my upper body were just too tight to stretch enough for the backbends to go any deeper. Glad to have worked that out 🎉because these poses feel about 200% better now 😍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

No clue why we call this frog pose, but anyway, nice to stretch the oftentimes super tight quads. Just be mindful with your knees, you need them more for walking than you do for doing intense yoga poses. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Yes, we're here to practice yoga asana. But that's only one part of the practice. Contemplation is another key component (at least for me), and I don't think the physical practice alone can have as much of an impact on one's life without looking at the wisdom that comes with this beautiful tradition. Off the mat, through the heart, to the soul :) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

How are twists good for digestion? No, you're not squeezing out anything really, but when you release your twist a rush of fresh blood will flow through your abdominal region, including your digestive organs. Fresh blood flow = fresh oxygen and nutrients. Hence, by increasing blood flow to the digestive organs, twisting supports them in their ability to function. Mystery solved. You’re welcome 🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Simple but effective pose for strength and balance. If you bring the knee towards the elbow (so both meet underneath you), it becomes a nice core-strengthening and stabilizing pose, too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Side planks all day. I love this pose since it combines strength with balance nicely. it's also a great pose to develop lateral core strength. If you're like me and love side stretches of all kinds, moving your arm over your head and then back in coordination with the breath can be a very nice way to bring your breath into the practice of this pose :) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

is so fun and often times I use it to transition from the left to the right side when I (or my shoulders, wrists, and arms) are tired of the five-thousandths vinyasa. Also, it's a super good prep pose for prasarita padottanasana (wide-legged standing forward fold) in my experience. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Locust pose - great to practuce not only for the but also for back-body strength. A super good pose to integrate into any flow you practice (e.g. plank - chaturanga - locust - down dog) so balance out your practice and strengthen your back. With the hands clasped behind you it's also a great shoulder and front of body opener and a nice antidote to all the sitting and staring at screens :) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Do you believe that the people you interact, work, and/or live with are actually doing the best they can, or do you keep thinking to yourself "She could/should have done this so much better"? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Think about someone you were frustrated with recently because of whatever they did or didn' t do. How did you judge their actions and their behavior? Did you think "oh, this wasn't a great move, but he/she did his/her best and didn't know any better"? Or did you just think of how frustrating this 'suboptimal' behavior was, and that they ought to act differently, and wondered what it would take to finally make them 'get it'? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am asking because I've noticed recently that by simply assuming that people around me are, in fact, trying their best I've been able to live somewhat lighter and be more open, compassionate, and well, also be more helpful to people. Instead of getting impatient and frustrated, this approach can motivate us to think of ways to support, rather than correct or criticize those we are engaging with. Entertaining the idea that if they knew better, they would do better, but they don't so this must be what they believe is the best way' has been quite helpful both in personal relationships, but also considering what is going on on the planet concerning the C-word. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Welcome to Ways to Yoga 🎉

Welcome Yoga Friends! 🤸🏻‍♀️

On this site I’m sharing content about yoga and provide you with information on my classes, workshops, and course offerings. 😊

My current teaching focus lies on Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga and Mediation. Next to a yogi, I am also an organizational psychologist, and I am very excited about the opportunity to connect these two fields in various ways on the mat, in workshops, and in private class settings.

Making Yoga and all its benefits accessible to as many people as possible is what I would like to achieve through my work. That’s why I called this site ‘Ways to Yoga’. I am 100% convinced that each and every person on this planet - no matter what their background is - can find a way to yoga to benefit from one of the many forms of this amazing practice and philosophy. It is only a question of finding the right way and putting the teachings into a context that makes sense for you. Trust me, you don’t have to be a world-class gymnast, athlete, or contortionist in order to have fun and feel great by doing yoga 🙃.
