Hi Everyone,
I apologize for the late notice but we will be having our monthly TIF meeting tomorrow at 10am via zoom.
We will have a guest speaker Jeffrey Godaire from Recite.me who will demo tools that can be used for increased accessibility with the library's website. They have worked with Poughkeepsie Public Library System and Ulster County Library Association.
After Jeffrey's presentation, Anthony Giansante from the John Jermain Library will discuss his work with hydroponics during his time at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library.
Then we will have our round table discussion talking about any questions you may have for the group.
I apologize again for the late notification.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the late notification. We have our next TIF (Technology Information Forum) meeting this Thursday at 10am. This meeting will cover 3 topics:
There has been some discussion about building a knowledge base for the Information Technicians. We will talk about that and what TIF can do to contribute to that effort.
We will discuss an opportunity that Chris has discovered working with an organization StemPunks that does virtual stemp programming as a collaborative effort from Brisbane Australia, having kids in our libraries here in New York do a project with kids from mostly Austrlia's Eastern Torre Straight Islands. We will discuss this feasibility.
Hybrid Programming: Has anyone done it, or is planning on doing it and what are your setups with hardware, software etc.

Please excuse the cross postings. Our next TIF meeting will be Thursday April 8th at 10am and will be virtual.
This month, Alison Mirabella from Longwood will discuss the various video conference software available. If you are doing Zoom or Google Meet, Alison will go over them along with some other platforms.
We will also circle back to some basics and talk about purchasing options for the Information Technology people in our facilities. Hardware, software and everything in between. We will talk about what is available for non-profits.
We will also talk about Chromebooks again. Powerwash seems to be the best way to reset circulating Chromebooks, but if someone else has another way of reseting that breed of device, lets have a chat about it! Also, since we are talking about circulating items, lets have a discussion about sanitizing the physical devices when they are returned.
We welcome our friends and colleagues from Nassau County to join us as we want to continue our collaboration!
Spread the word about the CATS/TIF Google Group, which is a forum that has lively discussions with questions and information for all of us doing tech work in libraries. Get in touch with Chris from Sachem for more information.

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!!
We are starting up the TIF meetings again. They will be the second Thursday of every month with the exception of July and August. We have 4 meetings that will be co-hosted by NCLA's Tech Committee, but our colleagues in Nassau are invited to all of our meetings. The times will vary based on whether we are co-hosting with Nassau or hosting our own. Here is the schedule:
February 11 at 10am
March 11 at 2pm (Joint moderation with NCLA’s Computer and Tech Committee)
April 8 at 10am
May 13 at 2pm (Joint moderation with NCLA’s Computer and Tech Committee)
June 10 at 10am
July (summer break)
August (summer break)
September 9 at 2pm (Joint moderation with NCLA’s Computer and Tech Committee)
October 14 at 10am
November 18 (second Thursday is Veterans Day) at 2pm (November 4th is NYLA Annual Conf) (Joint moderation with NCLA’s Computer and Tech Committee)
December CATS/TIF Annual Meeting date and time TBA
For this month our meeting will be Thursday February 11th at 10am.
This month we are going to have the following topics for discussion:
Lending policies for Technology/Realia - since we are serving out patrons in different ways, one thing that seems to have evolved is lending devices for entertainment and work productivity. We will talk about what lending policies are being used, fines (if any) and what is going out
Screensavers and Desktop themes - this was a lively discussion on the Google Group posed by Russ at Quogue. We can throw this topic out to the floor to see how this is managed at your library.
Collecting online payments with curbside or remote payments for programming. How does your library do it? This is a new area for many of our payroll and accounting people and IT is in the middle with electronic payments. Let's have a discussion of how your library does it and what payments you accept from PayPal to Venmo or Zelle etc. Help libraries untangle this web.
Cloud Phone Systems. Plainedge brought this discussion up on the Google Group in December and we thought it could use some discussion. Thanks for the libraries that contributed to the discussion on the Google Group. Lets talk about what Cloud Phone Systems are and what providers we like.
Here is the zoom invite:
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86132115004?pwd=bFUvWWpjb2l5NlhNbjNYUm5pcHUwdz09
One day we will meet again in person for these meetings, but when we do, will still retain this virtual component because we can reach so many people at one time. Thanks for being part of the discussion and we will see everyone on Thursday the 11th at 10am.
Thanks!

Happy New Year to everyone!
We hope that everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season. This year we are continuing the TIF meetings virtually over Zoom. Chris DeCristofaro from the Sachem Public Library will continue to moderate the meetings and we are pleased to announce that Alison Mirabella from the Longwood Public Library has volunteered to co-moderate the meetings. In years past, we had held meetings on the first Wednesday morning of the month. This year we are shifting to the second Thursday of the month. We are also going to have jointly moderated meetings with NCLA’s Computer and Tech Committee in March, May, September and November. But this doesn’t mean that our Nassau colleagues cannot join the regularly scheduled SCLA/CATS/TIF meetings, in fact we encourage Nassau’s participation. All are welcome for all meetings, so please spread the word. We anticipate these meetings being approximately 1 hour in length, much like the meetings we had during our lockdowns in the Spring, with various topics to be discussed. If you have a topic to be covered, contact Chris.
Because the window for January has passed (and everyone is cleaning up from the holidays) we are pausing for January. Here is the schedule for this upcoming year.
February 11 at 10am
March 11 at 2pm (Joint moderation with NCLA’s Computer and Tech Committee)
April 8 at 10am
May 13 at 2pm (Joint moderation with NCLA’s Computer and Tech Committee)

December CATS/TIF Annual Meeting date and time TBA
We are also proud to announce that we have reached a milestone with the CATS/TIF Google group. We now have 100 subscribers to that group. If you are not part of that Google Group, please send an email to [email protected] and he will add you to the conversation. It is a great way to share our questions and discoveries with like minded information professionals and technology librarians. If you have a question, there is a great chance that one of us has already had the problem and found a solution, so please share your ideas, concerns, discoveries and frustrations. We are all here to help each other. We are in this together, whether on the border with Queens or the rocky shores of Orient or Montauk!
Thanks again for everyones’ collaboration, enthusiasm and participation.

Hi everyone,
Please consider joining us for a joint NCLA / SCLA Computers and Technology Meeting on Thursday, November 12th @ 10am.
The main topic on our Agenda for this meeting is “Closing Checklist.” Recently, NLS had shared a checklist template with member libraries. It can be an easy reference to follow when closing down your library, due to a COVID-19 outbreak near your location.
We will be sharing experiences from our last closing in March 2020 and trying to identify IT / Telecom system needs that have to be addressed when shutting down a building and migrating staff to a “Work From Home” model.
As is always the case, there will be an open Q&A portion at the close of the meeting where you can bounce your general IT questions off of our group.

Hi everyone,
I'm just sharing the Zoom details for our next NCLA Tech Meeting, which is Monday, July 6th @ 1pm.
As libraries are starting to reopen and provide services, there are two areas that many of us are still struggling to offer properly: MakerSpace and Public Computing.
This Meeting on Monday will be a way for us to share what we are currently doing, what we plan to do, and also brainstorm. The meeting is also a good "barometer read" for us to gauge community demand for these services.
Some questions to be posed during the meeting:
MakerSpaces
How does your library plan to support local "Makers" while buildings are closed or still have limited access?
How will you work with Makers to refine or troubleshoot designs? In-person? Phone calls? Video chat?
How will you do project "intake" during this time? Email? Web form? Phone calls?
Public Computing
How does your library plan to support the need for Internet Access while buildings are closed or still have limited access?
Will you be allowing people onsite? Into your Computing Areas?
How have you reconfigured your space to support this?
Safety precautions?
Does your library provide, or will it provide lendable solutions? Laptops? Tablets? Chromebooks? Hotspots? Bundles?
You are invited to a Zoom meeting.

HI everyone,
With our buildings gearing up with curbside and gearing up for opening to the public, the joint Nassau/Suffolk Tech meeting is taking a pause this week. Next Monday, July 6th at 1pm, we will be talking about how we can make our tech and makerspaces "touchless" to some degree. If you have ideas or would like to be part of the discussion, contact Chris DeCristofaro, James Hutter, Rocco Cassano or James Hartmann.
Good luck with all that is going one in your respective buildings, we are all getting there!
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share the link to our Zoom recording from June 15th. We covered quite a bit of ground, discussing current curbside solutions and discussing how to support remote work / work-from-home. Details are below.
Also, at this point, we are aiming to host another meeting on June 29th. If there are any topics you wish for us to discuss, please email myself, James Hartmann, or Chris DeCristofaro.
Thanks and stay safe!
