CAPE MAY — Fewer people have a cupholder full of quarters in their car these days than carry a smartphone, City Manager Paul Dietrich said in a recent interview. That makes a digital option to pay for parking more convenient for most visitors.
As parking charges took effect at the start of April, more areas of town will not have a meter or a kiosk, just a number for someone paying digitally.
Parking meters remain on the beach side of Beach Avenue, but visitors on the other side of that street will need to rely on the ParkMobile app this summer, and the kiosks on the Washington Street Mall will not be back this summer as Cape May joins the area communities moving away from physical parking payment options.
Cape May goes Digitial for some parking fees Some of Cape May’s parking spaces will be remote payment only this summer as Jersey Shore towns continue to move away from meters and kiosks and toward remote payment.
