If we learn to see things as they are and not as we would like them to be, we avoid many frustrations. If we do not confuse our hopes with our perceptions, the glass house of our values will remain lustrous. ("Like peeing against the wind" )

Happy Birthday, Anna Kendrick!
Wild eyes were another sign. It is something I have seldom seen โ the expression of an ecstatic state โ though much is foolishly written of them, as if they grew like Jerusalem artichokes along the road. The eyes are black, right enough, whatever their normal color is; they are black because their perception is condensed to a coal, because the touch and taste and perfume of the lover, the outcry of a dirty word, a welcome river, have been reduced in the heat of passion to a black ash, and this unburnt residue of oxidation, this calyx, replaces the pupil so it no longer receives but sends, and every hair is on end, though perhaps only outspread on a pillow, and the nostrils are flared, mouth agape, cheeks sucked so the whole face seems as squeezed as a juiced fruit; I know, for once Lou went into that wildness while we were absorbing one another, trying to kiss, not merely forcefully, not the skull of our skeleton, but the skull and all the bones on which the essential self is hung, kiss so the shape of the soul is stirred too, that's what is called the ultimate French, the furtherest f**k, when a c**k makes a concept cry out and climax; I know, for more than once, though not often, I shuddered into that other region, when a mouth drew me through its generosity into the realm of unravel, and every sensation lay extended as a lake, every tie was loosed, and the glue of things dissolved. I knew I wore the wild look then. The greatest gift you can give another human being is to let them warm you till, in passing beyond pleasure, your defenses fall, your ego surrenders, its structure melts, its towers topple, lies, fancies, vanities, blow away in no wind, and you return, not to the clay you came from โ the unfired vessel โ but to the original moment of inspiration, when you were the unabbreviated breath of God.
Having incredible this month! Thinking everyone is feeling a wonderful day too!

One of my most favourite Classical composers is the great . Impressive compositions... yes. Complex compositions.. yes. But when a world renown concert pianist takes the stage and owns it with brilliance, Rachmaninov's compositions explode with the grace and elegance of what true Classical music is all about.
In the up and coming September issue of Gramophone magazine, Yuja Wang takes centre stage in an interview with columnist Tim Parry.
's September 2023 cover artist is one of the most prominent stars of the piano. 's astonishing pianism and musicianship have long been dazzling the musical world. Parry catches up with the great pianist, who talks candidly about the pressure of giving live performances that will be captured for posterity, her love of Rachmaninov, and a life on stage.
For Wang, it's all in a days work!

Having amazing this year! Wishing you all is feeling a awesome week too!
Trains are great dirty smoky things," said Will. "You won't like it." Tessa was unmoved. "I won't know if I like it until I try it, will I?" "I've never swum naked in the Thames before, but I know I wouldn't like it." "But think how entertaining for sightseers," said Tessa, and she saw Jem duck his head to hide the quick flash of his grin.
Feeling wonderful this year! Hope everyone is doing a fantastic week too!
Let's check in on our Sandy Lane Carignane ๐ง
Located 50 miles east of San Francisco, the vineyards planted in Contra Costa County are own-rooted, head-trained, dry-farmed, and grown in pure sand!
Last year we harvested Sandy Lane August 17th. Right now, Sandy Lane looks to be about halfway through veraison, which means we're anticipating a late August harvest.
Stay tuned for more as we begin for the 2023 vintage!

The simple fact is that thereโs something appealing to Joe Public about bypassing the long-drawn-out legal machinations, especially if they think it came up with the wrong result in their opinion, and giving the baddies a good hiding.โ Sam nodded. โEven worse if the message gets out and crime starts to drop.โ โExactly whatโs giving me qualms. There are nineteen men hereโ โ now I pointed at the paper โ โwhoโre so incapacitated that even if they had evil written through their bones like Rothesay rock, thereโs bu**er all they could do about it for a while.โ I got up and retrieved the bottle and topped us both up to a level above homeopathic. โIโll do four more laps in the morning.โ Sam studied me over her specs. Then we sat silently, sipping away, thinking about the consequences of the vigilante action. Knowing that taking the law into your own hands was wrong. Unless it seemed to be the better option.

The Greeks had a word for this: apatheia. It's the kind of calm equanimity that comes with the absence of irrational or extreme emotions. Not the loss of feeling altogether, just the loss of the harmful, unhelpful kind. Don't let the negativity in, don't let those emotions even get started. Just say: No, thank you. I can't afford to panic.
This pecan crusted chicken is served with a killer honey dijon yogurt sauce that takes this easy weeknight meal over the top. Crunchy and packed with flavor, this is a dinner everyone will ask for over and over.

I can believe things that are true and things that aren't true and I can believe things where nobody knows if they're true or not. I can believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and the Beatles and Marilyn Monroe and Elvis and Mister Ed. Listen - I believe that people are perfectable, that knowledge is infinite, that the world is run by secret banking cartels and is visited by aliens on a regular basis, nice ones that look like wrinkled lemurs and bad ones who mutilate cattle and want our water and our women. I believe that the future sucks and I believe that the future rocks and I believe that one day White Buffalo Woman is going to come back and kick everyone's ass. I believe that all men are just overgrown boys with deep problems communicating and that the decline in good s*x in America is coincident with the decline in drive-in movie theaters from state to state. I believe that all politicians are unprincipled crooks and I still believe that they are better than the alternative. I believe that California is going to sink into the sea when the big one comes, while Florida is going to dissolve into madness and alligators and toxic waste. I believe that antibacterial soap is destroying our resistance to dirt and disease so that one day we'll all be wiped out by the common cold like martians in War of the Worlds. I believe that the greatest poets of the last century were Edith Sitwell and Don Marquis, that jade is dried dragon s***m, and that thousands of years ago in a former life I was a one-armed Siberian shaman. I believe that mankind's destiny lies in the stars. I believe that candy really did taste better when I was a kid, that it's aerodynamically impossible for a bumble bee to fly, that light is a wave and a particle, that there's a cat in a box somewhere who's alive and dead at the same time (although if they don't ever open the box to feed it it'll eventually just be two different kinds of dead), and that there are stars in the universe billions of years older than the universe itself. I believe in a personal god who cares about me and worries and oversees everything I do. I believe in an impersonal god who set the universe in motion and went off to hang with her girlfriends and doesn't even know that I'm alive. I believe in an empty and godless universe of causal chaos, background noise, and sheer blind luck. I believe that anyone who says s*x is overrated just hasn't done it properly. I believe that anyone who claims to know what's going on will lie about the little things too. I believe in absolute honesty and sensible social lies. I believe in a woman's right to choose, a baby's right to live, that while all human life is sacred there's nothing wrong with the death penalty if you can trust the legal system implicitly, and that no one but a moron would ever trust the legal system. I believe that life is a game, that life is a cruel joke, and that life is what happens when you're alive and that you might as well lie back and enjoy it.

Malachi scowled. "I don't remember the Clave inviting you into the Glass City, Magnus Bane.""They didn't," Magnus said. "Your wards are down.""Really?" the Consul's voice dripped sarcasm.
