"My fellow Texas Channel ISA Section members,
It is my honor to serve as section president in the upcoming year of 2024. Having been a member of TCS Board for three years, I have witnessed the significant value that ISA brings to Texas Channel, enhanced the understanding of instrument fundamentals, and been inspired by other professionals to explore opportunities and possibilities. Those values have always been shared among the TCS members and beyond TCS.
As a way of introducing myself, I began in oil and gas utility in 1996 as a green instrument engineer. Around the end of 2002, I was fortunate enough to quickly find a job as an Instrument technician after losing my job, I learned instrument applications at a coal-fired plant while measuring coal flow, coal fineness, checking dust levels in precipitators, and rodding the frozen stack flow measurement port in chilly winters, calibration, repairing, etc. The knowledge, standards, and webinars provided by ISA helped me not only solve day-to-day instrument issues, but also assisted me in passing my exams, or overcoming challenges to become a Professional Engineer, Functional Safety Expert, etc. Not enough words can express my gratitude to ISA for those free webinars presented by ISA members! In 2011 when I moved to Texas, I joined Texas Channel as an ISA member because of the benefits of the membership. In 2021, I decided it was time I gave back to society by joining the ISA Texas Channel Section’s board of directors as a volunteer. During my tenure on the board, I have come to realize that the Texas Channel Section is more than just a section; it is a special community of dedicated practitioners that truly work around instruments. It is also a group that encourages and inspires younger generations to be interested in engineering and instrumentation.
I look forward to collaborating with the Texas Channel Section to provide resources, events, and social activities to better the industry and each of its members, including myself.
Our goal for 2024 is to bring back in-person activities, but we will also work together to plan virtual events. Here are a few items to look forward to this year:
⦁ Texas Channel Instrumentation Showcase at the Pasadena Convention Center April 14
⦁ Golf Tournament
⦁ Co****le (Bags) Tournaments
⦁ Networking happy hours & Automation Steak Nights
⦁ Technical Presentations
ISA Connect is the best way to communicate, volunteer, obtain information on events, and other resources including reaching out to fellow members.
Please feel free to reach out to me anytime at [email protected]
As your 2024 ISA TCS President, I value and appreciate your feedback, and would very much like to hear any concerns you might have.
Let’s all work together to make 2024 a great and prosperous year for ISA!
Regards
Lianwei Zhong, P.E., CFSE, TUV FS Engineer
