She’s a Lowcountry Native, born in Savannah, Georgia. And let’s not forget her fur babies, Lucy Mae and Sammy! 🐾 Feel free to give them a pat when you spot them trotting around the store! In her spare time, you’ll catch her nurturing her garden or soaking up the serene beauty of the Lowcountry aboard her boat with loved ones.

Please pray for our classmate, Darryl Bryant, and his wife's family. Darryl's wife, Dr. Bonita Bell-Bryant, passed away.
The Atkinson County School System is profoundly saddened by the untimely passing of Dr. Bonita Bell-Bryant, the Willacoochee Elementary School Interim Principal and Atkinson County Middle School Assistant Principal. In the wake of this devastating news, we extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the Bryant and Bell families and the Atkinson County community. We mourn this heartbreaking loss with the United States Navy as Dr. Bryant was a current Navy Commander. Dr. Bryant was a 1992 Atkinson County High School graduate who had 26 years of educational experience in the Atkinson County School System. During those years she worked in many capacities, including: classroom teacher, instructional coach, and administrator.
Dr. Bryant was an exceptional educator, beloved leader, and mentor to many. Her unwavering dedication to her family, students, and community was truly inspiring as she touched countless lives. Her legacy will forever be etched in the halls of Willacoochee Elementary School, Atkinson County Middle School, and beyond.
May the Atkinson County community find strength, support, and unity during this difficult time. We know her legacy of hard work, guidance, and leadership will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Rest in peace, Dr. Bryant

Congratulations Stan Hughes!
Thursday night, the Atkinson County Board of Education hired Stan Hughes as a teacher and coach in the Atkinson County School System. Hughes will serve a teacher at Atkinson County High School, head varsity baseball coach, and as an assistant football coach. Hughes previously served as a teacher at Coffee Middle School and head softball coach for the Lady Trojans' program. During his career with the Lady Trojans, Hughes was 128-86 overall with a 40-20 record in region play. His teams made the playoffs every year he was head coach. “I’d like to thank the people of Atkinson County for the opportunity to continue in education and coach on the varsity level. To say that I’m excited for the opportunity to be the head baseball coach and a football coach at Atkinson County would be an understatement. I’d like to thank the superintendent, administration, athletic director, and the school board for this opportunity,” stated Coach Hughes.
In 2025, we have been out of high school for 40 years. It is hard to believe and I think we need to plan an awesome high school graduation so I am putting feelers out now for what you all would like to do. A Cruise? A destination? Or something here in Douglas? Let me hear your ideas? Janet Cole Phelps (912)501-0971.
