Powerful photo. ❤❤❤
I’ve waited to post this because frankly so many folks have impressions & stories with the great David Sanborn that I wanted to read. Not the least of which came from my Marcus Miller It was so lovely & meaningful.
But this pic captures a career-defining moment for me personally that I’ll never forget.
David once told me years ago that “sound is everything.” It impacted me deeply because my reference point was him and the great Arnett Cobb. And of course, our common influence, the awesome Hank Crawford from right here in Memphis.
There’s a lot more. But suffice to say that there will never be another David Sanborn. I’m grateful to have called him not just mentor, but friend. I wrote this song WALTZ FOR DAVID in his honor. 🙏🏾
On now! The celebration is underway! Enjoy the show!
This Memorial Day weekend, Watercolors honors one of the most influential sax players of our time featuring timeless music and rare live performances from David Sanborn all weekend long!
Two day schedule:
Sunday, May 26: At 3pmET, hear a classic 2008 SiriusXM performance recorded in front of a live audience followed by “Night Music” with David Sanborn at 6pmET, recreating the vibe of his music-variety show of the same name and featuring a who’s who of talent, including the late Joe Sample.
Monday, May 27: Beginning at Noon Eastern, hear David Sanborn together with bassist Marcus Miller celebrate their lifelong friendship through music, followed by a solo performance from David recorded aboard The Smooth Jazz Cruise 2016. And we saved the best for last, David Sanborn, Bob James and Marcus Miller, for the very first time perform the songs from their Grammy winning and platinum selling 1986 album, Double Vision.
Ok, best pop-song-SAX-solo? What is your favorite? There are so many, but this one is up there! Nice, Gerald Albright Music!!
